Change your trip to the southern region of Brazil, Florianópolis, Curitiba, Gramado, etc. Rio is taken over by mediocre migrants, generating insecurity.

In general, in Brazil I don't tend to worry much at all where I eat. The food is good, at the very minimum, pretty much everywhere. Few favourite places are Adega Portugalia on Largo do Machado and Peixe & Cia in Lapa. The latter makes the best fish and chips you can imagine. The Snoop and Farrell video could be basis for a whole Rio tour, of course. Other beautiful spots include Escadaria Selaron and The Maze.
I swear even staying 6 months in Rio is not enough to visit everything. There are so many great places to see that one would always be short of time to do everything! Thankfully, we can always come back 😉

I'm Brazilian and I live in Rio de Janeiro and the food in Rio is really good. The good news is that each Brazilian state has its own gastronomic identity and it's just as surprising as Rio.

Forgot to mention Cafe Gaucho in Centro. As far as tradition is concerned, for beer and sandwiches, it is the place to go.
