    Great video, very intructive on cleaning out the crab. Also, as far as the yellow stuff goes, you find similar stuff in lobsters except its green, my grandmother eats it, though i find it disgusting. I believe she said she calls it the "tamale" and that its basically lobster crap

    @xLostInThoughtx lol I know that this is from 2 years ago, but I just have to ask. Are lions killing a gazelle, the way they do, not lion-like; since killing crabs the way he does is "unhuman?"

    I think that if you boiled all the extra stuff you don't use you could make a really delicious crab stock, that could be the base of a soup or a chowder or something.

    Hello Vahchef.. I am big fan of your cooking. I have followed almost all your recipes. I am new to USA, So can you tell me what kind of crab you are using for making crab curry? The other I went to fish market to buy crab but could not find the right one. Can you tell me what crab should I use for making crab masala? And Can I use lobster instead of crab? And can you tell me how to do it with lobster? Thanks. Have a great day.

    @lureyourkidsinvan The reason he cleans the crab this way is because this is the way it is done in the coastal parts of South India where seafood is a huge part of the cuisine. BTW, he is also a professional chef who has cooked for President Obama (before he was the President) while he was working in a restaurant in Chicago. Just search on youtube for "Khan Biriyani". He talks about briefly about his history in the US.

    i love your videos. Thank you. Even though cleaning a crab still grosses me out...I'll probably still probably still buy the pre-cleaned ones 'cause that guts and cutting off the head kinda makes my appetite for the crab go away. Maybe one day...I'll be brave. lol :-)

    I disagree.
    He cleans the crab in the most normal way its done.
    I dont think he missed any steps, and this is a good video for learning how to do this.

    I see a bunch of you feeling upset that you have to kill the crabs in an inhumane way. Best way to do it is plan a day ahead before you cook them. 1st you gotta have them claws tied round their body. Put them in a container or a pack, ensure it's tightly closed and stuff it in the freezer overnight. That way, you don't need to get violent on them while they're still alive. If you wanna cook right away, make sure they're still tied and boil them. There's no other humane way to eat meat. :)

    while I can tell you why your crab acted the way it did, (I was not there)
    I can say that most of the time you can stun a crab enough with a blow as shown to allow you to pull the back shell off.

  • @tsequeira2912
    @tsequeira2912 15 лет назад

    One thing he is definitely wrong about is you CANNOT 'knock a crab out by hitting its shell with the flat of the knife. I tried this on various large crab (dungeness) and doing so only made them mad. (I hit one so hard its shell cracked... the guy was still conscious)

    I eat a lot of crab and this is the worst way to prepare it. Boil it whole, when you rip open the top shell it exposed the meat to too much heat and it dries it out, that or it gets to that rubbery texture if you chose to boil as opposed to steam (without the topshell). That and all the juices escape. Keep the crab intact, boil it whole and the juices will marinate the meat when they rupture over inside the crab. This guy is no cook. I cook a lot and this is the best way to do it.

    @westphillyres Trying to compare what a lion does to a gazelle and what a human does to a crab in my opinion are two different things. I get what you are saying, but perceptively we're much more intelligent than any other animal and thus should behave like so. Is being humane to what we kill to much to ask?

  • @AlanMolstad
    @AlanMolstad 14 лет назад

    You should never name your food.
    Juts like you should never give names to your bate what you go fishing.
    But food is food.
    And the way the crab is clean in this video is the normal way this fod is made ready for the table.
    However there are some people that cant take watching some foods , so perhaps it is best if they stay out of the kitchen and just watch TV until called to the table.

    You make some great food, but I'm particularly disappointed with this video because it looked like the crab was still alive even after you tapped it with the knife. I'm a vegetarian so this kind of stuff sort of freaks me out. It just seems.. unhuman.
