Thanks for the video! I'm replacing my damaged manual mirrors after it got hit by a garbage truck and wanted to see what the inside of it looked like before popping off my old broken one.
Super helpful! I was detailing my F250 and while cleaning the mirror, I heard a click and it suddenly stopped it's full range of motion from the control panel. I was hesitant to do much looking behind the mirror for fear of further damage. This helps to understand the components. Thank you!
You don't have to pinch those clips with a zip tie. Just pop them out from the back of the mirror then insert them into the red things and this put the mirror in aligning the middle ball and the other two white studs. Then just push the mirror all the way down and it will click into the bottom one then all the way to the outside and it will click in the outside one. Way easier than trying to align before hand. Good luck everyone
Awesome video, I had to put a junkyard mirror on today on a super duty and it was clicking when you adjusted the mirror. I had good clips but had to spread the little spring out farther so they would engage. I actually had to pinch one with a long reach needle nose and held it there while turning the mirror down to get the first one engaged in the gear. Then I did the same with the other one and turned the mirror left or right. Then just a small thump with my palm to seat the main clip. Works like it's supposed to, and I didn't have to go back to the junkyard for a refund because that was the only one they had. Greatly appreciate it man I may not have figured it out without breaking the most important part
great video .... crashed mine at a sonic drive-in .... duct taped it to get home. watched your video and half hour later the mirror works like NEW. Great job Thanx
My mirror popped out and I used this process to reinstall except instead of zip ties, I used kite string and tied a simplified quick release hitch knot which is basically a simple knot with one end being a loop. Draw the string end in to tighten the knot onto the spreaded pin, and leave a long tail from the loop so when the pin is seated, just pull the tail and the knot releases and is pulled out the bottom.
enjoyed your vid. I agree! hard finding a ford super duty mirror at a salvage yard. I was very fortunate and found a 02 super duty that had a tow mirror that matched perfectly my 02 Super Duty. Anyways, the lower part of the mirror plastic ''housing'' on my mirror was busted pretty good from my dad hitting a road sign with it.... so the top glass mirror itself wasn't broke and the electronics in it still works fine. I went ahead and swapped out the two mirrors but I immediately noticed the replacement mirror is not near as crisp or clear looking as the original. So down the road I plan to swap the two glass mirrors. Your vid was very helpful! Didn't realize it was so easy to pop out! Thanks
mjwpowerstroke Glad to hear that it was helpful! Please be sure to "pop out" the replacement prior to attempting the one on the truck. It sure is an uneasy feeling to have to apply so much force on the plastic frame that holds the mirror glass.
Awesome this totally answered my question As to why there are only two actuators, the other two are just guide pins so now I will go steal a threaded pin off the mirror that I’ve been Cannibalizing for the last couple of years, free from my sales guy at the dealer, it came in on the car hauler smashed.
This doesn't directly relate to your video, but it is close enough that maybe you could point me to a solution. At higher speeds + strong headwinds, the hinges on my mirror don't have enough tension and the whole mirror housing will fold back. Do you know how to access the hinges and whether there is a way to increase their tension?
Can you please show how to fixz a LOOSE side tow mirror on 2006 Ford F250. My mirror no longer stays tightly in place but with every bump opn the road it actually lowers vertically at the arms extending from truck.
Good info. I just bought a 2000 Excursion with the same tow mirrors. The driver side mirror needs both posts, one has the ball joint broken off and the other is missing completely. I'm going to try your method using a plastic drywall anchors and small screw head as the ball joint.
Divad, so did you get your mirror all fixed up? I found a repair kit n Amazon which contains the mirror, backing plate, both adjustment pins and the three sliding pins.
My aftermarket kit has turned out to be a disappointment. The mirror gives a badly distorted image when mounted. Also, the adjusting pins popped out of the backing plate when I pressed the assembly in place, so I lost the powered adjustment function. So I'm now considering new mirrors, perhaps the newer truck style, but those vibrate at speed, I've heard.
I looked back and the ones I got were aftermarket made by KSource kit # was 4C3Z17K707BA, but, I just checked their website and the number didn't match anything. But, you can plug in your info e.g. year, make and model and it will pull it up. I didn't need glass, just the posts and ball socket pins. I was able to use them and have had powered mirrors since the install. I don't recall what I did about the red rubber seal, but, think one of mine was torn and one was missing. I may have just ignored them. KSource shows driver side mirror for my vehicle as Part number : FS# 88237
You know the front of the mirror that faces the front bumper pops off right? Then you disconnect the glass so you dont risk shattering it or breaking the pins
Glad I found your video. I found a replacement mirror kit on Amazon that includes the mirror with backing plate, the two adjusting pins and the three sliding guide pins. It doesn't appear that you could mont the adjusting pins first in the mirror base and then pop the ball ends into the backing plate along with the center ball since the adjusting pins would just be pushed all the way in and not seat, so your method looks to be the best method. Also, I noticed your lower adjusting port in the mirror base is missing the red rubber boot(?). And is the outer round hole missing a metal guide (for one of the sliding guide pins)? Is the mirror working well to this day? Thx again.

Great instructional video. Thank you so much for showing me that I can do this on my F350!

Great video. Even though this video is old, just to let people kno. Now if you order a mirror... studs come with it

Thanks man...for putting things out there for everyone else...
Exactly what I needed to repair the mirror I popped off my truck! Thank you!!

That's a problem that I haven't run into yet - I can't offer any suggestions
Great video I will be using the info. I love how you can learn how to fix anything in your truck now with you tube.
Try pulling the adjusters off mirror installing in mirror motors then snap mirror assembly onto the four adjusters, no zip ties needed
I was just thinking that

Yep, I found an OEM kit like what you mentioned. I only needed the pins (posts), but, had to buy the mirrors, too.

You should make a video of how pop the front of the mirror off
Quite ingenious!
Awesome

What is the part number of what you ordered on Amazon? I need the complete plate with the pins and mirror.

Great video!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
How do you take that plastic piece out in the middle
which piece?
Has anyone done this with a 3D printed replacement?
