I already knew this technique, but I have to say that this is one of the most comprehensive and efficient ways of doing this trick that I’ve ever seen. Doing the steps in the order you have them is by far the most sensible and is guaranteed to eliminate the chance to over file the sidewalls or the underside of the nail by mistake like you might do if you start with filing underneath before shaping, like so many other nail techs do in their tutorial videos 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I like this a lot! Well done!
My mom had a finger injury when I was young. she has never been able to have decent nails done because her natural nail grows downward like that. In all my schooling and training I have never been able to fix it for her. This is amazing, I can’t wait to try this for her.
@@jordanleighwheatley it really did help! Not perfect but looks good. I was in an accident last year and now have my own wonky index nail! Same ones oddly lol. I haven’t tried it on myself.
Thank you for this video!! Not many people talk about this. I have clubbed/curved nails. They grow so awkwardly so it only makes since to do forms. Also gel-x nails don’t really work for me since my nails grow slightly downward. It’s always a struggle 😫
I’ve seen many professional corrections in this manner before. But I feel it wastes a lot of gel. Why do you prefer the correction to be done this way as opposed to shortening the nail short, placing a form in a straight position and building a new extension?
Because for me it’s fast than pulling out a form and resculpting. If I only have one nail to correct this is easier for me. That is just my personal preference.
Thank u. I have an overlay & my index nails curve & the rest grow straight. I hate the curve. I’m not happy that I have to file away my own nail (they’re long) by I’m glad I found a solution. Thanks again
I feel like if you filed the bottom bulk first working your way upwards you would use less product. Basically filing underside first so that when you put the gel on the remaining bulk, it will be a higher rather then building them higher while saving product.
Hi Katie, thank you so much for an awesome video, very helpful!! On the other end of the nail curve spectrum... I have several clients with ski-jump nails or nails that curve up. Any tips on correcting that shape?
Thank you! For ski-jump nails, usually keeping it thin at the cuticle and the free edge is best, while building up the center to create a more appealing look. I usually say short nails are best for ski-jump.
Thank you so oooo much for this , I have very curved nails an I have trouble when I let them go too far. Since you have to use such a big dollop, do you need ro cure it extra??
im not alone! wahoooo LOL I was thinking for the longest time that I was doing something wrong, it took me a while to realize my natural nail is why my nail was curving downward!! duhhh Does anyone know how to place tips on a curved nail? I use forms, but I would like to use tips on my own nails once in a while, however, if I glue them properly, they result in being curved...? any help
Like I said, there are two ways to do it, that would be the other way. ☺️ I find this way faster and easier especially if I’m wanting to correct a nail during a quick fill.
No they grow naturally this way. Most natural nails don’t grow out nice and straight. ☺️ It’s common for natural nails to curve & twist the longer they get.
Wouldn't it be easier to file the original hanging nail first before adding all that product? Seems like a waste of gel. Not trying to be negative, but I like to work smarter not harder.
I like to work smarter too, to me this is easier. Like I said in the video you can do it the other way where you file off the nail and rebuild using a tip or form, however I prefer to not have to mess with a form if I don’t have to. It’s a matter of personal preference.
Adding to my comment… you do fantastic work and your demeanor is perfect for teaching in addition to your calm voice. Some people try teaching their craft and end up concentrating on their performance and losing sight on what their intentions were for their video and the translation gets lost. You do very well so keep up the good work!
My clients come first, which means I don’t always have time to do my own nails. After a long day at work the last thing I want to do is stay late at night to do mine. There’s a saying that says.... if you walk into a salon to get your hair done, see the girl who doesn’t have her own hair done because you know she is the busiest. 😉

How did it work??

This is THE #1 video for remedying curved nails! I cannot express all my appreciation. You're the best !!!
Thank you for making this video I was having a hell of a time with one of my clients! And now I’m able to do her nails beautifully 🥰
You made the whole process look so simple ❤️
Thanks so much 😊
Your a world of knowledge, thank you for sharing
Interesting technique!!! I'm always learning something new.
I always love them looking at the fixed nail in amazement! Like we performed some magic trick, lol. 🪄
Totally! We are magicians 👏🏻

Thank you for doing this video and sharing it with everyone. It is nice to see how to correct nails like that.
Thanks for watching ☺️ glad you found it helpful
Wow, what a transformation!!! You're nail grew out!!👏👏
Thank you! Yes it did! 💖
@@NailsByKatieDutra you're welcome!!! Yikes just caught my homophone error in my initial comment lol meant your not you're. 🤦♀️
Haha I knew what you meant! 😆
@@NailsByKatieDutra good! It's getting late here. Thank you for the post!
With what did you clean the nail after curing and before filling? Very helpful video! Thank you ❤
99% isopropyl alcohol
Thank u for this video!! Such a big help I deal with this issue with my own nails. Drives me crazy!! ❤

That is such a good tutorial!
I have to do this with my pointer finger nails too 😩 glad I'm not the only one
I think the pointer finger is the most common! Funny how that is 😆
Great video. Thanks for the tips!!!
Thanks for watching! 💖
Awesome video very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Krissy! ☺️💖
Thank you for sharing it is very helpful and what a beautiful nail!!!

Fantastic
Very informative TY so much. 😃
You did an absolute amazing job on this video I just had to go ahead and sub 👏 🙌 cant wait to see more 🤗

This GREAT! Thank you for sharing.

Really great video!

Perfect
I feel like if you filed the bottom bulk first working your way upwards you would use less product. Basically filing underside first so that when you put the gel on the remaining bulk, it will be a higher rather then building them higher while saving product.
If you do it that way you will have a shorter nail and less of a perfect shape. Removing the curve first will shorten the nail quite a bit.
Hi Katie, thank you so much for an awesome video, very helpful!! On the other end of the nail curve spectrum...

Beautiful rebalance!
Thank you so oooo much for this , I have very curved nails an I have trouble when I let them go too far. Since you have to use such a big dollop, do you need ro cure it extra??
I did not, because its clear, the light can cure it all the way through 😊
Great explanation! What is that beautiful gold on the older set? It looks magical
Is it Akzentz Golden Nugget and I sprinkles some fine gold holographic glitter on top! ✨😍
Katie, do you have a video for the pink nails with the gold stars in this video?
I don’t! 😬
Wow awesome transformation! What primer did you use?
I use the Luminary Commit primer! But any sticky non-acid primer will do ☺️
Will this train the way the nail grows over time or is this only temporary?
Only temporary ☺️ unfortunately we can’t change our anatomy 😆
What primer did you use here? Thank you!
probably the Luminary Commit primer
My nails also bend down but can you make a video about fixing them with out gel acrylic poly gel e.t.c ?
There isn’t really any way to correct the shape without adding product. The only thing you can do is keep them shorter.
im not alone! wahoooo LOL I was thinking for the longest time that I was doing something wrong, it took me a while to realize my natural nail is why my nail was curving downward!! duhhh Does anyone know how to place tips on a curved nail? I use forms, but I would like to use tips on my own nails once in a while, however, if I glue them properly, they result in being curved...? any help
Great video, I just subscribed! I have a question, have your nails always been shaped like this?
Yes they have. It’s very common for nails to turn or twist as they grow out longer. ☺️ in my experience very few have perfect natural nails
@@NailsByKatieDutra yes, mine twist to one side a little bit 😁
What about ski sloped nails?
For ski sloped I usually recommend keeping them short, and make sure to build up a nice apex to give the illusion of a straight nail ☺️
Why wouldn’t you shorten by filing off all of the curve and then put a form under to make the length? Wouldn’t be so much product used.
Like I said, there are two ways to do it, that would be the other way. ☺️ I find this way faster and easier especially if I’m wanting to correct a nail during a quick fill.
I find that I file underneath first so I don’t waist the product.🙂
I’m not sure how that would work because then the nail would be much shorter 😄
if the clients has that curl nails, why wouldn't we recommend them extension instead of rebalance their natural nails ? thank u very much
You can certainly do that! Just a matter of preference
Is the reason you have hooked nails because of the weight of the product on the end of your nail?
No they grow naturally this way. Most natural nails don’t grow out nice and straight. ☺️ It’s common for natural nails to curve & twist the longer they get.
Any other nail techs get a rush of adrenaline when you file out that C curve when doing a correction like this? Anyone? No? Maybe?
I want my natural nails to curve.
I hate my nails 🥺
Wouldn't it be easier to file the original hanging nail first before adding all that product? Seems like a waste of gel. Not trying to be negative, but I like to work smarter not harder.

There is more than one way to peel an apple. (while working smarter too)

a really appreciable technique but, in my opinion shortening and reconstructing a hooked nail from scratch saves both time and product.
For myself, I actually find this technique saves me time. Especially if the client has multiple hooked nails ☺️
7 weeks grown out, wow. Why would anyone let it get like that. Seems like it would be hard to do much with nails like that.
My clients come first, which means I don’t always have time to do my own nails. After a long day at work the last thing I want to do is stay late at night to do mine. There’s a saying that says.... if you walk into a salon to get your hair done, see the girl who doesn’t have her own hair done because you know she is the busiest. 😉
Clubbing of the nails like this can sometimes be a symptom of underlying lung diseases
You’re right! This isn’t clubbing though, that looks a bit different
Very helpful!!! Thank You.
