I live in NYC and it’s crazy that the cost of living in Paris is lower compared to NYC. Even when I visited London in 2019, I didn’t find it as expensive compared to NYC, especially compared to the quality of food? Can a Parisian with an average salary afford €1100 rent?
No, French wages are way lower than American ones that's why most people who work in Paris live in the suburbs or even more than an hour away to have a better lifestyle than in the suburbs. Other French cities are way cheaper. An average salary in France is often between 1400 € and 2000 € per month ( even lower for some people ) and landlords often ask you to have an income three times bigger than the rent, that's why students need a garantor.

Honestly, Paris isn't that expensive compared to most US cities. And quality of life is so much better. For example, in the US, if you're lucky you can get a one bedroom for about $900 (I'm using where I am in a city in South Carolina). Electricity is about $40/mo, wifi $56/mo, then groceries about $120/mo. But then you need a car because public transport is garbage, so you have a monthly car payment, gas, insurance, taxes. And there's nothing for free here, restaurants are expensive. ugh. >.< And don't get me started on the phone bill.
On the one end, French is a wellfare state so I do prefer to live in France than in the US. But on the other hand French wages are lower than American ones so yes for a French person with an average French salary Paris is very expensive, especially since we have way cheaper cities. As someone who experienced both city and countryside in France, big cities and suburbs have a lot of public transports ( even if people who work in trains often protest for nothing so your train can be late or cancelled ) but if you live on the countryside away from big cities there isn't many, even not at all in small villages so a lot of French people still need a car.
I’m currently 16 so I have time to plan and study French, but I’ve been stressing on how I’d even move abroad as I nobody I know has moved out of the states. Do I prepay rent for an apartment and try to get a job after I’ve moved? Do I try and get a job before I move? Would it be better to have a roommate? Is the paperwork crazy?? Should I start saving now?? I know I have time before I move but I’ve been having thoughts on me getting stranded in France because I was unprepared
Here we go with this CAF thing. NO France does not give money to foreigners just like that 😒😡 It’s just like welfare in the US. There are requirements to be eligible.
Living in Paris is average or expensive depending on which angle one can look at it. If… only if an average person can make around 3000-3500 euros a month in salary clean money after taxes…. One can live super comfortable in Paris but it’s not the case ….
A small detail, if i understood you correctly for the housing allowance CAF is the entity giving it (caisse d'allocations familiales) and the allowance is the APL (aide personnalisée au logement). It is not for students only but mainly based on previous year income. Foreign students often don't apply to it believing it's only for families, good advice to point its existence!
Do they not have the Carte de Muse any more? You mentioned museums under free fun and waiting in line. We used to get a Carte de Musee weekend pass and could skip the lines.
Hi Tiff, enjoyed this so much . I was wondering how often you have to get your hair done. Many of the prices you mentioned, nails, rent food etc. are very close to the prices here in San Antonio, Texas. But our internet is $140.00 per month.Which includes many channels, but not Netflix, utube or movie channels. Love your show. You are very fun to watch.

Good day, I have a few questions unrelated to the video, can I live in Paris without being fluent in French, or only beginning to learn French and what about crime in Paris. I am a pharmacist (black ), thinking about moving to Paris for retirement .
I believe many people, including Tiffanie (if I’m not wrong), are not yet fluent in the language but live in France. Generally, you don’t need to be fluent to live in France. However, learning as much as you can will only help you in the long run. Of course, you should probably have enough knowledge of the language to get around (shop, ask questions, etc...). Also, there are actually many places in Paris that offer French courses for Anglophones! As for crime, I would say to just be cautious and aware. Just like you would be in any city. To elaborate, I’d say just be aware of the way you carry yourself. I’d say you should walk around confidently and try to make yourself not stand out because pickpockets in Paris tend to target possible tourists. One thing you should know is that you should not sign anything on the side of the street! It is common for pickpockets to have fake petitions so that they can distract you while you’re getting robbed! Generally Paris is a great city and I have no doubt that you’d love it there, but just be mindful!
Setting the intention that I will be living in Paris by this fall.
Me too sis 🙏🏽 It’s looking like early spring 2022 for me !

Google fi is $20 a month if you use wifi for most things.
@@caciliawhy5195 Oooo thank you! I have to have AT&T (required by my apartment complex), but when I move next, I'm definitely going to look into it!
I'm in a large city in the Northeast US. These prices are quite similar to what I'd expect to pay for a similar apartment, restraunt meal, etc.
the fun park that's close to the Louve is definitely a fun thing to do (if its currently open)
Yess are you referring to Jardin du Palais Royale?
Have you ever visited a Sephora in Paris? or USA? how did they compare or contrast. I am so curious.
I know I have time before I move but I’ve been having thoughts on me getting stranded in France because I was unprepared
i’m thinking about moving to paris too i’m 17 rn and confused also
Caf isn't just for students. It's for everybody :)
France gives money to foreigners? Time to move.
Here we go with this CAF thing. NO France does not give money to foreigners just like that 😒😡
It’s just like welfare in the US. There are requirements to be eligible.
@@sarahferguson8967 😂😂😂 thanks for the clarification
It depends on incomes, if your salary is too high CAF doesn't help you.
Great vlog, Tiff! How did you find your apartment, and which arrondissement is it in? Thanks in advance for any response you can provide!
Your hair is amazing
Which arondissment is your apartment in? Working at a place in the 15th arondissement so thinking of getting a place around there but it's pricey.
Thanks for the super helpful info! Would you please share the name/location of the brow threading shop? Merci!!
It's called Stella in Chateau D'eau!
Hey Tiffanie! What arrondissement are you in?
Hi Tiff, enjoyed this so much . I was wondering how often you have to get your hair done. Many of the prices you mentioned, nails, rent food etc. are very close to the prices here in San Antonio, Texas. But our internet is $140.00 per month.Which includes many channels, but not Netflix, utube or movie channels. Love your show. You are very fun to watch.
I usually get my hair done every 6 weeks!! Oh wow $140 a month - I think that's similar to what I was paying in NYC. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I love your videos! I hope I can visit Paris someday soon.
So so helpful!! Thank you 😊💓
You’re so welcome!!
can you share information on where you find furnished apartments in Paris?
Great video Tiffanie! Compared to Amsterdam it is bit more expensive.
can you update a 2022 cost of living? ty!
Hi Tiffany, We're visiting Paris next month through a small University at the top of the city. They've booked us in the 18th, we've never been there, what's It like? Thanks!
What about income tax, housing tax, medical, insurance? Important things like this?
What’s the name of the place you have your eyebrows done? Tks :)
Bonjour Tiff,
L'Atelier des Lumières est-il le musée présenté à Emily à Paris?
Merci
Oui c'est ca!!
I pay $7 in NYC for eyebrow threading, so it's similar to Paris 😉
$7 is an amazing price😍 where do you get that?? Hahah
Btw if you’re looking for something to watch, I have videos from London, Italy and other places where I travel ☺️
What VPN do you use?
Which arrondissement do u live in now and did you find the new apt thru a french broker or is this the sublet?
Headed there next year, where are the best shopping deals?
You have to come for the Paris sales! Once in January and another in June/July!!
Thanks for the video. Quick question: how long are the leasing terms at apartments?
1 year or 3 years, generally.
It was not in the early 60s. Rue Presival 14th.
When I lived in Italy we just never had a tv or a telephone. Costs were high back in the day. Not sure if it is now.
Where did you live in Italy?? 😍
I lived in Milan for 4 years and now make content about life there and London where I’m at the moment ☺️
Really enjoy your vlogs
