Winds can be dangerous. I once rode my motorcycle on a multistate roadtrip. Approaching a buddy's home, he told me later I was leaning about 45° against the wind! Staying in my lane was difficult. My camping gear piled on my cargo rack didn't help. I can imagine how difficult a tall RV would be to drive in that wind!
Did the fifth wheel have an escort? You seem to have not had any problems but then I was sitting in my bed not in the van I’m ready to see the UP again
That one appeared to have an escort for a while but left to move on to the next person. My guess is once they get thru the middle where it is the worst they move on... but I'm not sure.
Yup, I'm no fan of crosswinds in my van, especially on bridges. Reducing speed for hazardous conditions is always a good tactic though. Dynamically, it gives your tires better traction on the road surface and gives you more time to react to something popping up unexpectedly. Well done!
They said to do 20 but I did 30 -35 and it wasn't bad... gladly. lol I've crossed it with worse winds and it gets your attention as do the radio messages and signs. lol
Your optical illusion had me sitting here at my desk trying to dodge oncoming cars. Your following vehicles were probably hoping to catch viral video of you toppling over in the high wind. None of the other "high risk" vehicles coming toward you had escorts.
There were a couple that I saw the escort vehicle leave and go forwaard at a certain point.. at least that is how it appeared by eye - the Gopro makes things look further away but yeah not many escorts out there. I'd crossed it where it felt worse but going faster. That radio announcement and billboards do get your attention tho. lol

I wonder where the escorts were? It didn't look like they were escorting anyone, there were travel trailers and campers on the other side without escorts. Can you imagine someone who is afraid to cross?
I saw 2 or 3 - a couple looked like they decided they had taken someone thru the worst of it and moved on to the next. But I didn't see what I expected.
No - I've been playing a game with them. about 3/4 of the time I get charged $4 and this and some other times $10 for being an "RV". Seems to depend on who is on the booth. :(

North bound there is a place to pull off right after the last exit to call the bridge authority and south bound there's a place to pull off after you pay the toll. It isn't marked in any way. Apparently you're just supposed to know!

No it really wasn't too bad - I've crossed before where I was turning into the wind more. The slower speed requirement makes a big difference.
