I have an idea to adjust the rules slightly if you ever do another race-style Mario Party game. Whoever reaches the end should be forced to buy a star. This would cause 2 things: 1: Rubberbanding because first place doesn't get as good items. 2: A new strategy to try and reach the end with not enough coins, therefor giving you a "boost" when getting items, but dangerous because you would have no coins.
The Goomba map from Mario Party 8 is THE map for this concept. It's also linear, but the star at the end is free. It's designed specifically to be a race to the end. If you don't count the Lucky space stars and you don't have duels, you can use your star total for your Lap Counter.
Yeah I remember that one, I especially remember one that one space near the end that sends you ALL THE WAY BACK! I remember the duel version was a pain since you needed 50 coins for 1 star.
We confirmed in the comment section of that stream that it was 8, but frankly, it was kinda obvious. Vern’s chat absolutely wants Nick to lose at any cost, so the ones that were saying it was tied had more credibility than the ones who clearly had a target.

Magic lamp needs to be banned in this mode. Also disable hidden blocks (or the stars in the hidden blocks if you can). Alternatively: Count the laps, but force everyone to buy a star on top of that. The laps will be what wins you the game but the guy in the lead will be penalized by the star instead of the rando with the hidden block.
Hey. Not sure if you know, but the game actually updated today, adding a new board, minigames, items, and other options like making sure certain items are always in the shop. It's pretty neat.
