I love your transparency of how you define boondooking and your power consumption. Thank you, so much. For those interested, a few ideas I used over the years, because we didn’t have solar or lithium batteries: I have horribly frizzy hair, so for straightening after showering/washing my hair in the early evening after a sweaty day of running, hiking, etc. let my hair partially dry as I’m cooking dinner, then put up in *gigantic* curlers. Take out before going to bed and I have smooth straight hair. Maybe in a very rare instance I’d have to lightly use a hair dryer if my timing was off or more humidity, because don’t want to remove curlers until hair completely dry. Coffee, even at sticks-n-bricks I prefer boiling water for a pour over. I got rid of our coffee pot. Boil water using propane in RV, at home I use an electric kettle. Another option camping is a percolator on propane, but I haven’t tasted that since I’ve become a coffee snob, so no idea if I’d even like it. I have a Fagor multi-cooker at home I love, like instapot. But I just cook the same meals/recipe on RV propane, because I don’t have the electricity available when dry camping. Anyhow, tips not for everyone, just ideas I’m sharing. Love your videos.

Have you considered a second alternator to charge while driving? If properly sized, it should charge your batteries almost as fast as 50 amp shore power.
Such a good video that goes from one spectrum to the other!! Really loved all the numbers on the batteries and amps being used and also the Alpaca being born. Just amazing. Glad you guys are enjoying and as always can’t wait for the next one!!

Glad you like the new batteries. Another good video, Maine is beautiful. I might have expected 2 hours of driving time would have given you more charge. I don’t know how big your alternator is but possibly upgrading to a higher capacity one in the future would be worthwhile.
@@todayissomeday, if your isolator is diode based, that is the biggest reason that your alternator is taking so long to charge. You are better off with a relay based isolator, like the Blue Sea ACR. Between the long wire runs and the losses in the isolator, the batteries are not getting enough voltage to charge the batteries quickly.

Amazing watching the Alpaca be born. What a wonderful thing to see. You have convinced us about the benefits of Harvest Host. Looking forward to learning more about how your BB batteries are working out. Have you tried using the ACs on the batteries yet?
So far from your lithium charging experience via the generator and alternator will you be installing the lithium compatible BIM once you figure out the wiring or is there a need to use it at all? Did you purchase the new Magnum, cables and cutting crimping tools from Amazon? Did you have to lengthen the existing positive and negative cables? I thought for parallel battery set up you need to connect the positive a and negative at opposite ends of the bank? Looks like Harvest Host is the only way to tour the East and be spontaneous since most of the private and federal campgrounds are booked solid by now for summer. We were members but traveling the west most locations it was too hot to dry camp in a HH so we didn’t renew.
Looks like you are using Magnum equipment. You should be able to increase your charge rate so that your generator will not have to run as long. Those BB's I believe are a 1C charge rate.
OK, 3 things about your video: -YMRV deserves a dance of it's own. You know, like another similar sounding abbreviation from the 80's??? Dare ya! - Great great video quality and editing. Just awesome! And the music is brilliant. -We are retired USAF. Did not know about red on Fridays. We are now schooled and will comply! Thanks for the info on that.
Thanks Mark! We will work on the dance..LOL . Stacy works very hard on her editing and music choice....that sometimes is her biggest challenge! Thanks for your service as well. One team, one fight!!! Hand Salute!!!
The Harvest Host is very handy and what an experience. A suggestion on power usage would be to use a surge power strip that shuts off the power to items leeching power ie televisions, computers, chargers (when charge cycle is done)... It'll improve the overall usage with a decrease in power and some extra satisfaction. "Nice Battery Bank"! Don't miss Billy's Chowder House in Wells ME if you go through the corridor again!
You should always add solar before lithium batteries. I added 400 watts of solar with 4 lead acid golf cart batteries. 430 amp hour, so 215 usable. I took a 9 week trip and only put 3.7 hours on my generator. Never went below 50% on the batteries. Used the microwave, George Foreman, and crockpot all the time. Used fans and even the power hungry on board furnace. The only time I needed the generator was in yellowstone because of 3 straight days of snow. We went for the first 7 weeks with zero generator time with boondocking/ dry camping over 90% of the nights. Just add a small amount of solar and you will not need your generator at all, unless you are several days in a row with heavy clouds. Good luck!
Actually, I have heard batteries first and is my plan. Driving charges the batteries. Even just a little extra battery power will get you further than a little solar (ie - if you can afford one battery or one panel). Most people can't afford to do everything right away... 😕
If you drive almost every day than solar is not as important. But I boondock at a location for 3 to 7 days at a time. 400 watts of solar costs less than 25 percent of the cost of (4) 100 amp hour lithiums.
@@ontheroadwithdan5571 Exactly. The right choice is dependent on so many factors. For me, I'm also considering I want to park in the shade, so will be doing portable units when I do solar, so I need to not only store but set them up. I'll probably get 200 watts at some point, to help when I'm planning on parking for more than a few days. But that's it most likely...
Hey you two, welcome to Maine, hope you like our state. Don’t mind the skeeters and the excessive pine pollen this year. Where were you staying at in York? It looked like Stonewall Kitchen. Also, the wiggly bridge in in York, Maine, technically York Harbor, I believe you said Kittery, which is just to the south.
GREAT video, guys; really pretty scenery. Would love to have spent time at the alpaca farm; now, THAT would be cool! Question: Does Harvest Host have recommendation re: running the generator while at HH sites? Or, do the Hosts have input whether you should run the RV generator? Keep 'em coming, guys. Y'all Be Safe!
What size Instant Pot do you have? I have a 6Qt and a 3Qt. I use the 3Qt in our trailer so I’m interested in what the IP did to your batteries. That baby alpaca was adorable! Thanks for sharing.
The east coast in the summer is how I get the Sgt Maj to watch these! So, something I dont think I have seen from you guys, what kind of maintenance do you need to do on the generator in the RV?
For our generator, we have to change the oil and oil filter every 150 hours, then the fuel filter and other items have set hours for there maintenance as well. Check your generators manual for specifics.
I know this video is old- but I hope you have added solar, dc to do charging, and a larger inverter. I just did all this for a customer with a similar sized unit: got around 3600watts of solar on there :)
We love the coast of Maine. Don't miss Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park if you can. Marginal Way in Ogoncuit is a great short hike, too. Visit York Beach if you go there.
Hi. Really enjoy your videos. We are hitting the road for 5 weeks next month. Cant wait to go full time. Question for you? Why didnt you run your generator on the drive to the new spot, that way when you get to the campsite they are fully charged or at least charged up. Just curious if there was a reason. Safe travels. Michael
We really want to stay there but it was booked. We dont have a specific POC. We have talked to almost everyone. Here is the link for the site: battlebornbatteries.com?afmc=2e There phone number is on the contact page or you can send an email. They will help you figure out how many batteries you need for your rig and usage.
Hey Phil, Now with the Battle Born upgrade, I heard you mention using multiple appliances but never mentioned the AC. Can you also run one of the units using battery only?? Maybe you just haven’t needed it yet, lol!! Also have you seen the Kill-a-watt device for identifying systems loads? Looks like a very useful device to document all the volt, amp, etc usage for each item, just plug and play! P4400 Kill A Watt Usage Monitor by P3.......
You can run the A/C with the batteries. According to BB you can run the A/C for one hour per 100 amps with nothing else drawing power. But we havent needed it.
Can’t wait to start our full time RVing adventure but what scares me the most is figuring out how to use the power sources we will have! I’ve tried a few videos about batteries and generators and appliances useage.......Ahhhhh!! Can we put you guys on speed dial when we’re ON THE ROAD!? 😄
New viewer here -- catching up on lots of your videos. Apologies as you may have already answered this question somewhere in the comments -- wondering HOW MANY lithium batteries you have on board when you recorded this video? Have you gotten more lithium batteries since? Thank you -- and so grateful to have found your channel. I appreciate ya'll.
It doesn't cost all that much for solar. You could have easily bought a starter system for the cost of 2 of your batteries, and you would then have the wattage of the solar panels in combination with the batteries to power your RV during the day.
@@todayissomeday The point is that if you are discharging during the day at, say 40 amps per hour, and you are charging at, say 75 amps per hour, you need a lot less batteries in your bank. You are keeping up with the draw during the day while still replenishing what you used during the night. I don't think you are going to find many people who have battle born batteries who do not have solar panels, much less those with 6.
If you are still in Maine, you are welcome to our place. We are near Grafton Notch in the Western Maine Mountains near the Appalachian Trail. We have water and 50 amp too. Enjoy your stay!
Great video i know you said solar later but have you looked into a portable solar or a foldable one they have a 100 watt panle for around $300.00 that would help while you are out it will do a trickle charge
This may have been asked already but can you share how you are running the refrigerator? You listed microwave and fans and lights but how are you keeping your food cold?
So awesome! I'm heading to western PA / NW NY. Wondering if you are having anymore meetups in your travels? Loved this farm. Hoping to try my first HH stop this week!
Cool video. Love hearing the batteries are doing what you want. Thank you for sharing your friends and adventures! Your friends are Life beyond the burbs aren’t they?
Before I had to move home to take care of my mom. I had 15 alpacas. They are so smart, they did not like my man at the time. They would go out of their way to chase him down and spit on him. As well as the goat who would stalk him and knock him in the butt and jump on him after they knocked him over. I could not help but laugh so funny, he would get so mad. I had to get rid of him. I have some friends renting the farm now and taking care of the animals for me. I miss them everyday. Can't get there to much anymore as mom's Parkinson's has progressed to the point where she cannot be alone. Watching you two travel and be free is my dream. One day when my job is over here I will be heading out as well. Love your videos.
Do you have an auxiliary generator specifically for charging your Battle Borne batteries ? Hope you enjoyed your time in our great state of Maine. It is a large state with the best sites off the beaten path . 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
@@todayissomeday Sorry for the confusion. I meant dedicated auxiliary "Alternator" You may want to research it. Talk to your mechanic or knowledgeable RV technician . Or upgrade your existing alternator . It would be worth the investment. whether you have solar or not. It will also extend the life of your batteries. Safe Travels

Alpacas are so sweet! Glad you are enjoying our state. The mosquitoes do seem worse this year. If you need any RV service in the Bangor area, River Road RV Repair (Orrington) is great, and John (the owner) serves in the Air National Guard.
Hey guys awesome video!! Glad the Battle Born upgrade is working so well. Questions on another topic - did you have to dump wastewater tanks at all and where did you do it if you did? Also how often are you having to fill fresh water? Thanks so much!!
Yes, we have dumped. We use Sanidumps and allstays to find locations to dump. Dumps can be found at some gas stations and some campgrounds will let you dump and fill with a small fee. We were lucky enough to fill the water while driveway surfing with a family friend. We saved water by hitting up planet fitness and showering there. Showers are the biggest use of our water and grey tank even with navy showers.

Baby and mama. I didn't want that segment to end.
It was awesome to witness it firsthand!!!
Fun video, like the battery breakdown!
Thanks Troy! We LOVE the batteries!!!
Your in my home state,so enjoy the views, right time of year to visit,
It is so beautiful!
Looks like you are using Magnum equipment. You should be able to increase your charge rate so that your generator will not have to run as long. Those BB's I believe are a 1C charge rate.
Thanks. Phil will look at that.
OK, 3 things about your video:
-YMRV deserves a dance of it's own.
I'm an Air Force Veteran & a VA Retiree as well worked there over 21 years after I got out of the Air Force . Liked the Air Force way better .
Thanks for sharing that baby Alpaca being born.. how wonderful!
It was an amazing experience to be sure.
I grew up in Kittery! Nice town, glad y’all stopped to see the wiggly bridge!
It is a sweet town! The bridge was cool. The lake was beautiful
Surge protectors are always a great option for power saving.
Good luck!
We cant wait to get solar!!
Actually, I have heard batteries first and is my plan. Driving charges the batteries. Even just a little extra battery power will get you further than a little solar (ie - if you can afford one battery or one panel). Most people can't afford to do everything right away... 😕
Of course, depends on your schedule and where you live / amount of sun.
Next Friday I will be wearing my red.👍❤️
Yes!!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
We were at a Harvest Host Brewery
You, Me & the RV ok, now I want to know what brewery in York. Probably not to stay, but to savor the brew.
Newport, RI is nice . Lots of history, mansions, beaches and having a Dels is a must. 😋
Thanks for sharing, What a joy to see the birth !
It was amazing
Glad your are happy with your Lithium Batteries. They sound like they will work great for you.
We are loving them!
All of our HH have allowed us to run the generator whenever needed. I havent seen restrictions but there maybe at a few of them. The farm was amazing!
Hi thanks for the video! How do you usually find the quirky off the beaten path places?
There is actually an app for that called Off Beat Attractions
What size Instant Pot do you have? I have a 6Qt and a 3Qt. I use the 3Qt in our trailer so I’m interested in what the IP did to your batteries. That baby alpaca was adorable! Thanks for sharing.
It is a 6 Qt.
Navy vet, love you guys!
Thanks Jeff. Go Navy!
We love the coast of Maine. Don't miss Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park if you can. Marginal Way in Ogoncuit is a great short hike, too. Visit York Beach if you go there.
We now love it too!! It is so beautiful.
Seeing that birth must have been AMAZING! Thank you for sharing!
It was!!
Michael
We do but we just wanted to test it out.
Do you have a POC at Battle Born? We will be in Reno for ten days, next week. FWIW, we stayed at West Point Famcamp....very nice and great tour of WP.
We really want to stay there but it was booked. We dont have a specific POC. We have talked to almost everyone. Here is the link for the site: battlebornbatteries.com?afmc=2e There phone number is on the contact page or you can send an email. They will help you figure out how many batteries you need for your rig and usage.
Hey Phil,
Now with the Battle Born upgrade, I heard you mention using multiple appliances but never mentioned the AC.
Hugs to you guys! Great information! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Another great video! The alpaca birth was a real bonus.
It was so awesome to be there.
It is not a tough learning curve. We felt the same way when we hit the road.
Another great video guys, keep it up. Miss you and wished we were up there chasing you around too. Lucky Al and Angie......
We really miss you guys! Cant wait until the gang is all reunited.
Great to see how much those batteries are making life easy !!
Loving them as I am sure you are as well
New viewer here -- catching up on lots of your videos.
That is true but we wanted max battery amps. We will be getting solar we just couldnt do it all at once.
Going to replace my two lead acid batteries with two battle born batteries next week. Can’t wait!!!!!!!
Awesome! You are going to love them!
If you are still in Maine, you are welcome to our place. We are near Grafton Notch in the Western Maine Mountains near the Appalachian Trail. We have water and 50 amp too. Enjoy your stay!
I bet you have some killer views up there! We are way down on the coast but maybe during our next visit through.
Great video i know you said solar later but have you looked into a portable solar or a foldable one they have a 100 watt panle for around $300.00 that would help while you are out it will do a trickle charge
We have talked about it and if we cant do solar by the end of the year we will get a suitcase panel for sure.
This may have been asked already but can you share how you are running the refrigerator? You listed microwave and fans and lights but how are you keeping your food cold?
Through our lithium batteries and inverter while boondocking.
@@todayissomeday Thank you! I was wondering when I didn't hear it mentioned.
Maine is on our bucket list!
Can you run your generator when you are driving? Charge the batteries while driving.
Yes, and we do
So awesome! I'm heading to western PA / NW NY. Wondering if you are having anymore meetups in your travels? Loved this farm. Hoping to try my first HH stop this week!
We will have meet ups but not sure when yet. We are moving a little fast right now so soon as we sit somewhere for more than 2 days
Woooow! I loved the video footage from the Wiggly Bridge area. Just stunning. Reinforced how much I'd like to visit Maine.
It is so beautiful.
Beautiful video !!!!!!!!!!
Wow, sweet adventures! Thx for sharing this. Red Friday.... hmm I never heard of this and we are Retired Navy... gotta ask Hubby about it! 🙏🏻😀
Thanks Vera. The RED Friday's are a military thing....not necessarily a Navy thing.
Fellow Veterans Thank You for your Service .
If you’re ever in New York come see Watkins glen and Ithaca it’s beautiful! We will offer our land for boon-docking as well!
Thanks! We may have to take you up on that offer.
FYI The Wiggly Bridge is located in York, ME.
I have roots in Canton Maine when you go to New Hampshire stop at Gorham and Mt Washington you would love it
Thanks for the tips
Cool video. Love hearing the batteries are doing what you want. Thank you for sharing your friends and adventures! Your friends are Life beyond the burbs aren’t they?
Yes they are and you can find them on facebook.
I would miss the alpacas too! They are so sweet.
The vaby Alpaca was so cool! Thanks for sharing!
It was amazing to be there for that.
@@todayissomeday i bet! I saw a calf being born as a kid. It's amazing they try to walk right away!
@@christinapittsley786 It is pretty cool right!?
@@todayissomeday very cool...makes you think about how small and insignificant we are :)
Do you have an auxiliary generator specifically for charging your Battle Borne batteries ? Hope you enjoyed your time in our great state of Maine. It is a large state with the best sites off the beaten path . 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Our rig has an onboard Onan 8000 watt generator. It is not exclusively for the batteries.
Absolutely awesome!!
Thank you!
What a great video! The alpaca birth was amazing. We love hearing the details about the batteries. Oh AND we spent months in Maine last summer so it’s fun to see that beautiful state once again. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. RED on Fridays!
We are loving it up here. The pics really do not do it justice.
Awesome video! Thank you!
Thanks Paula!!
Alpacas are so sweet! Glad you are enjoying our state. The mosquitoes do seem worse this year. If you need any RV service in the Bangor area, River Road RV Repair (Orrington) is great, and John (the owner) serves in the Air National Guard.
Thanks for the tip Haven On Wheels!!!
If those batteries save campground time they are saving money and solar will help even more.
Good call
Exactly Lee!
Not going to Vermont? Not much boondocking as small state but State Parks, etc. great!
It is on the list but I dont think we will it it this go around.
You guys rock. The wife and I when I retire here in about 2 years we want to do long term rving. Keep it up. Go Air Force!
Thank you for your service so Go Navy!
Thank You for Serving . I'm an old Air Force Veteran . I served ' 71 - ' 75 .
Make sure your converter is off. I forget to kick it off when coming off a shore power situation . Love your work....
Had my first wedding reception where you are (Redhook)
Very cool. It is beautiful up here.
@@todayissomeday Much nicer in the summer than the winter, I live in NC now. We're full timing starting next year though
@@johnbarry1144 Yes, I am sure it is! I am not a fan of all that cold.
Showers are the biggest use of our water and grey tank even with navy showers.
should checkout some of the LL Bean discovery classes normally $25 free through 6/26? archery, standup paddle boarding, etc
I didnt know about that!
