    I kept seeing the Bedford in magazines and catalogs and just wanted to get my hands on one. Showed up at a Guitar center and found one of the limited edition Fiesta Red models in the used section for $499. Picked it up, was floored by the weight balance and the neck feel, plugged it in, was floored by the tones it offered with ease, then hit it with some distortion and laid down some Mastodon style riffing and it just screamed to life. My now wife encouraged me to layaway it because everything about it was so perfect to me and I couldn't drag myself away from it. It had been bought and returned 2 months later when I found it, not a scratch on it, the strings hadn't been changed since it was bought and it was perfectly in tune. Now, I want D'angelico to make some replacement pickguards in pearloid with the mini/s/s with tremolo configuration so I could add a touch of class to the guitar while retaining that flashy stance.

      I'll have to send you a pic. I made my own pickguard from white pearloid and changed the tuner buttons to match...really dresses it up.

    Kind of reminds me of a Charvel Surfcaster. That guitar is easy on the eyes, and your playing is great, but it doesn't seem to bring anything different sounding to the table. Well, I did enjoy watching you demo it though!

      Thanks. It does have some interesting features, especially the heelless design. And it’s surprisingly loud unplugged which makes me want to hear it with slightly richer pickups.

    I got one of these, it was owned by Rick Derringer. I had just purchased a Epiphone Casino, but it was just too cheap to gig with so I took it back and got the D'Angelico. The Bedfore I got is the same color as the one in the video. I love the guitar and use it during gigs, it has a nice tone. It fits perfectly into my Tom Petty cover band as well.

    I thought the necks were great, - very fundamentally playable guitars.The pickgaurd, pups, and nut all look inexpensive, but if it wasn't for the ornate headstock, it would have a Fender utilitarian vibe, anyway.
    Good mini humbuckers are always expensive, but would probably make a substantial difference, as would a good nut.I'd look into finding some way of modding or changing the pickgaurd , - no rush, - and replace the electronics with the hb.Sometimes cheap, unpotted, humbuckers can be surprising, depending on the sound you want.They are lighter and more ergonomic bodies than the more standard design as well.Ebony fingerboards, however, are a serious selling point...

      Of course the Deluxe version likely addresses those shortcomings, but it’s about a thousand dollars more. Most of what you mentioned is typical of a lot of guitars in the $700 range these days. I agree the ebony board is nice. I’m a big fan of those just for the aesthetics.
      Thanks for watching.

    Just purchased this guitar used. Really digging it so far but the bridge mini humbucker is super microphonic which is making gigging with this guitar difficult. Was your bridge pickup ever microphonic?

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Год назад +3

      Honestly, I only played it for review and didn’t notice any microphonics at the low volume levels I use here in my studio. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not wax potted since that’s an extra manufacturing step which isn’t always taken with guitars built in Asia for this price point. The good news is the guitar itself is very nicely built and the mini humbucker is the standard size, so replacing it shouldn’t be difficult and would take the guitar up a notch as well. The used market should yield something excellent and affordable. Thanks so much for watching.

    I've got this guitar and it looks and plays great. My one gripe is the humbucker of all things, has the hum. The neck and middle position pickups have very little hum solo, and no hum at all in tandom. So, it seems odd that the humbucker is the culprit. Are you experiencing the same with a bit of gain?

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  11 месяцев назад

      That’s interesting. I buy these guitars for review and no longer have that one to check, but I don’t recall any excessive noise at all. Then again, hum is minimal here in my studio. Still seems a little odd. Of course humbucking pickups aren’t really silent which is why even humbucker guitars often use shielded cable and shielding in the control cavity. If I had to guess I have to think the design of the pickup could be the problem. Perhaps one coil is a little hotter than the other.
      Best of luck and thanks for watching.

      Thanks for the reply. I am going to try replacing the minihumbucker and see if it makes any difference. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the 5 way switch...cold solder maybe?@@leonardgriffieblues5845

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  11 месяцев назад

      @@chainduckIf I had to guess I’d say it’s most likely the pickup. If the coils aren’t nearly identical there’ll be hum. There are ways to test this, but from afar it’s only a guess.

    • @brendancleary9490
      @brendancleary9490 9 месяцев назад +1

      The neck and middle in these are actually stacked single coils

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  9 месяцев назад

      @@brendancleary9490Interesting. I haven’t had that guitar here since shortly after doing the review, but I don’t recall much hum from any of the pickups, so that would make sense. Funny the manufacturer has them listed as just “Duncan Designed Single Coils”, since, if stacked they’re not actually single coils at all.

    in Indonesia, the premiere (most affordable line) of D'Angelico even got up to $1200-ish. so sad..

    what do you think about the price? Can I find something better for the price?

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Год назад +2

      Well, “better” is going to be entirely subjective at that price point. In terms of quality, it’s built as well as anything at that price, but PRS SE will likely deliver better fretwork and setup. Not that this is bad, but if I were keeping it I’d be getting a more precise fret level and I’d definitely work on the nut.
