The reason the game feels so much more high budget is because Sam went to the office and gave them all chicken tendies which motivated them to cook.

59:48 sorry for the long-ish post, but I think a lot of people misunderstood and dogpiled this guy. They weren't throwing shade at Ian Flynn (at least it didn't look that way). More so saying, Sega already hired Maekawa in the past, and he wrote stories that fans liked. Sega changed the tone of the series in Colors, so they dropped him. But now things are back to how they were before. So why not also bring Maekawa back, is what they meant to say. I think it's a valid argument
The answer's probably that it'd be inconvenient. Flynn is actively working for Sega, and is already familiar with the new internal canon, since he's been on the comics for a long time. Maekawa might need to "catch up". Still, both writers excel in different ways; like only Flynn could've written a story like Metal Virus. But if Sega could somehow hire _both_ of them, then we'd never get a bad Sonic story again
I mean the only real bad story we got was Forces. Other ones were just a lot more simple and there's nothing wrong with that from time to time.

@@chrange9714I think it was more the characterization of the characters than the story itself that was bad. Sonic telling jokes constantly and never being serious, Tails being a coward etc is just bad writing

the thing is that i don't think you guys realize how important maekawa is to sonic's legacy. sa1, sa2, heroes, 06, unleashed, black knight and all those fan favorite games, have their stories written by him. shadow, rouge, gamma, the chaotix as they're introduced in heroes, omega, mephiles, silver, blaze (in 06), chip, sonic's characterization in satbk, it's all because of him. flynn is only really free to write whatever he wants on the comics, if you like frontiers' story you can't even fully thank him for it because sega came up with most of the story content, while he only wrote dialogue.
maekawa is the best choice for writing sonic stuff, regardless of what you think about flynn. it's just quite disappointing to see that people don't actually realize this.
the way fadel’s optimized playthrough got me so eager and excited to get my grubby sweaty sonic fan hands on this game. i feel that urge to explore every route and replay the level to get that nice smooth perfect run, a feeling i haven’t felt since the modern sonic levels in base game generations. like you said, this really does feel like the best level design since 2011. we are actually so back. (i hope i don’t have to eat my words once it releases lmaoo)
I mean I think the levels in Lost World were designed pretty well and were fun. Not on the same level as like Gens obviously but they were still good.
@@chrange9714 i agree that most of them were fine on a first playthrough, but i never felt that urge to go back and replay a level and none of them are too memorable to me. i’m sure there are people who do like to replay them, but i think what we’ve seen here already far surpasses anything in lost world.
I just went back to the last vod to see the comments you were talking about. Maybe like a few commenters were just calling you a hater. Sam, you know darn well that you love Sonic, and we know it too. I know the whole Frontiers fiasco left a mark on you, but I think it's gotten to the point where people are just going to label you whatever they label you, that's never going to change. Ignore those kinds of people and just be you. You should know that you've got an amazing community behind you, and that wouldn't exist if it weren't for the content, humor, and personality that you bring. I've loved watching these streams and connecting with everyone here. Remember, we love you, Sam! 💙

@Glitchyy07 Before Frontiers was released, IGN released some footage with new gameplay in it. Sam reacted to it and made some observations and fair, constructive criticism. But then some people just took his criticism as "nitpicking" and "negative," and a lot of people attacked and called him a hater. Sam mentioned in a livestream that that really hurt him mentally and almost made him quit. Thankfully he stayed, and now he has an even bigger community who love and supports him. 💙
I think that summarizes it, but I might've gotten a few things wrong.

I can actually answer the question you posed at the beginning of Chotopus’s video. The area Shadow is at in the beginning of the ARK stage is the orbiting satellites/debris that broke off the ARK after it burst out of the asteroid it was hidden within. Those same satellites/debris were the location of Mad Space and Meteor Herd, as well as parts of Final Rush and Crazy Gadget. It’s located on the SA2 level select map, the area where Knuckles and Rouge’s levels are located.
It’s actually really cool that they took note of where the stages actually took place… though it’s a little too far from the ARK in the wrong direction, it should be directly below the ARK closer to Earth.
I love the ARK’s model btw, it really makes that station look as imposing as it aught to be, unlike the Death Egg the ARK has a more foreboding atmosphere to it. Since we saw the Death Egg in Forces and Gens it makes sense the ARK would look similar too it.
I just hope we actually board it, even if only in a cutscene, I want to see how it looks with the current engine.

Since he doesn’t travel he teleports He can homing attack past obsctacles 21:33 so here you can homing attack through the lasers guarding that gun beetle

I think what's happening in Shadow Generations is we have a full 3D Act 1 and a full 2.5D Act 2 for every stage. The demo specifies Act 1 for Space Colony ARK, and in that there is no 2.5D AT ALL. Maybe this is how they rectify that Shadow doesn't have a "Classic" version. And when you think about it OG Gens did the same kinda, but here they take the feedback from Frontiers and elevate it.
I don't think so, I think it'll just be like some stages will be fully 3D like the first one and others will be 3D mixed with 2D sections. I don't think any stage will be fully 2D.

Definitely this game will be far better than Forces. The controls are smooth, the fairness is superb, and the level design is great. It’s definitely worthy of being with Generations, which is my favorite boost Sonic game.
I like Unleashed, but I think it’s a little overrated. The controls with Sonic when he’s not boosting are pretty stiff and slippery, and I think they went a little too far with the expectations of reflexes and reacting in time. Sonic is so fast that if you don’t know where he’s going to end up way before you end up there, you’re going to get screwed over by hazards or a bottomless pit. First-time players are going to struggle a bit in the middle of the game and be in Hell towards the end. Don’t upgrade Sonic’s speed. Also, platforming in Unleashed is pretty bad, especially after you get the air boost. Sonic doesn’t have a double jump in that game, so the homing attack is the only way to platform smoothly, but guess what the homing attack button is marked to? The boost button, so you can only platform by jumping once, and you got to make it count, otherwise you’ll die. It’s scary, awkward, slow, and annoying.
Modern Sonic in Generations is fast but not too fast to the point that first-time players wouldn’t be able to react to things in time and constantly die. Also, the reflex level design is more fair and flexible because most of the time, the game won’t punish you for not reacting in time, unlike in Unleashed. Most of the time, you’ll go down different pathways as consequences for slow reflexes. And platforming is much better because the homing attack button is not marked to the boost button.

And even then with the timer stopping whenever you use it, the level still gets up to 5-6 minutes

Just looking at how Shadow controls in the Biolizard boss fight ( His turn radius ) already clues me in that these are basically Frontier's open zone controls but with Generations level design. Not the gimped base game cyber space levels with Forces' turn radius and Frontier's Action Style slapped on. Shadow Generations seems to be very similar to Frontier's Final Horizons cyber space controls. Which is amazing because Final Horizon's cyber space keeps Sonic's open world speed and amazing control instead of making him a racecar.
Shadow Generations is gonna be a blast! I'm already LOVING how beefy the levels are. Reminds me of Heroes/Shadow/Unleashed length levels which is a welcome return to form! Space Colony Ark Act 1 gets bonus points for mixing in the outside portion of Final Rush/Final Chase with the indoor sections of Shadow's The Doom/Lost Impact. ( Very cool of them to reference the hallways where you heal the researchers in Shadow the Hedgehog. )
It’s not a big deal, but I really hope he gets to use the light dash and light speed attack since that was a huge part of his initial move set and also in Shadow’s game and 06
He does, the first clip Sam looks at in this stream is Shadow taking a secret light speed dash path. To use it though you have to build up the Chaos Control meter to full

along with a bigger budget this games also way smaller scale than frontiers, which allows the team to add extra polish and style
What if Shadow is in Rail Canyon because that's one of the moments he saw a robot version of himself? Maybe Shadow is going through moments his identity was questioned in his portion of Generations.

I'm VERY happy about this. The first level is long and is on par with some of the best generations levels, the animations and face expressions and cinematics are amazing, Shadow finally has his chaos powers back, the ost is a banger, what else do we need? I just hope Shadow is written well.
If they keep up with this quality, Sonic's future is bright
He's always been written well outside of Boom so don't know why you'd worry about that

I usually ignore other folks complaints and just go for what I like. I like that they are expanding on shadow; making him more interesting. He still has that shit voice so I'll deal with it.
Watching this vid, now I see why Sega was confident in moving to the next project.
I just hope they continue to take their time and double up on quality review, and then allow at least a half year of additional polishing after internal and external q&a

No one said you can't not be a fan of Kirk as Shadow, I literally just said he doesn't have to your favorite ofc not, but tons of others like him and he has a very good performance here like he's been having. The world doesn't cater one single view and there are many different ways to do things. Common decency can also be subjective depending on one's resolve and emotional fortitude. If he or anyone else for that matter is easily offended by one disapproving comment, they're in the wrong business. Simply put.
This is the entertainment business, to impress and wow - sell your ability to people.

For me, what I am doing is common decency, I'm not attacking him the person - I'm criticizing his voicing skills of shadow specifically - You are obviously bothered by the harshness of my opinion because you enjoy the voice that much. I have nothing against him and no nothing of him to have an issue with him but I CAN have an opinion of his voice acting skills of a character that I MYSELF like.

Not from Frontiers Sam! its not incomplete graphics. I may see what you mean but its not that. Also, this is generations. So, the actual game or real game of Adeventure 3 wouldn't have gills or green skin or bad graphics of skin or fall flat sideways of death. Although, the Biolizard is always cute to me and unique creature that needs more love than Godzilla. But I love Godzilla. Biolizard in generations is very nice but the gills and green skin. Should be moss. Which is darker powerful green. There are variations of moss in virtual graphics. That light green reminds me of vomit and the gills are too disgusting to me.
Its like seeing small enough pores that close and open slightly enough. It gives me chills of thinking of it. Because of my own on my skin did the same with circulating. That is what our skin does. But their very small. I may be wrong but that is how I feel of my skin on my body from something creepy.
Sam owns 3 copies of Shadow 05? Well I bought 4 copies of Colors Ultimate. Don't ask me why.
