  • Lions are the apex predators of Africa for a reason and this was just another showcase of why.
During a fairly dry season ( 2015 ) the Buffalo bulls had to make daily trips to specific points in the Sand River.
This became an almost given sentence for these Buffalo, after a few weeks the prides figured out that the buffalo had no choice but to use these water sources and their hunting tactics changed from being stealthy ambush predators to sitting and waiting for their next victim.
Now this made for some exciting game viewing and we knew that there were always the potential that guests would have a good chance to see a hunt.
The Mhangene pride at the time was at their peak 17 Lions strong and formidable hunters, but dont let these buffalo fool you its not always as easy as it might seem.
Truly a memorable moment I will never forget and a sighting I often still talk about around a camp fire when the opportunity arise.
