- In over 200 episodes across four seasons of Deal or No Deal, plus a fifth counting CNBC's brief revival, only two contestants went home a million dollar winner. Even then, both had the luxury of five and nine million dollar cases respectively. Let's revisit both of their runs and discover why going home with the million is almost impossible.

Turning down $416,000 at a 50/50 shot to win a million is being an irresponsible adult. Just lost out on life changing money
Not quite. He was already upper middle class with a house and good income at nursing, plus the show gave him a $10k safety net. That final offer was $84,000 less than fair value. Me personally I would have taken the deal despite it being a mathematically bad offer.
Gimmicks like the "Million Dollar Mission" & the changing of the case opening music is what essentially doomed _Deal or No Deal_ & essentially made it a fad game show: A super-mega hit for a couple years that then fades into obscurity.
I never even realized that they tweaked the soundtrack for season 4 until just a couple of years ago. Guess that says a lot in and of itself...

Season 4 the Banker intentionally got more stingy with the offers in order to push players forward. In Jessica Robinson's game, she could have been easily scared off with a $201k offer with 6 cases remaining, and the Banker would have been mathematically justified. Instead the Banker held down the offers like a beach ball underwater, and by the time the Banker was ready to get serious Jessica had a monster safety net and it was too little too late.
Love the game, but yeah, almost impossible. It gets upsetting when somebody loses a lot of money, and they had a big safety net.
I loved this show as a kid and still love watching it back now. Howie Mandel is just a star. Sadly, it’s quite a bummer that the game is ridiculously luck based (if not completely).
NBC definitely could have handled it a bit better and probably gotten a longer run out of it. I've got a feeling we'll see a revival eventually though. You can't keep an iconic format down forever...

I had a feeling you’d show up again. I loved Deal or No Deal and always will. For the 2nd million win, I remembered coming home from my first job I’ve worked and when i tuned in, it was after the last commercial break and i saw that board…HOLY SH**!!

The million dollar mission was exciting, but somewhat bland. Everyone knew the players would push on until only one million dollar case remained. Only the gutsiest players pushed on from there.
I've always loved Deal or No Deal. it's one of my favorite primetime game shows and of all time. I actually liked the Million Dollar Mission.
The only thing I would fix about it, make it similar to Pyramid's tournament format. Where once someone wins the Million, go back to regular game play.
Aside from that, Deal or No Deal will always have a place in my heart.
Or, you know, get rid of the lowest amounts, like for the 2 million dollar cases, the penny gets removed, and the lowest amount is a dollar.
And yet on nearly every show, the contestant "knows" they have the million dollar case, until they find out they don't have it. Hey, it's t.v. reality!
I would be so extremely stressed out over the choice of literally a penny and a Million. I would take whatever deal there was at this point instead of going for it like the dude who went away with $1 ($10,001 actually).
Fate worse than losing the final question on WWTBAM huh?! At least Ken Basin left the show with $25,000!
The thing about DOND is a lot of contestants went for it & lost(Koshka, Richie), not really because they were greedy, but more so because they wanted the bragging rights, wanted to shove it in the banker's face, etc. The mission got them so self-absorbed in having to win the game, that they were willing to do anything. Koshka's made more sense with all that was behind it. Richie, not so much. The late 2000's/early 2010's really are the era of MIllion Dollar Missions. Also, they basically replaced every safety net with the million so yeah
Also, in season 2, a contestant Matt picked a case #26 contained $3,000,000 but chose to take a deal of $675,000. Had he keep going and turned down a whopping huge deal of $1.6 Million, Matt would’ve became the biggest winner on deal or no deal history!
It was actually case 23 that had the $3,000,000. Case 26 actually had the million dollars in that same episode

@@anishaidarali6659 PYL and Weakest Link are on the list for sure. I don't know that the Chase really works here. That show doesn't advertise a million dollar prize, and even if the Chaser offered that much money in a single episode, it would have to be split among three contestants after they all took the highest offer.
@@bcschneider53 Well, as far as I know, the biggest bank on the chase us version is $660,000, which has been won by a team of three. Throughout Season 2 alone, roughly $1.8 million has been given away. What do you say about it?
@@anishaidarali6659 That’s the problem though. The highest prize is not even 2/3rds of the way to a million, and that’s before it gets split among the three. Unless the chaser ever offers a million dollars to a single contestant, I fail to see a good angle for me to be able to include it in a series like this unfortunately
There were 2 contestants that won $1M are Jessica Rb. and Tommorrow Rd. in which that I can agree; I know and you know.
The first few seconds is a fate worse than losing the final question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire!! At least Ken Basin left the game with $25,000, which is pretty good! This man on the other hand is essentially on his own.

@@ABCEasyas-- Ooh, Don't Forget the Lyrics is one I hadn't thought of, mainly because I've never really watched it...Minute to Win It is the next one I'm planning but currently dealing with the logistics of relocating and a busy time with GRID/LASTCAR commitments. Hope to have it up sometime in June though.
This was a game show that I wanted to apply for, because it had no trivia questions, and all you had to do was pick cases and then choose whether to accept or reject an offer by the Banker.
It's unfortunate that nobody won the million on a regular game.
I didn't get to see the CNBC revival, but I watched both $1,000,000 winners get interviewed in that trailer.
I felt very bad that Richie Bell didn't win the million; if he had swapped cases at the end of his game, not only would he have won it, but he would've been the only man to do so.
In fact it's quite a coincidence that--as of this post--in both DOND and WOF no men have won $1,000,000.
Contrast that with Jeopardy! and Millionaire which have had only one woman each win $1,000,000.

@@bcschneider53 A couple of people had won $1 million on Deal or No Deal; a couple of people had won $1 million on Wheel of Fortune; a person won $1 million on Syndicated WWTBAM; but no one ever won $1 million on The Weakest Link. Even the highest winning amount never exceeded 1/5 of a million dollars. It’s insane how impossible it is to win a million on TWL.
Contestants have loss aversion kick into gear when the amounts get really high. Also, the later rounds have harder questions. A contestant who fails to bank a large amount can be easily targeted for elimination, for costing the team a lot of money.

Not sure if you know about this, but there were Three pilots of the US Version of Deal or No Deal that was originally pitched to ABC.
However, The network rejected the offer on the pilot of the version. At least one of the ABC Pilots was Uploaded by Wink Martindale's RUclips Channel.
Actually, there were four US pilots that was originally pitched to ABC in 2004.
It's almost impossible to win $1,000,000 because you have 1 in 26 chance of picking the million and you have to go all the way- which means to refuse life-changing money from the banker and relying just on luck- that what you picked is $1,000,000- but it means 50% chance of winning maximally $500- that's the left side.

@@JairoD.Garcia I did. Watched the entire season, mainly because I’m a pretty big Boston Rob fan. I went in very skeptical but I don’t think it was nearly as bad as I was fearing it might be.
I can't even pretend to give an iota of respect for DOND. I've dealt with Jeopardy fans who've sneered at Millionaire and me for bringing it up. I'm like them with DOND, not even going to.......it's dumb luck and I hate it, happy it makes people happy I guess. But anyway, I suggest when you aren't busy, doing a video on the US version of Winning Lines sometime: ruclips.net/video/eb_04DhuNB0/видео.html The Wonderwall shows off what WWTBAM could have done to lower the odds of people winning the jackpot without crazy nostradamus/license plate/social security impossible esoterica questions. Same producers made Winning Lines and WWTBAM, once CBS gave it up they should have brought over Wonderwall to WWTBAM. Before the Wonderwall though, are two rounds which worked pretty badly when adapted from the UK lottery light-entertainment to being primetime million-dollar game show rules.

In Season 5 nobody won the million because none of them picked the million dollar case 😭😭
