Sounded like like a top class guy, interesting to see if there is anyone else or a list of people who are respected by both sets of teams in the same city
This hits home, actually on point. Derek Dooley is My grandads Cousin and I believe he would of been a world class player if he didn’t get gang green, He also has a monument outside the Sheffield church, proud to say he’s related to me in some sort of way
Wow what a story! I had no idea he played for team (Lincoln City). Great stuff again lads! Small note: pretty sure we weren’t an amateur side, he was just on an amateur contracts
He was so much a Wednesdayite that he found it hard to put on a Lincoln shirt because their red and white stripes were the same as United's, or so the story goes
Saw him once. Before a game at Bramall Lane, saw a man in a suit walking across the pitch with a limp. Even though I am from Sheffield, my first knowledge of him was from reading Arthur Hopcraft's book "The Football Man", a book though dated is well worth reading. I recently reread it downloading it onto my Kindle
He was an absolute gent, and is practically the only person respected by both sides of the Sheffield footballing divide. A section of the ring road is also named in his honour 👍🏻
It would make a good series, to feature players whose careers were cut short. Adrian Doherty is the main one who comes to mind. Described as being better than Giggs, but suffering the misfortune of a snapped cruciate before his United debut and again on his return match. Sadly, it wasn't only his career that ended prematurely, as he died following a fall in Amsterdam in the year 2000, a day before he would have turned 27.
Wow, pretty amazing. Anyone who can unite the red and blue halves of a footballing city - they tend to be rather stuck in their ways in that sense - must be something very special indeed. I doubt that there can be many of them. In fact, are there any? I don't think Dennis Law quite had the same effect after he back heeled his famous goal into the United net. But other than him I am struggling to come up with a name. Suggestions? Well done, great video.
Hello Tifo! Love your content, love your style, keep going like that! I wanna make a wish. I would like to see a video about the Legendary coach for Turkish Football, Fatih Terim. His accomplishments like 2000 Uefa Cup, Euro 2008, CL12/13, his local success like winning the leage title 8 times out of 10, and his Italian adventure! Would be a great video to watch.
Sunderland fan 80YO and that was the era of twenty quid a week footballers going down to twelve in the close season. About that time Wednesday had been known as the yo-yo club as they were forever being promoted then relegated season after season.
Hey guys, listening to this story, another player comes to mind: Duncan Edwards. I‘m sure he‘s already on your list. It would be amazing to have a brief history of his!
A figure in town (sorry this is a Sheffield lad talking here) who was lived by both fans and gave united a voice for the fans when it was needed. If he hadn't been messed around with in the early 90s united would have stayed in the premier League as he would have had a vote to stop the sale of Brian Deane.
we live in one of the best countries in the world. you ask someone in north africa or the phillipines how their life is, then you will realise how lucky us brits are.
@@Writeous0ne Yes, the working class is some other countries has it worse than the British. It's almost as if some European countries colonized those unlucky countries, extracted their wealth and resources to enrich themselves and purposefully left them poor, severely lacking in infrastructure and politically unstable. But Britain didn't do that, right?
@@ramshacklealex7772 what's that got to do with our country being one of the best countries to live in though? you're just changing the subject because you said something stupid. also, most african countries lack water because of the climate they live in. britain has a great climate for agriculture, zero natural disasters, almost like our ancestors chose a great place to live ;)
@@Writeous0ne I wasn't changing the subject at all. In my original comment, I aknowledged a similarity between the lack of social mobility in that period and a lack of social mobility in contemporary society (not making reference to the UK at all). And you responded that a) Britain is great and b) implied that post-colonial "3rd world" countries are bad. So, either your comment was completely a propros to nothing, or you were trying to make the implicit argument that "we" have it so much better in Britain, so we should just accept a calcified social structure. So I explained to you why the working class in Britain has it better than in some other countries; it has nothing to do with the inherent superiority of British society, and neither does the British working class owe anything to those in positions of power for it.
@@ramshacklealex7772 no no no you were inferring that today in britain we have it bad, when it's totally the opposite! we have it great! and only a small whiney proportion of our country thinks differently, probably due to their own laziness and self interest.
I know it might be irrelevant but is there any chance you could do a vid on what goes on when f.a say they're "investigating an incident" always wondered what the process is and whether there is like a mini court or something

Covering stories that aren't traditionally known around the entire football globe is Tifo's specialty - and they do it pretty well!
LPR Geddes you commented this twice.
Sheffield Legend, football legend. Transcends all rivalry.

Dooley is genuinely an inspiration to all footballers and fans alike. We can learn so much from a man who recieved so little!
Excellent content. Derby fan in Sheffield. I’ve walked down Derek Dooley way in Sheffield numerous times but never knew who he was.
You do now.a true true gentleman
Excellent writing and tragic storytelling.
Tifo, can you do a short story about Niccolo Galli? He was a promising footballer who potential cut short due to his early death....
It's amazing that football always manages to inspire people
These videos are what sets Tifo apart.

Apparently, from many sources, an absolute gentleman and lovely lovely bloke as well. RIP Derek
He also divides the city of Sheffield with a main road named after him in his memory called Derek Dooley Way. RIP top bloke x

This channel is superb. Beautifully presented facts.
Beautiful. Genuinely beautiful. Tifo takes top-spot again! 👍

My grandad 🤍 this is amazing
The stories not by The Athletic are always the best, the sooner they do away with that partnership the better.
That aged well
Incredible player. Hero ♥️
Man that's heartbreaking
Tifo's Brilliance 👌👌

Derek Dooley Way. One of the best streets in the city
Great man who I had the honor to know
To get to the telephone exchange Derick had to climb 4 floors of that Bakery, I worked there in 1961-3
Great story that, sounds like he was a great man.
I have his fishing tackle in my garage gave to me by a Mr Gillet his fishing buddy included red and blue hats.
Wow nice video. Never heard of him. I have now.
Bearing in mind football’s cancelled right now I’d love to see more of this type of video👌🏽
You should do one of these biographies on Robin Friday. Fascinating story of a great talent gone to waste.
