  • Alex "Hurricane" Higgins was a Snooker Genius! He played some of the best ever Snooker Shots! In this clip, Alex shows in two brilliant pots why many regard him as one of the most talented players to ever to pick up a cue!
One is an amazing pot on the Pink Ball up the rail. The second is an incredible one-handed pot from an acute angle into the middle pocket!

The Hurricane, Alex Higgins, was World Champion in 1972 and 1982, and runner-up in 1976 and 1980. He won the UK Championship in 1983 and the Masters in 1978 and 1981, making him one of eleven players to have completed snooker's Triple Crown. He was also World Doubles champion with Jimmy White in 1984, and won the World Cup three times with the All-Ireland team.
Higgins came to be known as the "People's Champion" because of his popularity, and is often credited with having brought the game of snooker to a wider audience, contributing to its peak in popularity in the 1980s. He had a reputation as an unpredictable and difficult character.
Alex Higgins still holds the highest break to win a World Championship, being 135 in the 1982 final against Ray Reardon.

It would take me at least 10 attempts with a bridge hand on the table to pot that Black in the middle. And as for the Pink! :-)

I loved the cavalier attitude to positional play as 9/10 his incredible potting ability would get him out of trouble. Watch him playing pool for example, drunk as a skunk he proceeds to utterly obliterate the American opposition without even trying . It’s a marvel to behold . Him and Jimmy were a force to be reckoned with …

“Try and visualise it, believe it, anything is possible” Mutted under his breath just before he pots the black with one hand! Incredible

I've watched this lots of times, but I still enjoy watching it. I find some of his shots played under pressure more impressive though. Other players struggle to replicate them, when there's no pressure at all.

I still can't believe that Pink down the cushion, with the cueball being so close to it! And as for the Black into the middle one handed straight after it....!

He was too good for his own wellbeing. He knew he was a genius, and he felt that would not leave him however much he drank.....unfortunately he was wrong. God Bless Alex Higgins.

To do this in the middle of a clear cocaine/alcohol high is pretty impressive, even considering that these club pockets are far more receptive!

The most talented player ever,no one is close to this guy. As Davis once said, the only true genius snooker has ever produced.Ronnie would pull these 2 in 1 try only in his dreams...Not even in his dreams since he isnt even able to visualise these. No hate to Ronnie,he s a genius too but different type of genius. He s still one of the best players ever and great talent, but Alex's talent was second to none.

Agreed, I'd love to have seen Alex at his best vs Ronnie. Two of the true greats of the game! And I know who I'd be backing to win! :-) #LoveSnooker
