My dad was in the army in the 80s and was stationed in Germany. One day, he and his staff were in Eindhoven, either touring the city or doing maneuvers. His sergeant was a Vietnam veteran who had served in the 101st Airborne. They're at a street corner, and these two old ladies see the sergeant's "screaming eagle" patch. They immediately embrace him and start crying.
My great uncle fought at Arnhem with the British airborne forces. He never spoke about his experiences. Very subdued but he started a family tradition. Since then a member of the family has served with the UK airborne forces. All started by him 80 odd years ago
I've always been a really fanatic person of world war II, God , I am even a reenactor. I went to Holland on September 2024 (last year since I'm writing this on January 2025). I tricked my wife in order to go to Holland just saying that I wanted a vacation but actually wanted is to visit the cities of Arhnem, Oosterbeck, Driel and Njimega. I visit them all except Njimega, which prove itself to be a bridge too far. ❤❤❤best holidays ever❣️❣️
Brigadier General Gavin (Actor Ryan O Neal): What's the best way to take a bridge? Maj. Julian Cook (Actor Robert Redford): Both ends at once. Brigadier General Gavin: I'm sending two companies across the river by boat. I need a man with very special qualities to lead. Maj. Julian Cook: Go on, sir. Brigadier General Gavin: He's got to be tough enough to do it and he's got to be experienced enough to do it. Plus one more thing. He's got to be dumb enough to do it... Start getting ready. U.S. captain: What was all that about, Major? Maj. Julian Cook: Well someone's come up with a real nightmare. Real nightmare.
Operation Market Garden became a Reality. The plan, like so many plans in so many wars before it, was meant to end the fighting by Christmas, and bring the boys back home. Kate Ter Horst ( Liv Ullmann, 1977 film A Bridge Too Far)
There are only three composers of film music who managed to catch the spirit of WW II from my point of view. First among them is surely John Addison, who proved it right above. Second is Elmar Bernstein with his Great-escape-theme. Third comes John Williams with his musical illustration to Saving Private Ryan.
The three people that disliked are the grandchildren that were bored when the grandparents told them the story
Best internet comment of the day.

Fantastische muke❤ Filme mit Herz, Orchester Sound, keine scheisse aus den Rechner,
great theme tune to great film
My favourite march of all - and the most whistle-to-able (?)
I think so, too.
Music composed by John Addison, who was himself a veteran of the real life Operation Market Garden.

Market garden was a Montgomery production. If patton handled it he'd tell monty hold on to my beer keep it cold. I'll be back in a week !😅
Patton was more brilliant than Monty
Listen was a great general but he wasn't the be all end all either the guy was human and made mistakes
This or Zulu are the best war movies made
Der nach meiner Meinung immer noch beste Soundtrack, welcher jemals für einen Kriegsfilm geschrieben wurde - da kommt nicht mal das Boot mit
通すきたはしすばらしいかったですね
Nice!!!😀
1812 celebrated the defeat of the French by the Russian but Damn this is way better , I just cannot help thinking this was such a the terrible loss
Rings of power nicked this😂
My favorite World War II movie, liberation of Europe against Nazis Germany, Operation Market Garden led by Gen. Montgomery👏👍
Un gran error de Monty que fue un general muy malo.
Pésimo.
