Following the events of the Namek Saga, life returns to normal for the Earth's defenders-until the sudden reappearance of a cybernetically-enhanced Frieza bent on vengeance. Just as the Z-Fighters prepare for battle, Trunks, a mysterious Super Saiyan teen, shows up and effortlessly defeats Frieza. Upon Goku's return to Earth, Trunks unveils his identity as a time-traveler and warns of impending doom: deadly androids that will annihilate the Z-Warriors and lay waste to Earth. He adds that Goku is destined to die from a disease before the androids arrive, though he's brought a remedy to change that fate. With this, the Z-Fighters begin rigorous training to thwart this new threat, only to encounter unforeseen challenges and enemies, making this their most perilous ordeal yet.

I’ve seen people cover and breakdown the sagas and arcs of DBZ so many times, but I’ve never seen someone break down the manga version and show images. Walking you step by step through the story! Most people cover the show and the show only, which I love, but this is the way toriyama told the story. Thank you Justin! Can’t wait to see the full story completed

This arc should be edited and released as a documentary with commentary called "fumbling the bag". Because word this arc is a handbook, a legit instruction manual on how to fuck up every opportunity to win and take fat L's

Best arc in dbz, it should've ended here but the majin buu arc was decent cuz vegeta's character development and goku pushing past his limits of SSJ2

Namek saga was the best. Of course Cell saga was almost as good as Namek, but Buu saga was also amazing. GT and Super were much much worse, but still I’m happy there was a continuation even though these two were much worse :)

Wow! The manga is really different from the anime. In the anime, Gohan had to die for Trunks to break his ceiling into SuperSaiyan, but here he is in the manga, training with Gohan as a Super Saiyan

This will forever be my favorite saga of all time. When I was a kid I watched the episode where gohan turns ssj2 and that was my first experience with dbz. From there i decided to read everything from the beginning. I read and watched all of db up until now. It will forver be my favorite series of all time and these videos are absolutely phenomenal 🙏

The one thing with this is yes goku was right to plead with gohan to finish the fight. But its pretty hypocritical since he legit not only kept his strategy a secret from everyone including his own son who was totally blindsided with the call to fight, but he also is known for hiding his true strength as long as his opponent lets him.

I think the Trunks story is actually done better in the anime/TV special.
From the perspective of the Manga, I don’t understand why Gohan goes in alone without Trunks. He’s already a super Saiyan. I know they aren’t strong enough to win, but, to me, it should either be none of them or both of them going to fight.
In the anime/TV version, Gohan’s reluctance to bring Trunks to the fight makes more sense because he hasn’t become a super Saiyan yet.
It also turns Gohan’s death and sacrifice into something more significant. He doesn’t just die so Trunks can be sad, he dies and it awakens Trunks’ super Saiyan power.
This is an extremely rare case where an anime-exclusive change has 100% been the correct decision.
Question tho: did Toriyama ever write the entire Trunks story later on, or is this all of the backstory we get on Trunks?
Perfect Cell: So, my father was a brilliant scientist. I was created in his sub lab, made up of the DNA of the universes greatest warriors, for the sole purpose of killing Goku. I was meant to absorb my two cyborg siblings to obtain my perfect form, but when the son of Vegeta, a time-travler destroyed them, well I had to murder him, steal his time machine, and travel back to the past. When I arrived there, I had to wait a year in my lava form before I could finally hatch and hunt down the cyborgs upon which I became the perfection you see before you. Unfortunately I was sheep shot in a fight with Goku's crouch-spawn and went out with a literal band, and now....here I am.
Love your videos, they are the best recaps of anime arcs anyone will find, especially since you use the manga as the primary content, whihc just reminded me of something I completely forgot LOL
I remember the History of Trunks special very vividly, and remember that what sparked Trunks' SS transformation was Gohan dying. It's one of the saddest scenes in all of DBZ. I completely forgot that that isnt how it happened in the manga LOL Trunks already transformed in the manga right before thay fight that killed Gohan, thats why he wanted to go so badly to help 😳 I completely forgot this cuz i havent read the DBZ manga in a very long time, and I didn't go through all of it cover to cover. Nice to get this info again 👌🏾

Vegeta's arm has never been the same since...
No one ever talks about this. The "reason" why everyone is stronger than the alternate timeline (Hence why Cell is confused why Vegeta is stronger and why Trunks is surprised that the androids is stronger)
Is because when trunks told everyone to train for the androids, he inevitably made the androids stronger too because they were adapting to the strength of the Z-Fighterz. I know its kinda head canon to say it, but we know Cell was adapting since Frieza/King Cold, how can we say the androids werent adapting either?
Idk how you guys feel about this, maybe I'm wrong, but thats how I always saw it.
