I've owned a JD-800 since 1992 and it is simply an amazing synth. It sounds superb and it looks so cool too. I have many synths...a Jupiter X, a Yamaha V50, a Behringer Odyssey, a Juno-D and a few others....my wife even says I can sell anyone at anytime EXCEPT the JD-800....because "...it's so beautiful..." 'Nuff said!
Yes, it's really cool. I have one also. Generally it's underrated synth. Perfects pads and wavetable possibilities, but problems with keyboard is one drawback. However unique synth
Damn absolutly gorgeous. The 800/990 are as you said and imo the best digital synths Roland produce , I even sold an Integra as there was something just not quite there . Perhaps it was just overwhelmed with sound. Fantatsticly demonstrated.
This synth sounds amazing to me and IMO still looks futuristic to this day. I keep debating whether I want the boutique version; I did however recently purchase the JX-08.
Thanks, there are a lot of good RUclips videos to get the keyboard alive. I also did it and it is a bit work and you have to be very careful, but its worth the job
Totally different architecture, totally different sounds. JD-800 is much more excepional and unique. JD-XA is a modern product, sounds like anything else produced nowadays in this price range. JD-08 is much more closer but it's not exact copy.
@@goodman1127 Honestly I dont think it sounds like anything else in this price range. Why? Because the Roland architecture doesnt sound like the one form Novation or Korg. It sounds like other Roland in its price range because a lot of Rolands Supernatural/Zencore inherit the Roland sound. But still they all sound to some extend like the vintage Rolands they are modelled after
@ believe me Roland JD-XA sounds pretty mediocre. Nothing to excite. I tested this instrument. But JD-800 was the pinnacle of the early nineties. Totally different situations
Watching this demo of the 800 at the same time as I’m watching an episode of Twin Peaks sparks the question. Did series score composer (the late) Angelo Badalamenti have a JD-800 on his keyboard/synthesizer arsenal? I know he had a JX-8p and an MKS-70.
I had an absolutely mint one of these bought from a local church years ago for $700. But in the end the sounds just didn't inspire me in the same way that the D50 does. It doesn't have the same presence somehow so I sold it. I don't miss it to be honest......it did look nice though. Roland knows how to get the looks of their hardware right.
Thank you very much. I don’t know if they work. Those patches are from Theo Bloderer. Just check his review on the JD-800 on greatsynthesizers.com and you find the sysex.
I had one, but Roland had a lot of problems with the keys of some type of synths from that era. Fixing that was very expensive and I had luck it can be repair. That’s the only reason I sold this beauty, there were a lot of owners with the same problem and the glue problem ( keys)
Yes I know. I also got this one with sticky red glue keys. It was a risk but the price was good. Finally I don’t regret it. I could repair it myself. I had to dissemble the whole lex. board, get rid of the glue and glue them again plus repair the keybed. Everything works fine and even aftertouch works.
Cannot seem to find any link here or on your website either as to where you can download these patches. Can you give us some more info on where they might be or where you got hem from etc..
They should release the JO-800 MK2 or the JD-1600 with 2x/4x the polyphony, sounds, 2x/4x effects, 2 MIDI IN/OUT/THRU, real time Cc's, backward patch compatibility, etc., etc.
This synth is truly unique in making you feel you’re at the helm of the Starship Enterprise! (plus it sounds fantastic 😊)

Got them both the 800 and the 990 awesome synths
Well, I don't have the JD-800 but the JD-990, sounds also amazing. Well played, thx for showing :)
When I hear these gorgeous Roland pads it always makes me want to listen to Split Enz. 🙂✌️
Vangelis like pad is great
Great demo !
Wow I'm going to fire up my jd now sounded fantastic 😮

epic sound !!!

The JX and the JD together via midi must be the best pad layer you can get.
There is still the JD-XA as an alternative to the JD-800
Great Demo. Thanx. My JD has the Redglue Issue 😭

One of the best synth's .
I would like to see a comparison of a JD-XA vs JD-800 - there is no video comparing the successor to it legendary ancestor

What is the Pad at 4:20? Very beautiful

Days of the future past. :)
Hi Rüdiger, das Pad ab 3:45 ist das im Netz verfügbar (Name?) oder hast du das selbst programmiert? Wirklich schön!

Great!!
Great job, are these patches available for the Roland Jupiter X JD800 expansion?
Thank you very much. I don’t know if they work. Those patches are from Theo Bloderer. Just check his review on the JD-800 on greatsynthesizers.com and you find the sysex.
how would you compare the JD-800 to the JP-8000?
Very different. Can’t compare it. 800 very warm and soft, 8000 can sound harsh and airy also
Look at the specs - one is basically a Jupiter like VA and the JD is a "rompler" with a great interface - but a rompler in a very good way

Are these presets?
No, these are from the net. See description
Any place you're selling those presets as a pack?
They are available for free. See Theo bloderer greatsynthesizers.com
@@vintagesynths You are a legend and a pillar of the synth community. Thanks
4:20 choir pad
Klaus Schulze all over
Could you play the same thing on the 990?
Unfortunately I sold my 990 several years ago.
