Lion and Buffalo stand-off in Addo Elephant Park

- While I was guiding clients for a safari company we visited the Addo Elephant Park in South Africa. We followed two lionesses into a clearing and watched them confronting a herd of buffalo. I manage to take this video from the vehicle.
These two lionesses are expert hunters, no doubt about it. They're trying to confuse the herd and separate a member, trying to lure one out if possible. People are saying buffalos are being dumb but actually they're doing a good job by keeping their distance and not charging all out, because it's exactly what the cats are trying to make them do. A charging herd can create a stampede and expose the vulnerable young and weak members. When lions decide to hunt buffalos, they're ready to face the buffalo's aggression. Buffalos have learned it for generations what is the better option against predators, and running is always the better option for them.
I love how the eland's like, "I'm outta here" 😂

The buffalo need to start luring the lions into the middle of the herd so they can circle around and trap them. Do the classic war tactic of letting the middle retreat and then close the flanks around them.

It's odd that they didn't target the solo Giant Eland, and instead opted to try isolating an individual amongst the herd of Cape Buffalo.

He’s too far away to catch. Despite their size they are pretty fast
Elands are faster than buffalos and once they start running, they don't stop to fight back, also great jumpers. Besides it was far enough and spotted the lioness already. There's no way she would've gotten it. Elands have a low predation rate compared to most other herbivores of Africa, they're very cautious.

Well it's about time that the Buffalo learn, that they are stronger together. Because it could be a 100 lions, but as long the Buffalo stick together the Lion has NO CHANCE. The Buffalo is stronger than the Lion.

Great way to singlehandedly wreck the balance of an already likely ailing ecosystem. Lion population is already in a rapid decline. But sure kill them off and allow herbivores to over populate, decimate all the vegetation and throw the environment into even more chaos 😅. Not a good idea, just let nature be nature, there have already been more than enough idiots out there trying to play God. It’s what’s gotten this planet into the mess it is now. The lions are just trying survive as much as the buffalo, or even us. They don’t have the convenience of ordering Hello Fresh, or a vegan option from Subway.
I love buffaloes. They are my spiritual animal. It’s fine for lions to eat then cause make them thrive. Otherwise they wouldn’t be enough pastures for them.

Thats a Bull Eland, Africa's largest antelope +/- 900kg, almost 2m in height, so its 'The GOAT' of antelope, but its no mere goat !
That fucker is even larger than bufalos, but those antelopes lack the aggressiveness of bufalos.
@@johnnydebeer9409 that one was a small eland. I don't think it's more than 500 kg. 900 kg elands are much taller are rarer.
@@healthinspector4827 elands live in smaller herd and they're very cautious about predators, very hard to stalk. Elands have a low predation rate compared to other most land animals of Africa, along with Hippotragine antelopes.
@@shafqatishan437 thats a full sized adult Cape Eland Bull with a well development dewlap and will be on the upper scale that average around 500-700kg depending on age and condition. Last one we weighed was a 5 year old at 720kg and 350 kg slaughter weight.
