*"Find a home for everything"* Man, it feels so good to hear someone say this. It seems insignificant, but my dad told me years ago, "put your things in the same place everyday and you'll never lose them". He told me this because as a teenager, I'd lose my keys, wallet, other items all the time and this helped tremendously. Not only for keeping up with my things, but also to organize my things and honestly, my life. Also, lol @ "playing Tetris". Very fitting.
That’s actually a very good technique. Try to fit everything new in restricted area. It’s hard to keep bringing stuff, when you can see how much is already there. For me its books. I keep putting them around the house so it doesnt look like I have a lot of unread ones. It would be different tho if I try to put them in one place. I bet I would be surprised by the view.
Here in the US, I know so many people who have an entire linen closet filled with spare sheets, towels, and spare blankets. Like, everyone I know. Did you ever see the Friends episode with that quiz show where they have to answer How Many Categories of Towels does Monica have? 🤣 It’s so true! Myself, I shed that philosophy, and I’ve never been happier. Now I only keep one set of sheets. When I wash them, I better have enough energy to get them dried and back on the bed before I sleep that night ;). It is working for me. But I wonder about bath towels do you keep and how often for laundry? I haven’t been able to get my towels (bath or kitchen towels) to an amount that works for me...always feels like too many (too many to store and fold) and simultaneously not enough (have to wash and re-use too often)
I've also gone to one set of sheets and will never go back. I have 6 bath towels. I use the turkish towels because they work well and roll up really small (for towels). They also double as pool towels. For me, I only need one, but my brother's family visits frequently and I need enough towels for everyone.
I agree, it is very normal for our posessions to fluctuate, and I really enjoy when the model minimalists talk about their thought processes when things change in their lives like that :)
Hi Lia, I'm new on your channel. Found you accidently. May I ask for informations bout your pants? Brand and where did you buy them? Is it linen fabric? So it's hard to iron? By the way: i have a buzzcut as well. Nearly three years now. In between two times a bit longer on top. But since I have skin problems (that's probably the first reason for a buzzcut, but the second reason is I like it simple and easy) it's freeing and more hygienic. I really prefer it so far. I also realize people looking at me like I'm weird or something - because of the buzzcut. Don't know if I only see the negatives - but I think it's more than positives. Would be greatful for an answer. 🙂
Yes but I am just good enough at understanding Swedish to read books ☺ and I hope it will help broaden my vocabulary and understanding of grammar. In the six months I lived in Sweden I only spoke English but I love the language and hope to be able to actually also speak it one day ☺
I find this lifestyle fascinating Something I've noticed with some who chose this lifestyle, tend to dress like a bowl of oatmeal. Why? Is it something that happens within the process of switching to living this way & thinking I must dress as bland as oatmeal to *really* be true to being minimalist?? Seriously. I see the pattern & wonder why, what's up with it? I think having oatmeal colored items are fine I think I own exactly one shirt thats beige. I never wear it. I think if I had them as super big wooly socks I'd wear them all winter though.
Yes, that seems to be a theme. But similarly, many people choose a white, black, navy theme. I think part of it is a trend and the other part is maybe realizing that crazy colors often take away from the person or just don't match well with the skin tone. I can only really speak for myself: I love beige and natural warm colors because I think they compliment my skin very well, they go which each other, they support how I look and don't take away from me as a person... ☺ and maybe I am also influenced by trends without realizing.

That Delia Owens book is amazing. It’s one of my favorites.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that reads books that I buy & donates them right away.
yes, I love that! And this way many people can enjoy the same book. most people don't read the books they keep multiple times anyway :)
Makes me feel better that you have to play Tetris with your things too Lia.
I am glad that makes you feel better ☺ I definitely spend some time rearranging my things every now and then ☺
