  • Title says it all.
I've been wanting a 3D printer to supplement my traditional workshop tools, for awhile.
    I finally got one.
Obviously, I needed to test the quality of 3D printed gym stuff.

Awesome man, looks like a lot of fun stuff you can do. You may have just found one of my Christmas gifts for my kids. Saw they have some kid versions of these.

I remember a buddy of mine getting a 3d printer over 10 years ago. At the time, they were very expensive and pretty crude. Today, though, the best 3d printers are getting pretty cheap, and the cheapest ones are getting pretty good. So much free downloadable stuff, too.

Was that infill on the first one going the wrong way? Looked like diamond shapes on the side profile. So weight is collapsing the tubes.
(could be completely wrong never used one but I have one arriving later this week)

It was a grid style infill, but the part is printed on its side, so that is the direction of the grid. That’s part of the problem, any strength it might have is limited to a particular direction and it won’t respond well to any torsion or changes in load direction. The second and third have the cubic infill, which provides support/strength in every direction.

Really like this video! I'm currently designing my own 3D-print fitness tools, this helped a lot. Will send you an update as soon as when my prints are ready. and maybe you would like to test them.

I am always interested in gym related stuff. Let me know what you come up with.

Pretty cool and useful! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with - maybe a true fitted riser for the tower side of a TG? Anyway, I’ve got to look into one of these!

Total Gym stuff should be pretty easy. I'm currently making custom rollers that can be used for better resistance band training (since the foot boards that come with most systems all share the same glaring issues).

The footboard rollers for the band systems sounds interesting. If you start selling them, let me know. As much as I’d love to get a 3D printer and do this stuff myself, I just don’t see having the time this upcoming year. And I do use the X3 band system because it’s easy to travel with (I ordered the zip-up travel bag with it), so something to protect the bands from the footboard edges would be great. TG at home and bands on the road are pretty much my exercise world right now.

Have you released your files for download anywhere (paid or free)? I'd like to try printing them and would be willing to provide feedback and edits on the source files if you wouldn't mind. Just would like them for my personal gym and to help out if I can. Thanks! Good job explaining everything in the video too!

I downloaded a bunch of random files from websites like thingiverse and printables and then modified various designs.

@@SkylerKingTW I meant your source files or final .stl file. I would like to print this as well and could provide feedback for your design by printing and using it, so that it may help perfect it. I don't mind paying a couple dollars either if it helps supplement your personal time.

Are you going to release the STL's?

What kind of printer did you buy? At my job we have a printer farm with over 120 printers. Most of them are Prusa. They work well. Been looking at the Bamboo printers. May pick some up to test. Any questions let me know.

I got the Anycubic Kobra Max, since it allows for larger prints if needed while sill being budget friendly.

So, was it difficult to program the design? Or were there design templates that came with the printer?

    • @SkylerKingTW
      @SkylerKingTW  9 месяцев назад

I didn't design any of these. I did a Google search for various key terms, which eventually led me to discovering that sites like "printables" or "thingiverse" have the best selection and all of the downloads are free. I then spent a few days going back and forth between those sites, searching various key words and terms and downloaded a bunch of different templates. Once I had about a dozen different templates, I started loading them into my slicing software to see which ones required the least amount of material or could print the fastest. Then, I printed a few variations and tested them (seen in this video) and will now take what I have learned during testing and I will either modify the existing templates to improve on them, or make new ones from scratch.
