I've always viewed this as an applause to the little guy. The one carving out his existence with his own two hands with pride in labor and thanks to the creator that has given him land and the strength to tame it. The farmer, the factory and front line folks and the countless other thankless workers that we could not live without. Thank you.
I would love this as the anthem of humanity, the song of farmers, cobblers, men who were raised from the land, staring into the night sky at the fat moon and saying "I am going there." and never once doubting his words.
Listening to this, I think of the great things the human species has done. Sure, we have used the planet as our battleground, we've laced a lot of it with pollution, and we've caused many extinctions. But still, the common man has risen up to great heights over the millenia. We've put men on the moon. We've made our mark in space with Voyager and Pioneer. We have brought about technological advances never considered before our time. This piece of music grasps the heart and mind of this greatness and raises it higher than the stature of gods. We are amazing.
To answer a question that has appeared in some of the comments that follow : This is Aaron Copland conducting the London Symphony Orchestra . It is my favorite version .
One can't help but think of Regan's "Touching the face of God" speech. Deeply emotional. A superb piece of music by Mr Copeland and one that should never be sullied by mere party political concerns. This is a gift to humanity not politicians.
Thank you so much. Our country is so mligned in the news and, it seems, all over the world, that it is music to my ears and to my heart to read such a comment as yours.
Today we laid to final rest another GREAT AMERICAN of the Greatest Generation ,.he was my Dads brother in Law . for 60 yrs ,and loved my aunt Rosalie Dearly ,, ,,both Dad and Bill served gallantly and courageously in the south pacific during world war 2 from beginning to end ,,. This was the parting song as we left the funeral home ,,. overwhelmingly powerful ,, and exactly fitting for such a great man and father figure to so many ,, not just his 5 children ,...uncle Bill worked at IHC in Louisville
Thank you for sharing! Give me an hour. May be the lump in my throat will go down. We need more heroes like him. The best I can do is be a good citizen. Work hard. Pay my taxes. Obey the laws. Vote. Continue to enjoy the rights and freedoms he and his generation fought and died to secure for all of us.
america does no more exist since ages....it is the corporation called the us of a , with all its citizens as stock assets....nothing more...nothing less......And yes , even under 'America" its civilians were over patriotic brainwashed warmongering idiots.....
It is an incredible thing that one human being can create something so intangible and unreachable, so inspiring and uplifting... We receive such gifts so seldom in life. Fanfare for the common man reminds us that we all exist to hear, to see and learn. To share in our experiences and give to each other that which can never be taken. This one piece of music fills me personally with a huge sense of wonder and hope. Love it.
STS-135 forced me to come and enjoy this timeless classic. In just a few hours, a part of our great nation's history will be sheltered forever. I'm gonna miss seeing this beauty leave the earth, only to return, a test of man and machine.
i play this once every 2-3 weeks, it brings me back to myself... by the end you are standing in front of your window saluting the sky. Thank you Copeland, this one woudl be fitting music for any occasion, the end of the world, or even the beginning.
Aaron Copeland's use of horned instruments gives his pieces a distinct American sound. Many would say he did not pioneer as much as Mozart, Beethoven or bach, however, I must say he is by far my favorite classical composer, partially because as an American, I feel he has captured the American spirit in his works. Truly a brilliant piece. It seems strange that there are dislikes but all who listen are entitled to their opinion. That is part of the American spirit that he has so succesful captured.
it's beautiful that this song is called "fanfare for the COMMON man," and yet it is so intense and magnificent. it stresses the point that every man is capable of so much and has so much incredible potential.
I remember playing this song in High School. It was awesome back then on stage & it's still a powerful piece of music today. Long live music & praise God who created everything!
Literally for the common man. The common man wears no crown, the common man works for a living, and shows it with the sweat of his brow. To me this is giving thanks to the common man, seeing how a fanfare was played long ago for royalty specifically. Don't hate on me for my opinion.
+Randi Kantor Can't communists leave other individuals alone long enough to enjoy a beautiful piece of music. Are they so unable to control [if only for a moment] their endless desire to spread their failed anti-individual religion.
+Michael A Failed and anti individual??? Not my experience. Throughout my American life it has been The Democratic party's policies that helped me get scholarships when young (yes I worked hard to get them) and those policies saved my home after that Bush/Cheney/Haliburton war almost ruined our economy. And don't forget Social Security and Medicare that Seniors both Republican and Democrat enjoy. Brought about by Democrats. I suppose now you will attempt to insult and me and call me blind, but I am the "common man" this song is dedicated to, and no matter...my good-paying job and saved roof are my proof. BTW, I am a responsible gun owner and salute our flag with reverence.
I'll never forget sailing out of Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on the QM2, looking at Manhattan passing by the Statue of Liberty and under the Verrazano Bridge and having this playing on deck at the same time. Really, really impressive and majestic.
Aaron Copeland's use of horned instruments gives his pieces a distinct American sound. This makes me miss the spirit of innovation and exploration like nothing else. I'm amazed and humbled by human ability, but we need to really work on getting that back.
Of all the pieces I played in school, this one was my favorite. I've been in love with Copland ever since. His music is so simple, but so expressive. It was really amazing being in the middle of the orchestra and being engulfed by this song.
I used to listen to this song as a kid, andI still love it. I had an old audio tape and they played excerpts from the Gettysburg address during the song, it was awesome!
Listening to this tune, i see all kinds of jets, airplanes and helicopters flying towards a red morning sky, to fight the evil that is Kim Jong-un. My respect men, and may God bless you
I think the title is "Fanfare for the common man".... America or Americans aren't mentioned at all. The music is in the ear of the listener. That's it.
you may be too young to remember, but back in july of 1969, after the astronauts landed on the moon (20 July 1969) this often accompanied programs & news casts about the space race & astronauts. I still think of it accompanying a time lapse of the voyage, from lift off to touch down. was very heart touching & emotional to me.
I'm British and I remember watching TV when the planes slammed into the World Trade Centre and the firefighters standing on top of the wreckage proudly holding the Stars And Stripes and thinking this is a great nation badly hurt but never the less a nation with the steel and backbone to shake itself off and rise again. This piece of music engenders those thoughts and feelings in me.
I would love see this with a background of common people: mechanics, nurses, teachers, farmers, firemen, mothers. I get choked up just thinking of all those people looking up from their work into a far light, waving somberly, then returning to their jobs. PLEASE - someone make a music video of this.
Lest we forget why we are Democrats, this hymn, this anthem by Aaron Copland has opened every Democratic convention for over half a century... We are an American people of unyielding good will, tolerance, compassion, and good old Yankee ingenuity when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, which we face direc...tly... We will get through these difficult times, and the winds of history are at our backs....
My historical knowledge is very limited. I just happen to like Copland's music and decided to find out a little bit more about his life. Man, what a surprise.
We played this work in High School, the Birmingham concert band, Van Nuys California. Ted Lynn conductor. I was in the percussion section. Appropriate for Veteran's Day 2015. Vietnam 67-68
This is played during the beginning of their "The Orchard" video with the with the historic play-by-play calls of Lloyd Pettit, Pat Foley, and John Weideman. That video always gives me goosebumps.
How could anyone dislike this song? This song was written in response to the USA entering WWII. If the USA hadn't entered the war the world would be a whole different place.
This song symbolizes to me, the potential of a common man to form a group of common men. To combine equal forces in order to attain a powerful force that can literally sculpt their faces on mountains. To carry the strength and responsibility to support the common man.
I am not a fan of much Copland ... but this is amazing. I always imagine rockets launching, people standing hopefully and triumphantly, workers in the factory, farmers toiling, all the little people who get forgotten standing on the edge of something bigger and brighter.
Majesty can mean greatness. It doesn't have to mean "royalty". And WWII was certainly an achievement in the greatness of common men and women in America who came together and did something amazing.
Whenever I hear this, I don't know why, but I instantly see a vision of the remains of a recent battle. Like a huge battle that was just fought for freedom, and this song representing the freedom now made from the battle. This song should be like the Anthem of the Military.
Enjoyed hearing this beautiful music at the closing of today's interfaith service at Ground Zero during Pope Francis' visit to the 9/11 memorial. Perfect way to end a unique and amazing event.
I first heard this years ago during the celebration of the Statue of Liberty's refurbishing, before 9/11. It still sends chills up my spine. I used to have the recording in my collections, the tape's called "They Come To America." I'd pay good money to have that recording again.
I've always viewed this as an applause to the little guy. The one carving out his existence with his own two hands with pride in labor and thanks to the creator that has given him land and the strength to tame it. The farmer, the factory and front line folks and the countless other thankless workers that we could not live without. Thank you.
Every time I hear this. I always believe that something glorious is about to happen.
Maybe a football game.

We are amazing.
Why thank you.
***** Wise words you selected there. You have good taste for words.
Nice comments to the both of you, but, we have not caused that many extinctions :P
Sorry if that was off topic
sometimes i lick myself

this song is SO playing at my funeral, which i pray will be many decades away
Lol

I salute the brave men who fought for our country our lives and all the lives lost shall not be forgotten
+Evan Morris What country are you from?
Mark Smith America
Peter Wolf bruh im American. But I see your point
Evan Morris If by America you mean the United States...then stick your chest out and say it proud like you have a pair!!!! Let's GO!!!!!!
america does no more exist since ages....it is the corporation called the us of a , with all its citizens as stock assets....nothing more...nothing less......And yes , even under 'America" its civilians were over patriotic brainwashed warmongering idiots.....
This fanfare is for me... and each of you...
...it uplifts my soul, and reminds me that I'm an amazing part of us all!
When that second horn comes in for the harmony, I get goosebumps.
Listening to this as Falcon 9 comes into port. Thanks Trip!
I now think of Neil Armstrong when listening to this. He was truly just a common man who rose to become a legend. May he rest in peace.

I am an eighth grade trumpet player. We have this for band class. Such a fun song.
I remember playing this song in High School.
It was awesome back then on stage & it's still a powerful piece of music today.
Long live music & praise God who created everything!
one of the most beautiful, and majestic, pieces of music, created by a human being.
Truly one of the most emotionally stirring pieces of music ever written. Modern film scores would not exist without Copland's influence.
Literally for the common man. The common man wears no crown, the common man works for a living, and shows it with the sweat of his brow. To me this is giving thanks to the common man, seeing how a fanfare was played long ago for royalty specifically.
Don't hate on me for my opinion.
No hate, thanks for saying it for me!
💯% True & Beautiful!👍
beautiful piece for honoring our fallen fathers who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield our country
One of the best pieces of music, ever. I'm a brass player, and I can only imagine what it would feel like to play this. Spectacular.
Beautiful piece of music
Those perfect fifths between the horns and trumpets get me everytime I hear this piece! So powerful!
Brilliant Piece of Work by Copland
vote for Hillary Rodman Clinton she stands for the common person like Elizabeth Warren
+Randi Kantor LMAO!!
vote for Bernie Sanders or Hillary
+Randi Kantor Can't communists leave other individuals alone long enough to enjoy a beautiful piece of music. Are they so unable to control [if only for a moment] their endless desire to spread their failed anti-individual religion.

Really, really impressive and majestic.
No song better encapsulates what makes America great than Fanfare for the Common Man.
This music always brings up so much emotion.
I think this should be a fanfare for all those who have suffered oppression and injustice and somehow have managed to survive and prevail.
How could anyone dislike this song? It has incredible meaning behind it.
It should be GREAT man, because he is AARON, isn't it Aaron?
ALWAYS YOU!!!
Best one on youtube. Unparalleled clarity.
This song was played for my College graduation. Goosebumps!!!
I actually cry during this song
OK, this is the right performance. Right tempo, right tone (what a sweet trumpet sound!), right balance. Dynamics, articulation, wonderful.

This is literally the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard.

learning this in band... love it!!!!
Of all the pieces I played in school, this one was my favorite. I've been in love with Copland ever since. His music is so simple, but so expressive. It was really amazing being in the middle of the orchestra and being engulfed by this song.
It evokes an image of ordinary people not just in America but the entire world, people who are the real building blocks of civilization...
I listen to this everyday after school! If I could have it on my ipod, I would;)
Beautiful original music - awe inspiring and a worthy tribute to "The Common Man"
I used to listen to this song as a kid, andI still love it. I had an old audio tape and they played excerpts from the Gettysburg address during the song, it was awesome!
Aye. He's earned it.
Excellently stated. MOST excellently, stated.
Listening to this tune, i see all kinds of jets, airplanes and helicopters flying towards a red morning sky, to fight the evil that is Kim Jong-un. My respect men, and may God bless you
+Thomas Kole Sure, its obvious you mention yourself not being the so called hero in those jets, airplanes and helicopters.....typical .
Agree 100 percent. This one strikes me as perfect.
I think the title is "Fanfare for the common man".... America or Americans aren't mentioned at all. The music is in the ear of the listener. That's it.
Paul Fabrique Yeah, sorry, it's a little bit American.

Never gets old!
Carolina Crown is doing this for part of their show this year!!! Can't wait to hear. Their brass section is almost always in top 5.
SO EXCITING!!! I will record my first son/daughter while its being born and put this song in the video.
I'm British and I remember watching TV when the planes slammed into the World Trade Centre and the firefighters standing on top of the wreckage proudly holding the Stars And Stripes and thinking this is a great nation badly hurt but never the less a nation with the steel and backbone to shake itself off and rise again. i love that bass trombone and tuba part, so powerful and bold
I would love see this with a background of common people: mechanics, nurses, teachers, farmers, firemen, mothers. I get choked up just thinking of all those people looking up from their work into a far light, waving somberly, then returning to their jobs. PLEASE - someone make a music video of this.
I wasn't in it, but Carolina Crown used this in their 2012 program. Great show and great piece of music!
So moving and invokes tears
This beautiful music will live far beyond our corrupt American Empire.
One of my favorite all time pieces. Something to play as loud as possible.
I can just imagine a common man walking out amidst great applause. The common dude's not used to this sort of fanfare, but he earned it.
If I were to pick one song to represent the whole of humanity, to be the Anthem of Earth, this would be it.
The comments before this are eloquent and I just wanted to say THX for all who have posted. My tears flowed as I watched the 9.11 museum opening.
You know 9/11 was all Bush's fault.

So amazing that a Jewish New Yorker made music for the wild west. A tribute to what dreams live inside a man's heart.
well said, how amazing is this song

As a trumpet player, it's so AWESOME to hear trumpets play as a group that cleanly. My freaking gosh. That's really impressive.
Humankind should let go its fate, making war. And embrace its destiny, compose masterpieces.
This song symbolizes to me, the potential of a common man to form a group of common men. To combine equal forces in order to attain a powerful force that can literally sculpt their faces on mountains. To carry the strength and responsibility to support the common man.
Every ounce of the American spirit in a single, compact piece.
The part where the horns come in and harmonize... Oh my god, BEAUTIFUL! This is the song that inspired me to hit double C on trumpet =P
I've putted this song as the alarm of my cellphone. Now I woke up everyday motivated as a superman.
A tear forms in my eye each time I hear this.
This is from crowns show from 2012!!! This just makes me happy.
This along with the Deus Erie from Requiem are the two main components of our marching band show this year, it is so much fun to play!
I am not a fan of much Copland ... but this is amazing. I always imagine rockets launching, people standing hopefully and triumphantly, workers in the factory, farmers toiling, all the little people who get forgotten standing on the edge of something bigger and brighter.
Fanatstic music - from a great composer -very inspiring.
This is my man jam! ...song really builds..
Bongu Rob, A good start to the day.
i just listened to a max keiser interview of cody wilson of darkwallet and they mentioned this. BRAVO!
Thank you so much for this.
Majesty can mean greatness. It doesn't have to mean "royalty". And WWII was certainly an achievement in the greatness of common men and women in America who came together and did something amazing.
All I can think of when I hear this is spaceships.. Slowly flying through space
The anthem of boot prints on the moon.
Word
Yes, agreed. One small step for (this) man. One giant leap for mankind. We shall return. This time to stay.
Even the German powerhouses would give this a standing ovation.
Whenever I hear this, I don't know why, but I instantly see a vision of the remains of a recent battle. Like a huge battle that was just fought for freedom, and this song representing the freedom now made from the battle. This song should be like the Anthem of the Military.

Jazz integrated into symphonic and orchestral music. I am so happy.
This is certainly going on my Desert Island Discs if I'm ever successful enough to be invited.
I first heard this years ago during the celebration of the Statue of Liberty's refurbishing, before 9/11. It still sends chills up my spine. I used to have the recording in my collections, the tape's called "They Come To America." I'd pay good money to have that recording again.
Makes me think of my Dad, who never missed a day of work in his life....
I cry when I hear this. Amazing song.
