Adam, thank you for taking the time to provide illustrative details about fixing a noisy garage door. You are an excellent instructor - with a soothing calm voice. I also appreciate that you do not assume that some terms, location etc. is common knowledge to all. Much appreciated.
Thank you! I lubricated all the areas you mentioned with the lubricant you suggested and it totally fixed the problem! My husband tried before with WD40 but no luck. Use the lithium lubricant and the areas he mentions might need it. It has been getting louder for a couple of months, even louder this week. After squirting and blotting the excess, door opens and closes without a peep! Thank you so much!!!!!
Found you video on common garage door issues and used it to fix ours (bolt on sensor got loose so it was pointed down). Got it fixed, but then found your video to link the car to the opener, and then this video to make it quiet again! Great videos and very helpful, thanks!
My garage is super noisy and your video was the first one I came across. I know your stuff man!! I sound so intelligent like you just knew everything about that. Thanks
I spent an hour lubricating every moving part on my garage door with absolutely no improvement in the LOUD squealing. Then just before I gave up, I discovered that the PULLEY which holds and guides the long wire which is attached to the chain actually has some play up and down on its shaft. I had lubricated it, but had not lifted it up and down, applying silicone lube as I moved it up and down by hand. THIS FIXED THE SQUEAL. I hope this helps someone because I nearly gave up before I discovered the trick.
Well it sounds like you found the solution :) too often its the very last thing which then oh....there it goes....:) like how if something goes missing....its the very last place you look :)
You discovered a "trick of the trade" for a garage service company. They will tell you this and that needs repair and then when you are not around then a few sprays of lube on this part and you receive an invoice for $120. They show you a bag with some old parts from an old job and you start to feel good about the work they done but little do you know...you got lubed!
Thanks AdamDIY for the practical, and quite helpful vid. I know that sometimes making videos can be difficult when you're trying to point out specific things with your hands, etc. Oh, and I like the background house music!
Thank you very much . Very easy to understand your preventive maintenance . Keep up the good work . I will always refer to your videos first before calling on professionals . God bless you Sir .
My garage door has been making a screeching noise towards the bottom during closing. I also noticed that one of those white plastic edges under the rollers (the right side one), shown at 4:04, is broken and loose. I don't know how to replace it since it seems to be plastic. Is that the cause of any problem?
Just had our old wood door replaced with a steel door. Brand new tracks and components, old garage door opener. Everything was fine before, but now every now and then when we open the garage door we get a clacking noise coming from the motor. What do you think that could be? Could it e something because the new door is so much lighter that something needs adjustment?
Those bushings are a brilliant idea! 👍👍 That should be part of a standard install. Usually I use the tubed lithium grease on an old cloth and coat everything, but that lithium grease spray on the bearings and hinges seems to be the way to go to get the dirt / debris out. Thanks!!! 😎
I totally agree that bushing should be part of standard installation parts for a chain drive opener, I just installed a a chain drive one on my garage below my kitchen, it was so loud noise dry me nuts , definite ly need a rubber grommet d
nice informative video! if i go about adding the bushing to the ceiling, what do i need to pay attention to? Do i just unbolt them and add the bushing?
A few things to note: (1) never use regular WD40 on your garage door. It’s not a lubricant, but rather a water displacement agent. Eventually, can gunk up. (2) Be careful using White Lithium Grease on any plastic or rubber parts, as the petroleum in the white lithium can corrode the plastic/rubber over time. Rather, use silicone grease as it’s more inert.
Another issue might be that the bolt connecting the garage opener to the metal mounting bracket is loose. I just fixed an awful vibration noise coming from my own garage opener. I noticed that the loud noise would go away if I put my hand on the unit. So fix the vibration, I just tighten the bolt that connects the garage opener to the metal bracket and the loud vibration noise stopped.
We bought the Lixium Spray and follow the instructions on the video. The grinding noise that would sound as the door came down, is gone. We tested it 2 or 3 times afterwards, and an later, the door will not open. It tries, there is power, lights, but no action. Any suggestions? It seems like the plate above our Craftsman, rope to pull for emergency seems to have another plate underneath that detached throughout the process.
I did a few of these before even watching this and found loose joint and connections in addition to them needing lubrication. It’s not silent (they never are) but it’s back to sounding like a normal garage door again.
My garage door motor is making a humming noise, everything else works fine opening and closing normally, it is a Genie ReliaG 650, Model 1028, any tips you can offer? Thanks!
Thank you. This video was very helpful. I think that my problem is the misaligned track. The symptoms fit perfectly. Will try realigning in the morning.
we leave in a city here temperatures go beyond freezing esp at night and early morning .we have snow all winter at least 6 months . during winter my garage door sticks , does not open in morning . when warmed up it works smooth . please help me fix this . it sticks more in the mechanism I guess . one light sensory is GREEN AND other is YELLOW ? does that signify some thing . thanks .
Hit all points of contact with WD-40. Yes, on the side pulleys. Yes, on the main chain. Yes, on the side track. Yes, on the wheel pins. Yes, between every panel. Yes, on main upper spring. Yes, you're welcome.
I used the Lithium WD-40 product everywhere Adam suggested. It is like I have a new garage door. I lived in the same house for over a decade. I had never had the garage door serviced and may not have to for a while longer. My garage door is screw drive mechanism, lubricating that section really helped tremendously.
Why the two steel wheels? Off subject, but on my door at least, cannot deal with top and bottom rollers because they are under tension or a special metal cover over the connection.
LOL :) not stupid questions :) Ever seen Home Improvement with Tim Allen? :) somewhere there is somebody who saws holes in the ceiling....saws off the end of the bolts and has the thing crash on their head because they didn't stop to ask a question :)
Lubrication is great but please don't mess with the track people leave it to a professional door tech..... These things can be dangerous if you mess with the way it was put in and also that door needs a metal plate called and operator mounting plate to reinforce the door from top of top section. To bottom of the section should be 18 or 21 inches depending on your door will break off eventually if it's not out ob

This solved 80% of the noise from our 25 year old garage door in under 5 minutes! Thank you!!

@@dickhertz8103 nice punch line at the end!!!
@@briannafox1409 why are so many things like that? somewhat fantastic cuz usually when you give up, it comes to you
Thanks Adam! Another thing is to change the rollers out with some nylon rollers, which are around $20 on Amazon.
Excellent and thorough overview of common causes of noisy garage doors. Thank you
Thank you so much! After watching your video we were able to stop the garage door's horrible screeching!! I am so happy.
Just wanna say a big thanks.. I changed my rollers and greased everything and there is little to no noise !
What can go wrong? A very straightforward fix. Excellent tutorial.
Thanks AdamDIY for the practical, and quite helpful vid. I know that sometimes making videos can be difficult when you're trying to point out specific things with your hands, etc. Oh, and I like the background house music!
Yes, helpful. Especially the one about tightening the chain.
THANK YOU!!!!!! I fixed a horrendous noise in the garage door, when was opening like the first 2-3 feet by tightening the chain. You are the best!!!

Well presented. Very clear and easy to follow, thanks.

Question? Will not the rubber washers impact the vertical alignment of the Chain track?
I can't wait to listen closer to my garage door and follow your recommendations. thanks for posting it.
All these tips actually work. Great sound effects by Adam 😂
Appreciate the education 🙏. I will now go do as you've taught me.

Sometimes the canned spray lithium sprays out more thinner than actual grease so make sure you're actually getting a usable amount.
I totally agree that bushing should be part of standard installation parts for a chain drive opener, I just installed a a chain drive one on my garage below my kitchen, it was so loud noise dry me nuts , definite ly need a rubber grommet d
I also had a hard time finding those rubber pieces under "rubber bushings" but I found them under "rubber grommets". I hope this helps.
Never mind. I was able to fix on my own. Thank you for your time
Hi so could you please provide information about the bushings you put under the main structure? Thanks for the video very helpful.
My Chamberlain MyQ makes a lot of noise I lubricated the hinges and it definitely improved the noise fluency
excellent; covered all treatable sources of noise.
nice informative video! if i go about adding the bushing to the ceiling, what do i need to pay attention to? Do i just unbolt them and add the bushing?
Helpful video. Loved the sound effects.

Thanks for the Tips @AdamDIY. This novice will certainly give them a try on our Liftmaster
Thank you for posting this. Excellent video and helped me diagnose and properly fix my garage door squeaking noise !!!!! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Thanks for this video. The bushings were what solved the problem for me.
How thick the bushing rubber should be
Another issue might be that the bolt connecting the garage opener to the metal mounting bracket is loose. I just fixed an awful vibration noise coming from my own garage opener. I noticed that the loud noise would go away if I put my hand on the unit. So fix the vibration, I just tighten the bolt that connects the garage opener to the metal bracket and the loud vibration noise stopped.
Very helpful! I'll listen carefully to decide what's wrong (with my neighbor's garage door, who asked me to help find the problem)!

Will it be safe to unscrew and re-screw onto the same location?
I did a few of these before even watching this and found loose joint and connections in addition to them needing lubrication. It’s not silent (they never are) but it’s back to sounding like a normal garage door again.
When you said "lube with WD-40 " I was like "Whaaat?" But yeah Lithium base lube is good!
How about a knocking noise because the spring tensioner and metal bar is a little warped?
What would make the garage door make a load popping like noise when you 1st go to open it
My garage door motor is making a humming noise, everything else works fine opening and closing normally, it is a Genie ReliaG 650, Model 1028, any tips you can offer? Thanks!
Thank you. This video was very helpful. I think that my problem is the misaligned track. The symptoms fit perfectly. Will try realigning in the morning.
You might want to also mention quiet sleeves for the rollers
Great video. I would just add that you might need to adjust the torque for open/close as you do some of the tweaks...
Do you oil any part of the actual motor?
we leave in a city here temperatures go beyond freezing esp at night and early morning .we have snow all winter at least 6 months . during winter my garage door sticks , does not open in morning . when warmed up it works smooth . please help me fix this . it sticks more in the mechanism I guess . one light sensory is GREEN AND other is YELLOW ? does that signify some thing . thanks .
Great video! Very thankful for professionals like you sharing your knowledge!
my garage opener works but gives the grinding loud noise for the last 1 year!! going to try these tips and will come back!
Thanks. How and where to get bushes? What made of?
Mine was so sticky it ripped the control arm off the door. I will use your advise to adjust and reinstall the arm. thx for awesome video!
Thank you so much for posting this helpful video!
Excellent video!!
Hit all points of contact with WD-40.
Yes, on the side pulleys.
Yes, on the main chain.
Yes, on the side track.
Yes, on the wheel pins.
Yes, between every panel.
Yes, on main upper spring.
Yes, you're welcome.
Yes, you're not right.
Good series of tips!!
Nice details on different spots. Thx
so can u use a energy suspension sway bar link bushings they last 🤔🤔🤔🤔🍿🍿🍿😀🤔😀🤔😀🤔🤔🤔
Thanks for your excellent video.

but don't use regular WD-40.
My garage door is making a loud popping noise? What do I need to do ?
Very good video. Thank you
does this only fix his one or can it fix centerinium garage box noises??
what if there is dents on the door will that affect it ?
Very helpful. Thanks.
How about mount it with the air or marshmallow suspension system from a cloud 9 Junker ?
where did you get those rubber washers? I can't find anything close to that
Just type in "rubber bushing" in ebay and you will see a ton.
Jesus Escobar They are called rubber grommets.
Super helpful, thank you!
Great video. Thanks!
great tips. I did them all on my screw-drive Genie and it's much quieter.
Great Video helped me out a lot
I lubricated the rollers last week and they're making a clickity clack noise again ☹️
No regular wd 40
I might have missed it but I never heard the garage door open or close....?
Can you show where is the busing case
Not a bad idea however if the rubber grommets do not go through the angle and the mounting lag touches the angle then all that work is for not.
INFORMATIVE VIDEO...Thanks
My garage door chain will start to move towards the garage and after a couple inches it will back track and start beeping and lights start flashing
Very good ‘splainer’ video. One suggestion, music always gets in the way.
I actually really like this background music for some reason lol
Also if replacing track wheels get 8 nylon wheels and 2 steel wheels. Made a huge difference in sound
Why the two steel wheels? Off subject, but on my door at least, cannot deal with top and bottom rollers because they are under tension or a special metal cover over the connection.
Thanks a lot mate.
Helpful. Thanks
Thanks for great info. Difficult to hear with the competing music.
Great video!
Thank you sir
Good video
What is the music called
i dont think the background music was a problem, the volum was just fine.
Lubed the coil springs and the clunk, clunk, clunk is gone. Thanks.
Good stuff thanks
It is impossible to have anything flexible to be perfectly horizontal under tension. Don’t even try it, you will damage any supporting structure.
I tried this and does not resolve the noise
Thanks. Very informative and useful.
Bolts are too tight mounting to the ceiling. Need to allow the rubber to have some give to work.
I.e. not too over tight it after put the bushings in between, right ?
This is probably a stupid question, but how did you put those rubber gourmets on? Did the unit not "fall" from the ceiling?
Jason Chalanick ,1 side at a time.
LOL :) not stupid questions :) Ever seen Home Improvement with Tim Allen? :) somewhere there is somebody who saws holes in the ceiling....saws off the end of the bolts and has the thing crash on their head because they didn't stop to ask a question :)
"gourmets"?
This is not about cooking...
excellent thanks
Don't use regular WD-40. It is not a lube. Silicone is best because it doesn't attract dirt like grease.
Lubrication is great but please don't mess with the track people leave it to a professional door tech..... These things can be dangerous if you mess with the way it was put in and also that door needs a metal plate called and operator mounting plate to reinforce the door from top of top section. INFORMATIVE VIDEO BUT PLEASE...CAN THE MUSIC
Dang music! :) LOL... I often wonder why people put music on an instructional video...especially when the video has spoken instructions :)
He's an old guy and doesn't know better...you might be his age someday so be kind!
It is about some 70's porn music, lol
Can the music... what?
