    Looks more like a Epiphone Broadway model than the Joe Pass, especially because of tail piece and switch location

  • @geckobaldy

    It's a pre Joe Pass Epiphone Emperor. This is because Joe Pass had the pickup switch moved to the top (like a Les Paul) for it to become his signature guitar. Also the Epiphone headstock font like on this one was changed in about '96/'97 so it can't be a 2000. My EEJP is from 1992 (a very early one and has the same font as yours. The 9 at the beginning of the serial number could mean it's from 1989 which is before the Joe Pass was introduced.

    with the tree of life head stalk and the gibson cover I would say its a epiphone made in Korea circa 88-90 . my es335 was the same looking and a great guitar . Love made in Korea quality..

    Now you can buy an Epiphone Broadway Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Vintage Natural finish. It looks the same as the "Emperor". These guitars are great because you can play them acoustically or with an amp (with or without head-phones).

    This guitar has the Joe Pass (smaller) Venetian type cutaway. Still a great guitar! The Emperor/Broadway cutaways are more fuller and rounder comparable to the Gibson L5.
    The Frequensator tailpiece is what Epiphone equips exclusively and only on their Emperor/Broadway types and not the Joe Pass model.

    That may be a made in Japan Epi Broadway. If so you got a good deal. The Broadway and Joe Pass models are and always have been two separate models. The top is solid spruce and side and back are maple. I lived in Santa Cruz for like 30 years, great place.

    Have you ever done or can you do a review on the Epiphone ES 125 White Fang George Thorogood model? Thank you. Do you know if Epiphone or Gibson makes a all hollow body with humbucker pickups?

  • @shaalis
    @shaalis 2 года назад

    Ya that's a preproduction model. The tailpiece may ...may be original. The frequensator tail is designed to be switched back and forth to change the string tension between high and low. It may also be a fake but I highly doubt it. The pre production models are from the early 90s or late 80s, tho not the 2000s. It may also me a experimental early 2000s remodelling of the Emperor II.

    The Emperor is what I call Epiphones "Cult Guitars". Not a lot of people know about it or even play it much. Because there are other far more popular Epiphone Jazz guitar options out there. But my 98' Emperor is comparable to my Super 400. Which are totally different guitar ranges. Nice clean jazz box I prefer for guitars

    You say Epiphone as if they are a bad guitar brand. They may not be what they were back in the early 1900s but they still make high quality instruments with maybe the exception of a few years. If you're going to review every guitar you should definitely learn a little more on the history of guitars and guitar makers. Not trying to be an ass but I think it would help your channel greatly.

    • @danielgildenlow8151
      @danielgildenlow8151 Год назад

      Exactly. There's a good reason Gibson bought them to start with - they made (and still make) stellar hollow bodies, and still put a lot of quality effort in their own models such as the Sheraton, Broadway and Emperor, which have never been Gibson copies but Epiphone's own models. Honestly, I've come across some shitty Gibsons in my days, but never a truly shitty Epiphone.

    Stick with solidbodies, or at the very least, research a LITTLE!
    "I'm assuming Joe Pass was like some kinda guitarist"???? How can ANYONE play a guitar and not know one of the best Jazz guitarists that ever lived??? How could you miss that???
    There is a HUGE amount of knowledge needed to properly assess an archtop guitar, and you quite obviously do not posses any of that knowledge. In all fairness, you did admit that, but why would you even attempt to show the world your lack of knowledge??
    I wanted info on this very guitar (pre-Joe Pass Emperor), hoping you might shed some light on this rare guitar. No such luck!

    • @everysingleguitars

    • @JillandKevin
      @JillandKevin 5 месяцев назад

      I appreciate that you wanted to show your new guitar off.
      The thing is, that is a rare version of a VERY well known Epiphone Joe Pass archtop, before they put Joe's name on it. I have owned the later "Joe Pass" versions, but found one on Craigslist like the one you have. I scoured RUclips and the internet for info, finding nothing until I this. I thought "COOL!, I finally found something!". But alas, I found a video from someone who knows virtually nothing about archtop guitars. Now, I'm sure you are knowledgeable about solid bodies, but archtops are VERY different. There are important qualities that only archtops possess, (Think brain surgery vs stiching a cut on a leg, or fly fishing vs bait fishing with a WalMart $8 kids fishing rod).
      I'm a guitar maker. I build very high end solid and semi hollow guitars, but I would need YEARS more practice and a WAY more well equipped shop to build an archtop (although I DO play and perform with them) and would very likely build only mediocre guitars for several years before getting even close to a great archtop!
      I apologize for coming down so hard on you, but when you said "I'm assuming Joe Pass was like some kinda guitarist", it hit me hard!
      Do yourself a BIG favor and check Joe out. He was one of the most amazing guitarists that ever touched strings! While not as innovative as Django or Charlie Christian (You BETTER know who they were too!!), he was even more talented technically than just about anyone. He played behind ALL the best Swing and Jazz singers and instrumentalists, and his virtuosity was WAY beyond any super fast rockers!
