That's classic 'Magic', you gotta love that brother, haha. I don't know if there's another player who knows more about the game than that man does. He tells the best stories too. I've always said i would have loved to see those classic 'Dream Team' scrimmages in '92, could you imagine just how intense and how competitive those games we're, all of those great players and hall of famers on the same floor just going at each other, i'd rather see that than the actual games the 'Dream Team' played.
In my opinion Magic Johnson is one of the top 5 NBA players of all time and the best Laker ever (I'll get crucified for that, I'm sure). For him to give that much praise to Michael Jordan and to show so much respect tells you just how good MJ was.
@nitotech You're kidding right? Larry was "only" past his prime was because of his back, that's it. Magic was only 32 yrs old and you call that beyond his prime? Magic was in great physical condition. Spain and Argentina are good, but really? The Redeem Team w/ Closer 3pt lines were shooting 26%. The Dream Team not only had More Size, but 98% of them were at their Primes. Should I mention Prime MJ? Who's going to stop him on Redeem Team? Nobody. The Dream Team was the Greatest Ever.
Excellent stories, but international competition is tougher now compared to the last 20 years. His point is similar to Wilt's 100 pts--Kobe came close w/ 81, but I doubt anyone is going to reach triple digits in today's NBA
@CZRonUTube You seem to have forgotten about the Yugoslav and Russian teams that ruled all of Europe throughout the 80s. Most of their international records still stand. Drazen Petrovic and Arvydas Sabonis are still the archetypes of perfection in FIBA and Eurobasket leagues. I will give you this, though: This year's Lithuanian team is flat-out beastly. If Team USA can beat them (or Argentina) in the gold medal game this summer by at least 20 points, I will entertain your comparison.
I adore Magic and this story! But he realy cant blame Kobe, because non American Teams now are way better than they were in 1992. There is now legitimacy to compare the average winning margins.
@sumskater999 Your right. The RT wasn't even remotely close to the 1992, people shouldn't even compare it to the 1992 squad. The 1996 Team>>>RT. The Redemp Team was shooting 26% at the 3pt line, and were completely clueless against zones which was hilarious. Don't say the DT didn't see zones back in the days, zones were disguised (look to the Jordan Rules). The DT not only shot better, but had better fundamentals, they also had the best PG, better bigs, and a 28 year old Michael Jordan.
I love Magic lol his story telling is hilarious. On a side note the Redeem Team was great but it wasn't Kobe's fault they didn't win by 40. You've got Kidd, Kobe, Wade, LeBron, CP3, Williams on the outside all ideal for the time. But the frontcourt had Howard, great player, Melo great player but a sf not a pf, Bosh and Boozer. If it had KG and a younger Shaq or Duncan instead of Bosh and Boozer then you can criticize the Redeem Team for not outscore everyone else by 40.
I gotta say the Dream Team is better by FAR. Jordan, Drexler, Stockton, Malone, Magic, you just can't assemble a better team. Those guys could play well all the time. The Redeem Team is strong for sure, but they have moments when you're thinking "Why the hell aren't they playing much better??" Too often, people look at modern times thinking it's the best. But people forget to look at history. Just look at footage of these guys to know that they were way better. And how is KB even close to MJ??
@nitotech You can't be serious. The orginal dream team's size alone would be too much for the redeem team. I don't even have to talk about prime Jordan. Hell prime Pippen locks LeBron down. What else does the redeem have? Boozer? Bosh? Against Ewing, Robinson, Malone, and Barkley? Really?????
Back in 1992 basketball was played in America so of course they won by an average of 40. Now there are really good teams like Spain and Argentina who have players in the NBA. He's basically shouted his ignorance and I'm a Lakers fan too. Redeem team would have destroyed the dream team because Magic and Bird were past their prime by then.
Bwhahahah. You obviously have never seen the Soviet Union team or the Yugoslavian teams of end 80s, beginning of the 90s...Marciulions, Sabonis, Kurtinaitis, Petrovic, Kukoc, Divac, Danilovic, Djordjevic....these guys would kick the RT's ass
I love listening to Magic Johnson telling his stories.
i love Magic! That has
to be the greatest basketball story i have ever heard :D
The 1992 TEAM is lightyears ahead the 2012 team.

Even though I am big Michael Jordan Fan. Magic Johnson sure is a great story teller when it comes telling stories about Michael Jordan.
In my opinion Magic Johnson is one of the top 5 NBA players of all time and the best Laker ever (I'll get crucified for that, I'm sure). For him to give that much praise to Michael Jordan and to show so much respect tells you just how good MJ was.
MAN!THE ORIGINAL DREAM TEAM WAS THE GREATEST TEAM OF ALL TIME, THEY'RE INDESTRUCTIBLE!
.
I LOVE MAGIC! FOR HIM TO SAY THAT ABOUT MJ, IS JUST A TESTAMENT OF JUST HOW GOOD, EXCUSE ME, I MEAN GREAT MJ WAS!
always love magic's stories
Because the Kobe fanboys think he is the best player of all time. I'd rank him as the third best Laker of all time behind Kareem and Magic.
and that what legends r all about......that what greatness is all about
Question: "Gimme your quick - favorite memory of the dream team?"
Magic: "Oh my goodness..." *talks for 7 minutes straight
LOL - still epic story
JORDAN! 'Nuff said....Magic confirmed it!
this was "quick" lol thanx MJ.

"we be waitin on them.." hahaha

General consensus is always if a story needs to be told let Magic tell the story😂
I adore Magic and this story! But he realy cant blame Kobe, because non American Teams now are way better than they were in 1992. There is now legitimacy to compare the average winning margins.
Not to mention that the Olympic 3-point line is shorter than the NBA 3-point line. They should've shot it over 40%.
@sumskater999 Your right. The RT wasn't even remotely close to the 1992, people shouldn't even compare it to the 1992 squad. The 1996 Team>>>RT.

Damn, I didn't realise Chuck Daly had passed away until I saw this. I'm obviously just a plastic basketball fan.
MAGIC JOHNSON RIGHT ON 1992 DREAM TEAM ?
Why would you get crucified for that? Anyone who has seen this guy playing must obviously think the same...
I love Magic lol his story telling is hilarious.

he didn't mention how international basketball used to suck....lol
@nitotech You can't be serious. The orginal dream team's size alone would be too much for the redeem team. I don't even have to talk about prime Jordan. Hell prime Pippen locks LeBron down. What else does the redeem have? Boozer? Bosh? Against Ewing, Robinson, Malone, and Barkley? Really?????

You have no idea what you are talking about. The 1992 dream team is the best team ever assembled in the history of team sports
@2enchant lol you funny!!!
lets see it
@2enchant boo. :P
Obviously some exaggeration but a pretty funny story teller.
Nitotech..... so.. Sabonis isnt in the nba at that time... kukoc... marciulonus... thats just to NAME a few....
