Detailed description: 0:00 - Game Load 0:06 - Esthar The party resumes at the save station along the outer skyway in the southwest of the City of Esthar. The current lineup is Quistis, Squall, and Selphie. Quistis has the GFs Brothers, Carbuncle, Leviathan, and Tonberry junctioned; Squall has Quezacotl, Ifrit, Cerberus, and Alexander; and Selphie has Shiva, Siren, Diablos, and Pandemona. The party earns a SeeD Level 10 salary of 8,000 gil. After saving and reloading, the party takes advantage of an NPC by the save point to manipulate the Triple Triad rules in the Esthar Region (1:58). Esthar starts with the Elemental and Same Wall rules in effect. Thankfully, Random is not here. The party spreads the Open rule to Esthar. Elemental is only a minor annoyance, and Same Wall is barely relevant without Same in effect. Afterwards, the party heads northwest to the area outside the Airstation in the west of the city (2:46). They talk to a Presidential Aide here. The aide does not say much that is interesting, but talking to him triggers the appearance of an item back at the Presidential Palace. The western path leads to the Airstation (3:14). For now, the Airstation is closed. However, the Sentry has a few dialogue sequences available. Back at the outer skyway, the party follows the path north (4:26). They reach a three-way intersection. If they talk to the dog, it will return to its owner. The party continues northeast along the outer skyway (5:06). They reach an intersection with the northern end of the western inner skyway. The party continues east along the outer skyway (5:45). They reach the skyway just outside the Presidential Palace. The Palace Sentries here have useful directions. There is a probably useless Blizzard draw point outside the palace. The party goes north to the Presidential Palace exterior (7:25). They ride the lifter - the circular lift - into the palace. 7:36 - Esthar - Presidential Palace After an FMV, the party arrives inside the palace. They go west to the hallway outside the waiting room where they met Dr. Odine (8:06). After talking to the Presidential Aide near the Airstation, the party finds a Presidential Secretary outside the waiting room (8:13). After the secretary moves, the party examines the stack of books and obtains "Occult Fan IV" (8:25). This is the last of the Occult series. The party reads it. Interesting picture above the door to the waiting room. Why would a rustic landscape of Winhill be on display in the Presidential Palace? The party enters the waiting room (9:06). Within, they challenge Dr. Odine to Triple Triad (9:19). After a game, the party acquires the Ward card from Odine (10:34). The Ward card can be Card Modded into 3 Gaea's Rings. Back out in the hallway, the party goes west (11:09). They continue west down the hallway (11:17). Unfortunately, they cannot continue through the door at the end of this hallway. The party returns to the entrance and rides the lifter out of the palace. 11:53 - Esthar After the FMV, the party heads south to the outer skyway (12:20). They follow the outer skyway east (12:28). They reach the intersection with the eastern inner skyway. The party earns a SeeD Level 10 salary of 8,000 gil. The party follows the northeast path to the northeast part of the outer skyway (13:42). They reach an intersection with the lower east-west skyway. There is a Middle-Aged Soldier here with information about a few topics. The party follows the crossing skyway to the west (16:26). They reach where the eastern inner skyway is passing over this east-west skyway. An NPC here is waiting for someone, and I think I see the person they are waiting for. The party continues west (16:44). They reach this skyway's intersection with the western inner skyway. The party follows the inner skyway south (16:57). They reach the intersection with the outer skyway outside Odine's Laboratory in the south/southwest of the city. Talking to the soldier on the left provokes an uncharitable thought from our protagonist. Following the path southwest, the party reaches the exterior of Odine's Laboratory (17:38). There is a Quake draw point outside. The Research Assistant will not let the party enter. Back at the outer skyway, the party follows the outer skyway east (18:07). They reach the south-central part of the skyway. The party continues east (18:38). They reach the southern intersection of the outer skyway with the eastern inner skyway. The city's exit is to the southeast. The party goes north along the eastern inner skyway (19:21). They reach this skyway's intersection with the higher east-west skyway. There is a Curaga draw point on the higher skyway. The party follows the inner skyway north (20:09). They reach its overpass over the lower east-west skyway. Talking to the NPC here provokes an amusing event, and the NPC moves off. The party goes north to this skyway's northern intersection with the outer skyway (20:34). They turn northeast to the northeast part of the outer skyway (21:00). Then, they go west along the lower east-west skyway (21:10). It looks like the two NPCs have finally met. The party backtracks east (21:23). Then, they follow the outer skyway south (21:31). Looks like this part of the outer skyway is under maintenance. Just be careful. As a London tour guide once told me, traffic cones multiply. The party earns a SeeD Level 9 salary of 7,000 gil. Oh my, a demotion? That's about to become quite irrelevant. The party continues south along the outer skyway (22:58). They reach the Shopping Mall. There is a Tornado draw point in the southwest. About two discs late, but thanks, game. The party approaches a terminal (23:49). All the shops in this mall are available through terminals, and four of them will become available through GF Tonberry's Call Shop ability once visited. Nifty. Also, four of the shops provide one-time gifts to visitors at random. The party first checks Rinrin's Store, the Esthar Pet Shop. They pick up a few Amnesia Greens while they are here. They also buy "Pet Pals Vol.5" and "Pet Pals Vol.6". Rinrin's Store does not have gifts for visitors. The party leaves the shop and reads the new magazines. "Pet Pals Vol.5" enables Rinoa and Angelo to learn the incomparable ability Angelo Search. With this, Angelo will find items while the party is fighting. "Pet Pals Vol.6" enables Rinoa and Angelo to learn the Combine ability "Wishing Star". The party gets Rinoa and Angelo started learning Angelo Search right away. The party returns to the shops (25:23). Next, they visit Cloud's Shop, the Esthar Shop. This sells basic restoratives and a decent assortment of ammo for Irvine. Repeatedly visiting Cloud's Shop, the party will eventually earn a couple of one-time gifts: a Hi-Potion and an X-Potion. Then, the party visits Johnny's Shop (26:17). This shop does not always open, so keep trying. It is the "Esthar Shop!!!", which has an excellent assortment of healing items. With GF Tonberry's Haggle ability, the stock even includes Elixirs! Repeatedly visiting Johnny's Shop, the party will eventually earn a couple of one-time gifts: a Hi-Potion and a Mega-Potion. Next, the party visits Don Juan's Shop (27:17). This is the Esthar Junk Shop, which will not appear on GF Tonberry's Call Shop list. There are no gifts for visiting this shop. Afterwards, the party visits Karen's Store (27:42). This is the Esthar Book Store. With Haggle, this shop sells all the Weapons Monthly magazines, several Combat King issues, the first two Pet Pals, and the first two Occult Fans. At this point, my party only lacks "Combat King 004" and "Combat King 005", which can be acquired for free later. Repeatedly visiting Karen's Store, the party will eventually earn a couple of one-time gifts: a Hi-Potion and a Mega Phoenix. Finally, the party tries to visit Cheryl's Store (28:45). This shop is never open. However, by repeatedly visiting it, the party eventually earns a Rosetta Stone, which teaches Abilityx4 to a GF. Fantastic! By visiting these shops now, the party will have the Esthar Shop, the Esthar Pet Shop, the Esthar Book Store, and most importantly the "Esthar Shop!!!" available through GF Tonberry's Call Shop at any time. The party heads south out of the Shopping Mall (29:59). They reach the zone near the city's exit. The party rides the lifter (30:08). They head towards the Presidential Palace. At the Inner Skyway stop, they keep going. They disembark from the lifter east of the palace. The party goes west to the outer skyway screen in front of the Presidential Palace (30:45). They continue west to the outer skyway's intersection with the western inner skyway (30:52). The party keeps going northwest along the outer skyway (31:05). They now turn east along the upper east-west skyway (31:21). They meet an NPC with an opinion of Esthar's fashion sense. The party continues east (31:59). They reach this skyway's overpass over the western inner skyway and the lower east-west skyway. The party talks to an Esthar Soldier here (32:06). The soldier does not say anything especially interesting, but talking to him will allow the party to get "Combat King 004" for free later. The party continues east (32:20). An NPC here remarks that this is the center of the capital. The party keeps going east (33:57). They reach this skyway's end at the eastern inner skyway. The party goes southeast to the intersection with the outer skyway (34:14). The description is continued in a reply.
Description continuation: An event takes place as the party approaches the city exit (34:28). Yes, quite a place. The party reaches the city's exit elevator. They can step onto the elevator and exit on foot. The party uses the terminal near the platform (34:56). They rent a car for 3,500 gil. The platform takes them out of the city at last. 35:20 - Esthar Region The party gains control on the elevated highway of the Esthar City area. They follow the highways east until they reach solid ground. They disembark from their car and save. Then, they board their car and continue northeast. They will take a brief tour of the region. In the north-central part of the Esthar Region, they find the Lunatic Pandora Laboratory. 36:25 - Lunatic Pandora Laboratory The party checks out the exterior and interior of the lab. There is a Death draw point outside, but otherwise, there is little to do here. The party cannot even go down to the lower level of the lab. The party leaves the laboratory. 37:54 - Esthar Region The party continues their tour. The party earns a SeeD Level 9 salary of 7,000 gil. South of the Lunatic Pandora Lab, they find the Esthar Sorceress Memorial. 38:11 - Esthar Sorceress Memorial The party checks out the exterior of the memorial. Upstairs, there is a Stop draw point near the building entrance. However, there is nothing else the party can do for now. The party leaves the memorial. 38:59 - Esthar Region The party continues east. For now, they bypass the Lunar Gate in the east. In the southeast of the Esthar Region, the party finds Tears' Point in the Abadan Plains. 39:21 - Tears' Point The party starts in the outer periphery of this strange area. They follow the path ahead to the second screen (39:34). There is a Life draw point. The party continues forward to the base of a strange collection of statues (39:58). At the feet of the nearest statue, they find a Reflect draw point. More importantly, the party also finds the Solomon Ring (40:12). When used, this item will unlock a new GF, but the party needs other items first: 6 Remedy+s, 6 Steel Pipes, and 6 Malboro Tentacles. The party calls the Esthar Shop and buys 60 Remedies. With GF Alexander's Med LV Up, they refine these 60 Remedies into 6 Remedy+s. Then, they Card Mod 6 Elastoid cards into 6 Steel Pipes. Steel Pipes can also be mugged from Wendigos in the forest north of Timber and east of Galbadia Garden's original location, where the party had the second Laguna dream. The party also Card Mods 24 Malboro cards into 6 Malboro Tentacles. Malboro Tentacles can also be dropped from Malboros in Grandidi Forest near the Chocobo Sanctuary. The party must take a Chocobo from the Roaming Forest to get there. Of course, Malboros as always love to inflict debilitating status ailments with Bad Breath, so stocking up on Malboro cards is probably more pleasant. Once the party has refined the requisite items, they use the Solomon Ring (41:56). They obtain the GF Doomtrain. The player earns the achievement "Doomtrain" for unlocking Guardian Force Doomtrain. GF Doomtrain joins at Level 28. It has Elem-Atk-J and ST-Atk-J to start with, and it has Elem-Defx4 and ST-Def-Jx4 ready to learn. It also starts with Junk Shop, which calls a Junk Shop from the menu. Not to mention, summoning Doomtrain can inflict a bunch of status ailments to enemies. Doomtrain starts learning Forbid Med-RF, which allows it to refine Forbidden Medicine from an item. Quistis junctions GF Doomtrain. The party leaves Tears' Point. 43:46 - Esthar Region The party disembarks outside Lunar Gate in the Great Plains of Esthar and saves. The party closes out with some refinement. First, they take advantage of the "Esthar Shop!!!" for an infinite gil trick. GF Tonberry's Haggle and Sell-High abilities will improve the gil yield. The party buys all the Tents and Cottages they can. Then, they use Recov Med-RF to refine these Tents and Cottages into Mega-Potions. They sell the Mega-Potions to a shop for profit. Afterwards, they repeat. They see a massive profit very quickly. As far as infinite money tricks go, this is one of the fastest I've ever seen. I would recommend keeping a stack of Mega-Potions in inventory in case you need to use the infinite gil trick again. Then, the party maxes out their supply of Elixirs. With Med LV Up, they refine these 100 Elixirs into 10 Megalixirs. Yes, you can essentially BUY Megalixirs in this game with the right abilities! Unreal. Now, the party will refine Aura spells. At the Esthar Pet Shop, they buy 30 Power Wrists. They have an Aura Stone, so they use Supt Mag-RF to refine it to an Aura spell for Squall. With Tool-RF, the party refines 10 Power Wrists into a stack of 100 Aura Stones. With Supt Mag-RF, they refine the Aura Stones into a full set of Aura spells for Squall. Then, they give Selphie some Aura spells. They repeat until everyone in the lineup has a full stack of Aura spells. Everyone in the lineup exchanges their Scan spells to a character in reserve. The party also buys a Giant's Ring, a Force Armlet, and a Hypno Crown from the Esthar Pet Shop. Supt Mag-RF can refine a Giant's Ring into 60 Protect spells. The party saves again. Next time, they will enter Lunar Gate and find out how they will reach Ellone. Thanks for watching!
