I'm pretty sure it was the youngest son she accused - the one who outed her abuse. She said he often makes up stuff, lies, harasses the neighbourhood kids in a sexual manner, etc. There was no evidence of the latter but the state had to separate him from his siblings.

From my understanding the 2nd lady manipulated the couple into getting separated for the "good of the children" and at some point after he moved out, the 2 ladies wouldn't let him see the kids anymore.
They were separated he didn't know about the new extremes she was going to. It's also note worthy to mention. Her statement was about remorse, and she even states she does not want her sentence reduced. I think her apologizing to her husband first is part of her understanding of Christianity in which no others, other than God, are to be placed before the marriage.

I only watch Vagaboom and Cocinando Corea. These are good authentic wholesome family channels. Vagaboom is a travel channel and they blur their daughter’s face. Cocinando Corea is a channel about a Korean Mexican woman that cooks both Mexican and Korean food mainly but she also travels and blogs and although her kids aren’t blurred they are not always featured but you can feel the kindness of this family.

Kind of a non starter for me. I think it could sound abusive if taken out of context. Telling her kids they can't have breakfast until their chores are done, could just of easily been said as telling the kids to do their chores while she made breakfast, So instead of the kids getting breakfast at 8 AM they now have to wait until 8:15. So delaying breakfast would be considered abuse in some people's eyes.

I get what you're saying but that sounds... reasonable? Almost everyone has something of that along the line: "no pudding until you finish your dinner", "no dinner until you tidy up", etc. What IS abusive is intentionally not giving them a meal (pudding is a luxury that we don't NEED, but we do need dinner). So if you intentionally give them no dinner every day they don't do that, it would be abusive. But setting boundaries and telling them to prioritise things like washing their face, packing their bag, etc. before a meal isn't abusive.

Hi Brett. You should do a video about the father. The Franke family lived in my city, so I grew up with them and went to school with the oldest son. The father couldn't have done something because Ruby had "grounded" the father because he kept trying to free them, give them food and water, and actually help them. Ruby had kicked him out of the house for months and never let him see the kids. She even threatened to get a divorce, take full custody of the kids, and never let them see him ever again. In fact, shortly after the RUclips channel was deleted, I'm pretty sure he was the one that filed for divorce. It would be really interesting to hear your thoughts and it would make for a great video!

My wife used to work with Jodi Hildebrandt at a drug rehab center 20+ years ago. She was manipulative and a man-hater then, and it only got worse. She was censured by the State of Utah's Professional Licensing board a few years ago due to her antics and apparently doubled-down to where she is today. She 100% hitched her wagon to Ruby Franke to try and get internet famous. Well she got her wish, just not in the way she hoped.

Brett, the date range is relevant in this case because the in the time specified the average temperature in the part of Utah where the abuse took place is 98 June, 102 July, 100 August. That child's life was in danger just from the heat he was repeatedly exposed to. His mother is a psociopath.
It’s actually always much worse than the averages say. As a kid in that part of Utah we would literally move the tar on the road and our feet would get burned through soccer cleats. Often gets up to 120 in July and August. Very commonly is at least 110.

I've read they'll each serve 30 years max because theirs are second degree felonies. After the first 4 years - the minimum amount of time to be served per the terms of their plea agreement - it'll be up to a board of parole to determine how much more time, if any, they'll serve. The fact they don't have priors could help them. And I've also read the prosecutor of the case is ok with Franke only serving 4 years because she, apparently, showed "true remorse" - if true, WTF?? The fact she's blaming the abuse on Hilderbrandt when there's *documented evidence* of her being abusive towards her children long before she even met the woman tells me she deserves no leniency. She's using Hilderbrandt as a scapegoat when they're two abusers who enabled each other, and both should serve the maximum possible amount.
I’m autistic and know better than to abuse children. I have kids of my own. Seeing this evil woman abuse her children boils my blood. Personally, I believe children are a sacred responsibility. Raising good children into better adults is frankly better than any career achievement, fame, or fortune.

I grew up in the system, more people than you would have thought abuse their children. But I've also seen children who were truly evil. This is a very nuanced topic.
I was abused by my mother and although it never got physical(apart from me needing to protect my dad from her), I still struggle with what she said and did almost 7 years later. I was 20 at the point the abuse started. She and my dad got into an argument. They argued for probably 20 minutes. Once the argument stopped, my dad came into my room to tell me what had happened. She came in swinging at him. I got in between them, but she continued to try and get past me. When she realized she couldn’t get past me, she screamed,”I’m gonna fucking kill you!” at my dad. As I said, I had to hold her back from hitting him. She ended up getting arrested for the threat and taken to jail. We were told she’d spend the night in jail. Before she walked out in cuffs, she claimed she was very upset with me for not letting her assault my dad. Somehow, due to jail error, she got out only a few hours later. She called her mom(my grandmother) and they showed up at the house, demanding the pistol that we had in the house. Dad, in an attempt to avoid a physical altercation, tried to lock himself in his bedroom. She lodged her arm in the door so he couldn’t close it and later claimed that he purposely slammed the door on her arm. She was arrested again and this time properly booked to spend the night in jail. She later said that she was mad that I “took dad’s side” and said she never attempted to assault him. She also said she was done with me for not taking her side. I didn’t talk to her for a bit after this and didn’t hear from her for a couple weeks. The next time we talked, she denied threatening my dad and saying she was done with me. I haven’t spoken to her in almost 7 years and I am much better off.
A tragedy is a sudden and unavoidable infliction of harm mainly death. This woman calling her own actions “a tragedy” is blood boiling. She absolutely could have stopped. She’s not even the mother. She had no responsibility to those children except reporting abuse to the police and she did the opposite of that by encouraging it and joining in on the torture of children.
It’s super heartbreaking for me because I’ve watched multiple videos of this family. I remember a couple years ago there was a petition to have CPS look at this family and they never did even with the 50,000 signatures… 💔

What is sad is I lived through something very very similar to this story, however I was adopted from a very poor family into a very rich family and no one would believe me that these horrible things were happening to me. I ran away once and over again and told my teachers at school. But they would all just go to my parents and ask them if this was going on and they would of course say I was lying and everybody believed them because they were rich. To this day I have been emotionally damaged form this.
It's a guaranteed right under the 6th amendment that you get to have a lawyer. And a lawyer's job isn't always to argue innocence, but to argue for a fair punishment.
Shouldn't be surprised about this case. Yet everyone has the right to a fair and justified trial. Yet the system is broken anyway. Judges have given murders bail to be released without being monitored. Then some with in less than an hour has killed someone else.

I second this. This story is not indicative of what our faith teaches or how we are taught to raise children. There are fanatics in every group; religious, political, societal, etc. There is evil lurking in the midst of all types of people. It does not belong entirely to one group or belief system, but to the individuals who perpetuate it through their own narcissism, folly, selfishness, misery, hatred, greed, etc. This is a heartbreaking story, and my heart is shattered for the abuse these poor children suffered at the hands of someone who should have been their biggest protector, strength, and advocate, but instead chose to be the source and creator of their living nightmares.

From my understanding the 2nd lady manipulated the couple into getting separated for the "good of the children" and at some point after he moved out, the 2 ladies wouldn't let him see the kids anymore.
They were separated he didn't know about the new extremes she was going to. It's also note worthy to mention. Her statement was about remorse, and she even states she does not want her sentence reduced. I think her apologizing to her husband first is part of her understanding of Christianity in which no others, other than God, are to be placed before the marriage.
He wasn't living in the home. He was giving her space, trying to work out the marriage, that was her conditions on working it out. He had no idea.
In her statement she takes NO RESPONSIBILITY for her actions, and acts like she was oblivious to what she was doing to her children. 15yrs is NOT ENOUGH

15 years max per count (there’s 4) they don’t know how long they’ll be in jail for. In the state of Utah it’s up to the parole board when they get out. Max 60 year sentence

I only watch Vagaboom and Cocinando Corea. These are good authentic wholesome family channels. Vagaboom is a travel channel and they blur their daughter’s face. Cocinando Corea is a channel about a Korean Mexican woman that cooks both Mexican and Korean food mainly but she also travels and blogs and although her kids aren’t blurred they are not always featured but you can feel the kindness of this family.

Kind of a non starter for me. I think it could sound abusive if taken out of context. Telling her kids they can't have breakfast until their chores are done, could just of easily been said as telling the kids to do their chores while she made breakfast, So instead of the kids getting breakfast at 8 AM they now have to wait until 8:15. So delaying breakfast would be considered abuse in some people's eyes.

And that IF they had chores, those would be during the day or more towards the evening... Already starting with chores and threats from the moment these kids open their eyes in the morning IS MEANT TO BE A PSYCHOLOGICAL ATTACK to uproot the rest of their day, to mess up their emotional state for the remainder of the day from the very first moment they open their eyes... Some kids have serious morning and evening responsibilities that has to be done before and after school. I get what you're saying but that sounds... reasonable? Almost everyone has something of that along the line: "no pudding until you finish your dinner", "no dinner until you tidy up", etc. What IS abusive is intentionally not giving them a meal (pudding is a luxury that we don't NEED, but we do need dinner). So if you intentionally give them no dinner every day they don't do that, it would be abusive. But setting boundaries and telling them to prioritise things like washing their face, packing their bag, etc. before a meal isn't abusive.
Where was the father in this situation? I'm a father of 3 and there is no way that I would ever let my wife treat my children like this.

What exactly is the reason that the father still has the children and isn't facing charges? He should be facing the exact same charges that the mother is. He apparently just allowed it to happened, and utterly failed in his role as a father. Hi Brett. You should do a video about the father. The Franke family lived in my city, so I grew up with them and went to school with the oldest son. The father couldn't have done something because Ruby had "grounded" the father because he kept trying to free them, give them food and water, and actually help them. Ruby had kicked him out of the house for months and never let him see the kids. She even threatened to get a divorce, take full custody of the kids, and never let them see him ever again. In fact, shortly after the RUclips channel was deleted, I'm pretty sure he was the one that filed for divorce. It would be really interesting to hear your thoughts and it would make for a great video!

My wife used to work with Jodi Hildebrandt at a drug rehab center 20+ years ago. She was manipulative and a man-hater then, and it only got worse. She was censured by the State of Utah's Professional Licensing board a few years ago due to her antics and apparently doubled-down to where she is today. Brett, the date range is relevant in this case because the in the time specified the average temperature in the part of Utah where the abuse took place is 98 June, 102 July, 100 August. That child's life was in danger just from the heat he was repeatedly exposed to. His mother is a psociopath.
It’s actually always much worse than the averages say. As a kid in that part of Utah we would literally move the tar on the road and our feet would get burned through soccer cleats. Often gets up to 120 in July and August. Very commonly is at least 110.
I think she was more so questioning why she was able to list the exact first and last day of the punishment.

I've read they'll each serve 30 years max because theirs are second degree felonies. After the first 4 years - the minimum amount of time to be served per the terms of their plea agreement - it'll be up to a board of parole to determine how much more time, if any, they'll serve. The fact they don't have priors could help them. And I've also read the prosecutor of the case is ok with Franke only serving 4 years because she, apparently, showed "true remorse" - if true, WTF?? The fact she's blaming the abuse on Hilderbrandt when there's *documented evidence* of her being abusive towards her children long before she even met the woman tells me she deserves no leniency. She's using Hilderbrandt as a scapegoat when they're two abusers who enabled each other, and both should serve the maximum possible amount.

I’m autistic and know better than to abuse children. I have kids of my own. Seeing this evil woman abuse her children boils my blood. Personally, I believe children are a sacred responsibility. Raising good children into better adults is frankly better than any career achievement, fame, or fortune.
Franke is worse in my eyes - she abused her kids before she knew Jody, and now that she’s been caught she tries to use emotions to manipulate her public image to get sympathy. At least Hildebrandt doesn’t try as much to mask her true self. But both are terrible women.

I was abused by my mother and although it never got physical(apart from me needing to protect my dad from her), I still struggle with what she said and did almost 7 years later.
I was 20 at the point the abuse started. She and my dad got into an argument. They argued for probably 20 minutes. Once the argument stopped, my dad came into my room to tell me what had happened. She came in swinging at him.
I got in between them, but she continued to try and get past me. When she realized she couldn’t get past me, she screamed,”I’m gonna fucking kill you!” at my dad.
As I said, I had to hold her back from hitting him. She ended up getting arrested for the threat and taken to jail. We were told she’d spend the night in jail. Before she walked out in cuffs, she claimed she was very upset with me for not letting her assault my dad.
Somehow, due to jail error, she got out only a few hours later. She called her mom(my grandmother) and they showed up at the house, demanding the pistol that we had in the house.
Dad, in an attempt to avoid a physical altercation, tried to lock himself in his bedroom. She lodged her arm in the door so he couldn’t close it and later claimed that he purposely slammed the door on her arm.
She was arrested again and this time properly booked to spend the night in jail. She later said that she was mad that I “took dad’s side” and said she never attempted to assault him. She also said she was done with me for not taking her side.
I didn’t talk to her for a bit after this and didn’t hear from her for a couple weeks. The next time we talked, she denied threatening my dad and saying she was done with me.
I haven’t spoken to her in almost 7 years and I am much better off.

Saying the kids were abused downplays the crime in my opinion; this is torture, plain and simple, and no one will be able to change my mind on that.

Not defending the guy but Franke kicked him out and told him to stay away as she said him being around was triggering the breakdown of their marriage and if he wanted to have hope of saving his marriage, which he did want to save, then he was required by Franke to give her all the space. This was Hildabrandts idea. So he stayed away during this most horrific time in his kids’ lives. Again no defense by me. It’s all so very very disgusting. He shouldn’t have bowed out so easily. I’ve watched a lot of videos on this story and wanted to shed some light on the actual events.

He wasn't in the house he got booted before it got to the worst point but he still knew about some of the slightly more minor abuse

Yes it 100% can be a very selfish decision. I don’t really care if people do either way, but it is better for good people with good values to have children and continue to grow good communities.

What’s just as disturbing is that all of Ruby’s siblings are family vloggers too and apparently according to Ruby they have forgiven her and have accepted her back with open arms. Never has it seemed that anyone’s main concern, in that entire family, was ever the children.

The really disturbing part is that there are people defending her and this horrible abusive behavior to this very day.
What is sad is I lived through something very very similar to this story, however I was adopted from a very poor family into a very rich family and no one would believe me that these horrible things were happening to me. I ran away once and over again and told my teachers at school. But they would all just go to my parents and ask them if this was going on and they would of course say I was lying and everybody believed them because they were rich. To this day I have been emotionally damaged form this.

Shouldn't be surprised about this case. Yet everyone has the right to a fair and justified trial. Yet the system is broken anyway. Judges have given murders bail to be released without being monitored. Then some with in less than an hour has killed someone else.

Parenthood is a gift and a privilege that not enough people value. I’m a father of 3 and a survivor of child abuse at the hands of my mom. I look at my children and they fill me with such joy, every one of their accomplishments is their victory we celebrate so my babies can grow up strong and brave. These terrible women disgust me.

I just watched a reporter yesterday speaking of this case and how he felt like she should have e gotten probation. No, just no. I was appalled he would even see it as something that requires zero jail time. This woman belongs in prison, no doubt about it.
It’s so sad that so many people think that this has to do with the their faith. As a member of the same faith I have never seen or experienced such things. She does not represent our religion. She is an imperfect person who made awful choices very much against what we of the same faith actually believe. My faith brings me peace and joy and obviously she had strayed from what we actually believe and represent. Which is trying to follow the example of Jesus Christ to live with God again. Her behavior goes against all of that. One persons very bad actions does not reflect a whole religion and church
I second this. This story is not indicative of what our faith teaches or how we are taught to raise children. There are fanatics in every group; religious, political, societal, etc. There is evil lurking in the midst of all types of people. It does not belong entirely to one group or belief system, but to the individuals who perpetuate it through their own narcissism, folly, selfishness, misery, hatred, greed, etc.
This is a heartbreaking story, and my heart is shattered for the abuse these poor children suffered at the hands of someone who should have been their biggest protector, strength, and advocate, but instead chose to be the source and creator of their living nightmares.

The worst part is, this family lived about 10 minutes from where my family lives! They were separated and he didn't have contact with the kids and Ruby for 13 months because Hildebrand told them they needed to be apart. It was very cult -like she even believed jodi talked to god and was the only way to salvation. So he was a very weak man but did not abuse them.
That’s absolutely atrocious! I’m a mom of 4 and I couldn’t imagine treating them that way. I’m thankful that none of them died from the abuse. Why wasn’t her husband also tried? He saw this going on and did nothing to stop it.
