Nick's luck is like a double dice. Absurdly high highs, but it's wildly inconsistent, completely unreliable, and can screw him over by going too high.

It’s still nuts that Nick disproved two “rules” of the Hidden Block that have been well known for a couple of years only by getting one Hidden Block. That’s genuinely crazy lmao
I'm not entirely convinced the game didn't glitch. I've never seen anyone get a star with bonus stars off, nor have I ever seen someone get a star in first. Nick's luck was so great, it broke the rules of the game for him to lose.
@@Endershock1678It's funny that Nick always gets lucky at the wrong time. Remember the gimmick where you have to come in last place to win? Nick got two bonus stars and he came in "first place"

@@Endershock1678 I haven't played Mario Party in over a decade but perhaps the rule isn't that 1st place can't get a star but rather the person with the most stars can't get one. Since 1st place (Nick) had as many stars as Brent, he technically wasn't 1st place by a margin large enough that would warrant being excluded. From a competitive perspective it would be unfair if Nick was excluded from a bonus star for being 1st place by 10 coins and Brent in this case wouldn't be even if he has the same number of stars, so it makes sense that 1st place can still get a star from a hidden block if he got the same number of stars as 2nd place.
@@LewtableI mean, technically the "first place star" thing was always a myth. I have personal experience of a friend who got a star off a Hidden Block in first place twice in the same game. It's just unlikely.
What I imagine is that, like Mario Kart Wii's item roulette, there's a picker for the likelihood of each possible result a Hidden Block can possibly give (any number from 4 to 20 coins, and a Star). All 18 options are present in every Hidden Block, but your placement, and your distance from the rest of the pack, determines the percentage of each possible result. There's technically a nonzero chance of each result, because of how picker selection works, but the undesirable results can just be cranked so low as to be essentially impossible.
That, or NDCube really did use Hudson's bag of tricks.
Originally, Hudson put 2 Hidden Blocks on the board every turn, in random Blue Spaces (one containing a Star, and one containing coins). Getting one would spin that randomizer again, making it potentially possible for all four players to get the exact same Hidden Block on the exact same turn. Since the contents of each block were predetermined, your placement literally did not matter. However, later on, the Star Hidden Block is programmed to sometimes give out an item instead of a Star, if the player who found it is in first. However, it doesn't overwrite the Star, it just adds an extra layer of RNG.

Just a reminder of a mechanic.
If multiple people tie for 1st place, then a tiebreaker must occur, so there can't be total cooperation.
Some friends must be left behind for the betterment of the others.
This happened in one of there gimmicks they did live so look forward to that

Fun Fact: if you tie for first, they make you roll a dice block to decide who actually wins.
So in other words they were only able to see that screen of them being perfectly tied in the same place because Nick happened to get a hidden block. That's soo crazy.
@uonia Yep, without that Hidden Block Nick would have gotten 3rd and Brent and Vernias would have been forced to do the tiebreaker dice roll. That one Hidden Block saved the video.

It’s funny how the two who paired/teamed up together the earliest (Nick and Sophist) are the two who didn’t achieve the goal in the end.
To be fair, karma probably had it coming for them since they were the two who flip flopped on friendships the most (Sophist just being an agent of chaos, Nick betraying Vern, etc)

Interesting alternative way to do this: At the end of every turn, all players who are tied with another player get 1 "point". Keep score until the end, and whoever has the most points wins.
Optional: At the end of the game, the player in 1st place gets 2 additional points.
Also optional: At the end of the game, each player's star count is added to their score.
