- Mexico would be worth visiting even if you did nothing but eat in restaurants. However, not all of us have the time, resources, or opportunity to visit the birthplace of the taco, so we have to rely on restaurants in the United States to give us the authentic experience. "Authentic" is a tricky word, and not all of these restaurants strive for it. Instead, they opt to build upon the foundation that classical Mexican cooking laid. Others, however, do attempt to recreate the genuine Mexican experience for people who live far across the border. Either way, these are hands down the best Mexican restaurants in the US.

What is your favorite Mexican restaurant?
That was NOT Mexican food!!!
Of the ones here Xochi's
Taco Cabo in Steamboat Springs CO
We all know that the best Mexican restraunts are family owned
I am sure the restaurants mentioned serve great food. None of the restaurants in my area who say the serve "Authentic Mexican Food"serve dishes that taste anything close to the food I had in friend's homes in Mexico or the food I had in small diners in Mexico.
To be honest I haven't ate at any Mexican restaurant that wasn't the best! Mexican food is fire 🔥 💥 imo!
All of the food is full of flavor and always freshly made to order! Which I love!
Beauty is a natural gift but not everyone has the same as you, not even age can take it away from you. I must say that you are really beautiful. I just want you to know that I can travel any distance to see you and be very nice to you because you are sweet.❤️😍🥰

I knew if they didn't include one restaurant by bayless then the list would be BS. Bayless is the master in the kitchen and I use his recipes all the time
Most of the others are unknown to me, but El Charro in Tucson is a thing apart. Absolutely, unbelievably spectacular. Every time I drive down from Phoenix to visit friends, they all know a stop there is gonna be mandatory.
These are upscale snooty Mexican food. Give me a Taco truck any day. As a CA old school cops we'd eat at our office (As we referred to the hoods of our cars) and there was nothing better than the taco trucks or local mom and pop Mexican shops. There was a fantastic old lady who often call the department late at night as she thought she heard something. This became so common we just automatically began to check on her nightly. One morning at 3 AM I went to check and found her lights on so I got out to knock and make contact. She yelled come in and as I entered I was overwhelmed by the most exotic smells of Mexican cuisine. I asked what she was doing and she said XMAS was coming up and she was making tamales. As I accompanied her into the kitchen I witnessed the most stunning site. There must have been a couple of 100 tamales and she was still in progress. This lady must have been near 85-90 years old. Well, she insisted I call the other officers to come and grab a bite and of course, we did and she sent us off with a bunch for the other shifts. She explained to us she was a night owl as she had worked her whole life at night and slept in the day. That old lady was the most looked after woman in the city from that day forward.
Ah the power of an old mexican lady's tamales, tamales are older than mexico itself, so many secrets accumulated
@@JosueLopez-kk9us You said it.
I'm Mexican and really enjoyed your anecdote
Every time I go to San Antonio , Texas I go to Mi Tierra restaurant! It’s that good !
Love these ranking videos... cant wait to watch 😊
I LOVE Mexicans and MEXICAN FOOD! Bean and Cheese Burrito!
Carnitas uruapan in la Mesa CA
San Diego county has great Mexican food!
@@scottmcwave9479 San Diego native here: yes, it does. A lot of the mom-n'-pop taquerias stand out as some of the best. Two of my favorites are El Pollo Grille (NOT Loco) and Cotijas, both about a block apart on Broadway in Lemon Grove. Both inexpensive, both mouth-watering delicious.
I can just have authentic Mexican food in my house 😂
What I want to know is how in the Hell do you ONLY Have 2, Two??? Restaurants from Texas??? One in San Antonio and One in Houston! Nothing from Austin, DFW, El Paso??? PLEASE, WHAT A JOKE!!!
Dammit why did I think you meant fast casual franchise restaurants. That's what I wanted to see lol
Sometimes we get tired of authentic Old El Paso knockoffs. So we go out and splurge on authentic Taco Bell!
Riquísimo todo, y me sirve para practicar mi inglés
Se ve súper rico como hacen las tortillas caseras yo quiero ir 🎉!!
More New York restaurants on this list than Texas. I wonder if Mashed would so the same with a BBQ list.
If Mashed made a list of the best places to go for a hike, it would have eight places in New York and then finally mention Yosemite or something at the end.
Only in México!!!
Happy to see xochi on this video! Also the chimichanga was probably invented in the Mexican state of Sonora.
Loving these videos! I just wish the city/state would be included alongside the names of each restaurant in the description.
The best Northern Mexican restuarant is "Bandido's Hideout" across the street from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM.
I grew up in Houston. I’ve had both authentic Mexican cuisine AND TexMex. I see you’ve avoided all of the chain restaurants, and understandably so for such a video. However, the best Mexican and TexMex can only be found in out of the way “mom and pop” places found on nearly every corner in Houston and San Antonio. Whenever I see, as in your video, all of the dishes served up like some elite, high priced restaurant, I just walk the other way. I’d rather eat at Papasito’s in Houston, or Chevy’s in the NE.
To be honest I’m not really a fan of “authentic Mexican food” I definitely prefer Tex-Mex so I doubt I’ll ever eat at any places on this list.
the best mexican food in my country are only at par with the street stalls in the US
How is San Antonio, TX a "stones throw" from the Mexican border? I think you mean El Paso......
It is a stones throw compared to some of the other restaurants
The best Mexican food can be found in San Diego County, California. Any place else is second best or worst.
Anthony bourdain would disagree. In an interview he was asked where he would eat in San Diego and he said he would cross the border and eat in Tijuana ( forgot the name of the restaurant he recommended)

You should see Mission T's in the Denver Colorado area
So, refried beans and rice makes for "Haute cuisine"! Who knew?
The best Taqueria in Dallas is Tacaso by Community Dr and NW HWY. If you're in Carrollton go to La Tapatía on Frankford and Josey and get a platillo. You're welcome
Never even heard of Cosme
You added many from cities furthest from Mexico but not the closest and probably most authentic…EL PASO!!!! 🤦🏾♂️
you just about can't loose in TUCSON there are at least 5 places as good as EL CHARRO
Great info. Very thorough. A little hard to hear the pronunciation of mexican dishes.
Mario’s in Huntington Beach it has been there for about 50 years. It’s the simple things not the fancy dishes. When I go into a New Mexican restaurant I order a beef taco & cheese enchilada plate. Going to Mario’s you would settle for their rice by itself, their beans by itself & their Fritos Con Queso which is just chips with cheese is too die for. The cheese has the greatest pull & flavor.
I believe in the KISS method KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID & Mario’s does just that !!!😀😀😀
No san Diego spot....I'm stunned
Look very delicious 🤤 😋 I love 🌮 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
Does Mashed think anyone is actually going to believe the "best" Mexican food is found in New York, New York again, Philly, Washington DC, Chicago, Boston, New York AGAIN, New York YET AGAIN, Chicago AGAIN, New York for a FIFTH FREAKING TIME?!?
Only two places in Texas and none in New Mexico. This is a disgrace.
Even come to New Haven CT,please
🇲🇽😎👍✌️
O l love a good mexican restraunt
Great Mexican food in "New York City" or any other place outside Aztlan? Yeah, sure. 😝
Please come to ,Hamden CT
This is a slap to the to all us mexicand
What about Taco Bell?
I was wondering why Los Pollos Hermanos was not included, then remembered the "face" of that restaurant was not Mexican.
Yeah I think he also mentioned that the chicken was influenced by the food he ate in Chile.
What about Texas restaurants? I’m confused. This didn’t include any of the incredible world-renowned restaurants in our state.
You missed Mi Tierra
Xochi's is in Houston! And I'm happy since it is my favorite Mexican resturant in Houston.
GWISADOS
Last night I had homemade ground beef tacos that I made myself for the first time. It definitely beats Taco Bell. However, I cannot beat a reputable Mexican restaurant yet.
Well, it's no secret which way Mashed leans politically...
There are several types of MEXICAN places some of the higher end places all you are going to do is spend a lot of money
Meh. In the USA a place like Xochi's is the place that gets the closest to me in getting to the soul and taste of the best food I have when I'm in Mexico. Sure, it's not presented in a traditional way but the taste is the most similar to the best food I've had in Mexico. This is especially true when you want the more exotic dishes from the country. Xochi's is probably one of the few places in Houston where I can get a Tlayuda
If Obama family likes it we will too.. very smart lady you are.
Can’t believe u mentioned the “ o “s...?
Trash list, San Diego and LA left completely out of the list? Whoever made this list is getting paid by the restaurants on the list
Not a single restaurant from anywhere in New Mexico? You lose all credibility, Mashed.
If Obama ate there, I'm out....
These are NOT taquerias, therefore I could care less for them, they cost too much for the food that you can get at the stalls in each of the states mentioned that are much cheaper and serve incredibly delicious tacos ....
The best Mexican food is in the border states. Unless you go to Mexico.
I feel like some of these places are far too fancy.
First
😪 Mi Terra's is not the best Mexican restaurant in san Antonio.
fake .Los Angeles , San Antonio , Chicago have 1000's of them , plus all over California and Texas
😂
These are the best Mexican restaurant ascording to the white people and no to Mexican 🤔
Eww when she pronouns tamales tamalays..
