*I absolutely love this thing for cleaning all flooring surfaces **MyBest.Tools** even does a great job on throw rugs. Highly recommend! Cuts cleaning time in half!*
Nice review on what seems like a very nice product. The place where Roomba lost my sale was at the bags. They’re wasteful and only fill landfills. In addition to the extra cost of having to buy replacement bags. I’ve owned bagless Dyson vacuums for years and have never had a problem with dust or debris escaping the dust chamber.
postbreak My issue is that the bags are far too small and contain excess plastics which is totally unnecessary for a proper seal. These seem designed to maximize recurring revenue without regard for the impact on the environment. A larger bag utilizing a cardboard attachment mechanism would have reduced waste, but wouldn't generate the recurring income. 30 fill capacity is VERY small considering the small onboard bins these vacuums have.
How the hell are you going to empty those bags? wtf? Cut a whole in the bottom or use a spoon to scoop the dirt out? Maybe use centrifugal force and twirl like a ballerina to spin the dirt out. What a dumb comment.
Your video was so helpful to me! I had ordered this vacuum and today when I knew it would be coming, I watched your video and downloaded the irobot app as you suggested. Technik122EU and karcher made self emptying robots before Samsung. The technology isn’t very new, but not particularly popular among robot vacuum manufacturers...
Doug Garet except Samsung is not early on the market at all... there self emptying bots have been on the market for at lest 4 years. If I remember correctly they never sold the self emptying Samsung robots in the USA, and they didn’t seem very popular when compared to the non auto emptying Samsung models at the time. With there newest Samsung robot vacuums they removed the self emptying feature completely, probably due to poor sales. Most of the robots vacs with auto emptying worked fine, but for whatever reason they weren’t particularly popular with consumers.

I'd be interested to see if it does better on a larger variety of surfaces. My 980 has a hard time with a couple of things in my house: I have a super shaggy carpet that my 980 refuses to clean; a threshold that it occasionally gets stuck on thinking it's a cliff; ikea bernhard chairs that it likes to get tangled up in. It looks like the robot has edges that are more beveled and they are making lots of improvements to the software so 🤞
I got my I-7+ yesterday but haven’t unboxed it yet. Watching this video was great & gave me a good understanding of how this thing works so I really appreciate you sharing this video. I am a bit concerned though cause I see you had to use WiFi to set this up. I don’t have WiFi in the house anymore & im wondering if it will work off my phones cellar signal. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
And the i9 will have a bigger faster spinning 4 pole brushless dc suction motor inside the robot itself, dirt sensors, and an emergency cleaning mode so if you spilt cereal, coffee grounds, flour, etc. You select the room on the app and pick the approximate area of the room. Then the iRobot i9 goes to the mess you have made, then the suction motor spins at maximum speed and sounds just like the clean base suction motor, and cleans up the powder or dry food product you have spilt in as many passes as needed until the mess is gone and the suction motor slows down to normal speed and does a courtesy pass, and goes back to the charging dock. Also in normal cleaning, the suction motor spins slower when there is less dust and spins faster when there is more dust.
This was extremely helpful to me as I consider myself technologically inept. :-) I was nervous about the initial setup; now looking forward to putting everything together.
What is the volume of the bag to the dust bin? Does the vacuum Compress the dirt? My 980 fills the bin completely every time I run it. I am skeptical about running 30 cycles per bag. Thus you might be purchasing a lot of bags. I suppose it’s more like 10 cycles before you replace bag. Thus one bag per week?? We need a real world test of this.
Wow, this thing is huge! I have a 980 that does my whole house a really great job but... I have to clean it after it has done its job twice. Not so much of automation I am expecting. This could be part of the solution but not the answer (The ANSWER is being fully automated. #ROBOTCRISIS ). And so I am new to this channel, the intro makes me think the narrative is about to went into a coma due to hard time breathing... then watching through the video I realized it is just his natural (somewhat nervous?) voice. Anyway, great video, great content. Keep it going.
The bumper has nothing to do with VSLAM technology.... the camera allows it to use vslam. You can’t have vslam without that camera. The bumper is a bumper that just tells it when it’s hitting something. Plus it has infrared sensors that judge distance from an object so it doesn’t hit it full speed, it also used to trigger wall fallowing. Don’t think they need it for wall following anymore, but it doesn’t need them for navigation.
If the big extra bin holds up to 30 times cleaning but the filter is full after 3 times there is no big advantage of the bin. :/ So I won't buy one before I've seen tests belonging to this thoughts. Currently using the 960 (same filter and bin like 980) and I have to clean the bin every time or at least every second time and the filter needs to be cleaned about every 4th time. (Cleaning two times a week about 110 square meters.)
That bag seems quit small and they usually don't contain much (same bag used in some manual vacuum). Also I don't understand why no virtual wall can be define when every competitor robot offer this option.

iRobot should name their robot vacuums by Intel’s naming scheme. Next one should be the i9 😆
Brandon Yeo how is that virginity treating you?
Funny they did. The next one is call s9
great review....I have a old version....like the self cleaning...
I hate that I have to watch commercials to watch a commercial.
Great detailed explanation!
I would love to have a IPhone Xs, I have been with an IPhone 5 for the last 5 years. I love the features of the X models
Nice vid. Love the roomba
Can you use it without a bag and just empty the base when it’s full ?
thank you for your video , i was about to buy Xiaomi but definitely i will buy Irobot
Thanks for making this review! I been thinking about getting one. Your review was very helpful.
This was extremely helpful to me as I consider myself technologically inept. :-) I was nervous about the initial setup; now looking forward to putting everything together.
I don't see the i7+ review you promised after using for a few weeks. Looking for it.
Fantastic video thanks for the info!
What a shame that such a nice review was constantly interrupted by loud commercials.
This would be even cooler if it had the ability to connect to my central vac system to empty itself!
Great review in details!
The new Xs is the best phone yet?
This is so cool. The iPhone Xs is also cool. I have an iPhone and want to upgrade to this phone, so I would like it if it is possible.
When will you do the more in depth review
Great video, also eager to see the iphone xs giveaway :)
They are still using those virtual wall? Is it still not possible to defined zone on a map?
If the big extra bin holds up to 30 times cleaning but the filter is full after 3 times there is no big advantage of the bin. :/
So I won't buy one before I've seen tests belonging to this thoughts.
Currently using the 960 (same filter and bin like 980) and I have to clean the bin every time or at least every second time and the filter needs to be cleaned about every 4th time. (Cleaning two times a week about 110 square meters.)
AlCapone333 I don’t believe the 30 number. Bet it’s more like 10 so you would be buying a bag per week...
That bag seems quit small and they usually don't contain much (same bag used in some manual vacuum).
Also I don't understand why no virtual wall can be define when every competitor robot offer this option.
Very well done review!
Realy awsome product..
Thank you for sharing. Could you do also for Iromba J7 plus?
