6:58 correct me if I'm wrong, but in Genshin the banners' pity system is also seperated among different banners. The two "champion" banners share the pity counter, but the weapon banner and the 4th banner should have their own pity counters. This is likely to prevent players from building up pity with (more or less) easy to obtain blue wishes and use the pink ones to actually get the character.
This is correct as most gachas from my experience (played a lot of them) most of them have separate pity from the limited banners and the standard banner. That said limited banners do share the same pity and carry over to the new banner after the current one
As someone who used to like Genshin, I actually enjoyed the Gacha as a (almost fully) F2P player. I spent so much time saving up little by little until I had enough to hit pity for the one banner that I knew I actually wanted to rare from. League has none of this fun. No promise of banners coming back, no free single pulls to get me interested, no sense of progression building pity from banner to banner, and not even an interesting pulling menu (the sanctum just looks terrible). They took all of the interaction and strategy out of Gacha that gets casual players engaged and instead just made a slot machine. Genuinely I think if instead of hextech chests they just gave out at least one free pull a week on the sanctum, there would be some upside to this whole terrible controversial change.
I don't play Gacha games, but this is also something that comes to mind. Gacha and Lootboxes have no value if you don't give at least a handful away for free at least on a monthly basis. Ideally one a day, to make sure the player keeps coming back, but also ensures an eventual reward of some kind. Not to mention the pulls are expensive to begin with. When overwatch was new, I played it a good bit. They had a pretty good system back then, where you got a lootbox every level, and you got an xp boost for every win of the day that would almost level you. So you play 2 games, get a lootbox, with the option of playing more games to get more free stuff. That engages you enough without demanding expenditure that Overwatch did very well for a long time. You know, until they burned themselves to the ground, repeatedly for several years. Compare that the leagues previous system, S hextech crates. Those kinda sucked, you could only get a few per day or week or whatever the timer was and you could only get one per champ per season. Anyone in your premade group could get an S though, and you would get the crate. You could get the crates on Aram too. Most of the loot is stuff you probably won't care about, so its easiest just to save up shards to reroll or disenchant in order to get one you do want. But it was better than effectively nothing.
This is just disgusting, they are just making advertisment for their skins. They don't care at all of the casual player experience being worse. I know that skins are not related to gameplay, but at the end of the day, even if you were on a lose streak, getting your chest and maybe finding a good skin fragment to play more for obtaining the skin was enjoyable enough to keep you intrested in playing and maybe try new champions that you could enjoy with your brand new skin. It just felt good and they are removing this core part of the game.

7:18 No... This is what I call Hoyo gacha system, since it was popularized in the world by Genshin Impact. Basic gacha system that was much more common across gacha games always had separate pities on separate banners that are just gone, when banner ends. You got spoiled by Hoyo games being your introduction into gacha, Necrit.
I feel like those pity systems make it worse. It makes it that every time you dont get what you want it doesn't feel as "wasted" and easier to rationalize for yourself. While still being absolute bottom tier return on investment.
you know what's funny? before mithic skins were skins that when met in game made you KNOW that the guy in front of you is a real main of that champion, while now every player that buys the pass is simply gonna play the mithic skin and it's gonna become common to the point where it's not even considered special anymore
I dunno about you guys, but I actually love this system! Because looking at it makes me want to not get back into League, which is the best and most healthy choice!
League could make this so much better by converting existing keys and chests into pulls from the gacha system, and then instead of earning keys and chests in the future you could earn pulls on the gacha system. It just would make perfect sense and streamline things
Is Riot like ACTUALLY stupid? I used to buy every battlepass bcs i could just use the tokens on whatever i want. Now i won't buy it bcs i dont play katarina so it feels wasteful
Yeah literally, I loved buying random stuff with the currency, and every BP felt alright to get if I liked the icons, etc... Now there is absolutely no way I'm buying a BP that forces me to get a prestige skin for a random champ I don't play... 😅😅😅😅
I bought the pass becuz i main katarina but i wont be buying anymore pass after this one like why would i even pay for a skin that i wont even use? Even tho people complained about the bps before this one, atleast they gave way better rewards and option to choose for it. Riot just ruining everything man.
Same! the way you could get the prestige skin OR like 20 orbs was pretty fun, it made worth to buy the pass even if you didn´t care about the prestige skin, now, unless they release a bp with the perfect roaster of skins and champions I exactly like I am never gonna buy that shit. (thnx suckkers for giving the only skin I wanted for free) I liked the extra grind the old bp pass gave you, now I don´t really play much because I don´t see anything to grind out other than rank and too much rankeds made me want to talon e over my balcony so I tried not play that many. its the old netflix conundrum. get everyone into the service with promise of great prices for the things you want and then year by year increase costs, remove the free perks bit by bit and hope the customers wont notice. kinda like when netflix took away family sharing between accounts
I’d genuinely be interested to see the stats on new and returning players. Because on the one hand I’ve heard a lot of claims that there’s lots of new players post arcane etc. But on the other, I’ve heard that the player base has dropped massively after the new loot systems.
There are numbers floating around the internet saying they've lost around 20 million monthly players since 2022, being the peak 152 million and 2024 being at 132 millon, how right are the numbers? Idk, but they are fucking up big time, both on monetizing the game, and gameplay/balance decisions
I would not trust that "player base has dropped massively" after the new loot system. If I've learnt anything from my time on the internet it is that companies basically never get punished for fucking over their customers
Tbh the 3 changes that are dumb imo. 1. event pass system, removing tokens and ability to choose between prestige, ME and just buying orbs was amazing. 2. The mythic essence skin shard (10 me) was also good and makes a lot more sense to have now with the sanctum. Why remove this? Whats the point of mythic essence if you don't like any of the skins? 3. The mastery chest progression. Man that was such a cool way to get people to play from a group/set of champs which was so much fun and a reason to play solo swiftplay. So wild they changed this to simply battlepass xp for a useless/significantly worse pass than any of the prior ones
Does anyone remember the survey they asked us to do a while ago, where we all said we were mostly happy with the way things were, and then they promptly changed the system to be *less* rewarding?
As a Sett/Morde/Darius otp, I quit around when Darius got his mythic chroma. You can probably assume why I won't ever come back to League. Just like Hextech Chests.
I missed the time when Riot Games cared about their game and players. When I first came to League, Riot felt like another player rather than a company. They cared about the lore, creators, the players. They may do questionable things but at least they put the community in mind. I thought they weren't like other companies and I felt proud to play and support their games. Seems like we're headed to a dark path.
Hextech chests aside, something that is so greedy and feels completely wrong is the fact that the gacha system is 100% locked behind a pay wall. You can't even get ONE single pull for free and for the odds the banner has it wouldn't make the skin less limited. Currently, if Im not wrong, you can get 3 pulls by buying and completing the pass. Just add either 2 or 3 free pulls, and either keep the 3 paid or get them to 5: This means that a F2P player can reach the pity in about FOURTY SEASONS, again, and it does NOT make the skin less exclusive. Same for pass buyers who also have to grind to complete the pass, reaching pity in either 10 seasons which would be somewhat reasonable for the price and time relation, or 16 depending on the changes suggested above. The skins aren't worth anyways, but it just feels wrong. Not as much as removing our chests tho RIOOOT BRING THEM BACK. Edit: Just for comparison on the gacha system, TFT got it right for Chibi Champion Skins. High pity yet you get like 6 pulls per season for free, and if you buy the pass you get more than double.
Correct me if I'm wrong, as I couldn't care less about those cringe games, but, isn't content locked behind those gacha systems? For example in genshin you get characters that way, no? Similar to card games like Hearthstone, where you can buy packs of cards with money or game currency. For these it makes sense to get some for free. That would mean it's not the same as League, where cosmetics have no use and if you didn't spend a cent on the game you're in the same power level as someone who spent a million.
@Ecliptor. Yes, the difference in the systems is necessity. A gacha game literally needs a free way of getting pulls, while league is completely optional. My point was just about being rewarded for playing, chests were perfect for that for example, while not needed it feels good for the players. And since its a gacha with very low percentage of winning, giving basically less than 10 pulls per year doesn't really make you lose money while keeping the prize rarity, in fact normal people might actually start to pay for pulls seeing that they get closer to the pity. It's more about satisfaction, in TFT there are chibi champions as gacha system, but you still get those 6 (maybe more) pulls per battlepass if you grind a bit. I've been playing it for a lot now, Im not near pity but I get rewards by pulling on the chibi I want, be it other guardians or currency, it feels satisfying to get rewarded. Ofc you don't have to play the game for rewards, play the game for the game. All this just to say that I think it would be nice to get some realistic, justified, reward, after all the time you spend on a game.
Someday, People is gonna understand that if they want to stop things getting worse, they have to not only STOP feeding the company with money, but also STOP playing the game entirely. There's tons of better games outside, just give them a fricking opportunity with the mind open without thinking "I have to come back to league". BTW, TFT does't have a "guaranteed" system anymore, you have to pull the whole path 2 times (A total of 120 times) so you can get the token currency to choose between the current little legends available.

Where is my article about why hextech chests were removed I cant believe they made this entire article and looking at it all next to each other still thought it was a good idea
I play wild rift, and their gacha system is more predatory and I hate it. The part at 3:40 which stated “limited availability skin for special events”, would mean they will be trying to do the same tactics in wild rift where certain skins lines “the goods skins” are only available for a certain period and yes that includes EPIC skins which i dont get why it should be part of the limited aspect. Im sure its part of their FOMO tactics which were successful in wild rift and valorant but I hate that they will be possibly bringing it to league.
This shows that Hextech Chests are gone for good... Really depressing, but can't blame them, they're an Indie company desperate to stay afloat after all
Riot wants to be transparent, but from a sales perspective has zero interest in transparency. The less we can compare skins, the more vague become prices and currencies, the less quality per currency they need to deliver. This doesn't even HAVE to be malicious, the less they need to do to make us happy, the more happy they can make us (or their shareholders).
I dont get your comment? League has the most horrible community in all of online gaming but everyone flamed them for the blue essence missstep they did and now you get blue essence even easier and more of it then the last couple of years so why use that as an example?

9:41 "You don't play as many games these days" I may have completely misunderstood this, but you need 15 wins now to get them. 3 times a year. At least they said there will be 3 victorious skins and one thing not clarified was if the quest unlocks all of them - but that doesn't make sense to me, cause what if I finish the 15 games e.g. in split 2 or 3. Right now, if we assume 15 games per split, that would be the equivalent of 150 SP to get the Skin at Gold+, which is really not a big ask given they downgraded the rank ladder. And note - this doesn't include any losses. Instead of 150 SP, you needed 80 SP, and losses also counted. If we assume a 50% winrate, which I'd say is fair, then you'd need 30 ranked games to get the victorious skin. In the system prior, if you had a 50% winrate, that's 16 SP per 2 games or 80 SP in 10 games. 10 vs 30 ranked games is a HUGE difference for someone who doesn't play ranked, like me. Heck, I had a 83% winrate and still needed 18 games (15w3l) to get the quest finished. So prior you needed 20 games a year to get 2 victorious skins, now you need 90 ranked games for 3 victorious skins. Of course you don't NEED to do it, but I can't be the only one who feels bad knowing there is a free skin right around the corner if I just play.
Only 6 minutes in and the article already contradicted itself. “You can combine three skin shards to get 1 **unowned** skin.” “Except the ones we specifically removed from the pool, the gacha skins.”
That is not a contradiction. Not being able to reroll into the gacha skins doesn't contradict the statement of being able to reroll into an unowned skin.
What I took from this article is that no new skins are coming to the Mythic Ess shop as it's an easily obtainable cheap currency now, it will only been rotating with the older, already unlocked prestige skins from earlier events.
Glad it werent just me. I have started using a program to use custom skins and changed everything to default so you can accurately see the difference in the champs again. Plus I'm refusing to look at whales showing of their parents wallets.

At this point we shouldn't be mad at Riot, we should be mad at the -1 iq people buying their overpriced 1% chance collector's special ultra rare edition legendary ultimate prestige variant skins that's barely more than a 10 dollar skin. Genuinely these guys (Which are more common than "whales" btw) are the problem
While yes, those people enable this behaviour, I still think we shouldn't lose the sight of the problem and that is- Riot the Company is not only uncaring about us, it's also becoming actively malicious towards their fans and players. That's unacceptable, why SHOULDN'T we hold Riot accountable! Product enshittification indeed.

Gatcha system in League Doesn't make any sense First of all, the gacha system was made to lock characters under a "soft paywall" (you can get them naturally without spending any money, but depend on luck and pity system, or just force it and "buy" that champion). League just made it so you can only buy them (you can't naturally get rolls just by playing game) Second thing, gacha system was made for CHARACTERS, NOT SKINS. Having a rare character in your layout can have more impact than just changed animations and textures. Even in gatcha games like Genshin, some skins are in the shop to buy or obtainable by events FOR FREE, WITH NO LUCK. To sum it up, Riot have to do something diffrent with that gacha (make the rolls obtainable for F2P by giving them into a free pass and/or make them buyable by for example orange essence or mythic shards). Also, bring back free hextech chests.
"We want to clear up our confusing and cluttered loot system" "Instead of hextech chests, here are 5 separate systems with different currencies and methods of acquisition. Also every one of these are paid except a single skin on the battlepass, you're welcome."

I would love to see a Necrit video comparing leagues gacha to proper gacha games. I know you have a lot of expertise in both
I don't play Gacha games, but this is also something that comes to mind.
Tbf you should not need a dopamine gratification system to supplement fun to play a videogane just play something else lol

Yeah, gachas are currently hot garbage but they've traditionally been so much worse too. Hell, Pity itself is relatively recent.
Fate didn't even HAVE pity until more recently for NA. Genshin is very forgiving for a gacha game.
Yes but it's more relevant than ever, as more and more new gacha games take this pity system.
I feel like those pity systems make it worse. It makes it that every time you dont get what you want it doesn't feel as "wasted" and easier to rationalize for yourself. While still being absolute bottom tier return on investment.

I dunno about you guys, but I actually love this system! Because looking at it makes me want to not get back into League, which is the best and most healthy choice!
you are real for that
League could make this so much better by converting existing keys and chests into pulls from the gacha system, and then instead of earning keys and chests in the future you could earn pulls on the gacha system. It just would make perfect sense and streamline things
This could be a system that’d actually work. We should petition for this to replace the current horrible mess!

yea i used event currency to buy loot orbs if the 2000 event currency prestige was a hero i didnt play or a skin i didnt care for

Where are my Hextech chests, Riot? (I’m delusional)
Ever since the new season, after I stopped playing, I picked up my 3DS and I’ve been playing all the Zelda games
I’d genuinely be interested to see the stats on new and returning players. Because on the one hand I’ve heard a lot of claims that there’s lots of new players post arcane etc. But on the other, I’ve heard that the player base has dropped massively after the new loot systems.
They'll survive lol
Arcane failed to pull in and retain new players.
There are numbers floating around the internet saying they've lost around 20 million monthly players since 2022, being the peak 152 million and 2024 being at 132 millon, how right are the numbers? Idk, but they are fucking up big time, both on monetizing the game, and gameplay/balance decisions
@@riven4121 can't imagine why 😂

Trust me guys, TFT monetization is been getting even worse.

“You can combine three skin shards to get 1 **unowned** skin.”
“Except the ones we specifically removed from the pool, the gacha skins.”
I saw the thumbnail and immediately thought it was a mordekaiser video lol

Gatcha system in League Doesn't make any sense
First of all, the gacha system was made to lock characters under a "soft paywall" (you can get them naturally without spending any money, but depend on luck and pity system, or just force it and "buy" that champion). League just made it so you can only buy them (you can't naturally get rolls just by playing game)
Second thing, gacha system was made for CHARACTERS, NOT SKINS.
"We want to clear up our confusing and cluttered loot system"
"Instead of hextech chests, here are 5 separate systems with different currencies and methods of acquisition. Also every one of these are paid except a single skin on the battlepass, you're welcome."
If you can’t see the scam I pity you
" People weren't paying for the skins " Um no, paying with time....
