I am a 51-year-old tenured Professor with two doctorates that teaches in graduate and doctorate programs. I deal with young people the age of BTS members all day every day and these young men are exceptional. BTS is not a Kpop Idol group. They have transcended that label to ambassadors of goodwill and culture to the world. There are many times when I work with students that do not feel they have a voice because others in power may retaliate if they say anything. I appreciate the view that they have made their decision, but in reality, they have simply taken control from the government's hands. Good on them. However, trust in BTS does not equate to Trust in South Korea Will I support BTS? YES! I will line up for concert tickets in the US or another country if this is possible. I will wait until they come back. I will support them in any way I can while they move through this process. While BTS members keep promises, circumstances can change their ability to do so. A firestorm of ill will toward the country will result if any harm (physical or psychological) occurs to a member during service. Either of these could make it impossible for them to return to their calling. BTS asked for trust and support, and they have mine. I believe every one of these young men is a high-caliber artist who is transparent and authentic and spreads positivity and healing worldwide. As they have stated themselves, this does not mean that they are free to tell us everything or explain what is happening to them because of this situation. All of us have the right to reach out and voice our views surrounding BTS being used and their value diminished by their country. This may make no difference to the outcome, but I cannot in good conscience do nothing. Even as concerned as I have been, I waited expecting the government to do the honorable thing. I genuinely believe BTS is the most influential group of my lifetime. To lose them as a representative of South Korean culture because of short-term political or military gains is a travesty. Can we wait until 2025, absolutely! That is not the issue. This is about the value these young men have added to their country politically, economically, and culturally. They have earned that exemption. I sent a 3-page letter to all of the government emails and the tourism agency on this list. In addition, I faxed the letter to three different Minister offices in the South Korean government and posted it on a 2030 World Expo youtube video. Each Minister completed a portion of the college education in the US or UK. Reading the letter will not be an issue. I plan on canceling several orders for major electronics from Samsung as well as stopping using beauty products and other items. My plans to visit South Korea are now over. This is about control, not service. The military can put these young men in uniform and use them to recruit, dictate behavior, and craft statements to Army. All Army and citizens of South Korea need to realize that while any of these young men are serving in the military, comments they make cannot be viewed as representative of what they, individually or as a group, believe. Those in power can dictate scripts and order BTS members to deliver the message. Such is the nature of the military. The reputation and trust in BTS will be used as leverage to achieve political goals regardless of the damage it does to the country's reputation or the spirit of these young men. Statements made by BTS can only be taken at face value if they are free from the control of their military and politicians. It would not be surprising to learn that the President, Politicians, Minster of Defense, and other military officers plan on using BTS to recruit; want to meet your favorite BTS member, join now. Take all the pictures you like. You may room with them or see them in the shower. Don't like BTS; you too can have an opportunity to tell them to their face. Need a favor? Use your imagination on how this can play out for them. Frankly, I do not know the name of one S. Korean Olympic athlete or classical musician. If I learned that a South Korean won all awards in their area of expertise, this would not stir any need to know more about S. Korea. I understand the challenges for the development of rules for Kpop artist exceptions. However, BTS is in another category on the world stage. I know of no other international artists put before the US White House Press Corp or invited to spend significant time with the President of the United States. How many people watched a UN assembly for the first time simply because BTS was speaking? I have never listened to music in another language before or considered learning another language to simply better understand the beauty of the lyrics. Not even as a teen or young woman did I emotionally invest in a group as I have with this one. These young men's positive messages spread across all lines of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, and language. They are national/world treasures and should be treated as such. If you feel it would be helpful and want to share, here is a link to the two different versions of the letter I've sent or emailed. I still do not feel like I said enough or really captured the true worth of these young men, but I had to stop somewhere. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ntcDtYBw4toZ8R-8vmJSaNBYiuQF5TcI?usp=sharing My two cents :)
Same here but I'm 61 and have one doctorate. These young men are so much more important as ambassadors for Korea than what they can offer in the military. They should be exempted to provide what they are so good at, bringing Joy and happiness to the world. Not to mention the billons for the economy.....
Very well said I fully agree with all that you wrote 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have been hoping that the Govt would do the right and sensible thing, but no, greed took over, now they will pay the price. If our Guys are forced to go I just pray that they are safe, my greatest fear, the SK military is not known for its care of its members physically or mentally. 😢💜
What is crazy is that the Government gave them Diplomatic Passports, named the Presidential Envoys and then gets invited to the White House in the US!! What other Korean artist or Gold Medalist has done that!! Yet they still don’t want to recognize them for what they have done for their country?? Does everyone in the world know who the Olympian and Classical artist is from Korea? Don’t think so! No one travels there to buy their merch. And things they eat do they? NO!
💯 ..I so totally agree with you!!! ..ask us the names of the members of BTS...AND WE ALL KNOW WHO THEY ARE!!! #kimnamjoon #kimseokjin #minyoongi #junghoseok #parkjimin #kimtaehyung #jeonjungkook
don't worry guys deinitely korean tourism will decrease and korean economy will definitely has a impact and just wait for our boys to return and haters now will have no excuse to bark about our boys and focus on your dreams save the money so we can go to their concert when they returned and jimin said they will do concerts again
I feel the Korean government has truly brought dishonor upon itself as far as BTS is concerned. As a baby Army and an outsider, all I’ve seen is BTS’ fame and status being used by the government for its gain. It’s shameful how they are using them. Also, with the world on the brink of war, we need BTS out there spreading messages of peace and love and togetherness. I was seriously consider looking for work in South Korea. Not now.
Please post your comments on this to wverse if you can all the 15 years are telling me to chill out rather than take a proactive stance towards government. That's part of the problem of their fan base. A lot of young girls that have not seen what can happen to young men in military and war.
I wholeheartedly agree! As far as the ‘fairness’ issue goes then ‘ALL’ those (Olympic athletics, etc.) exempted should go! I can’t wait to see how the the Country is going to handle the HUGE REDUCTION in revenue losses that will be incurred over the next few years. Don’t feel too bad about the lack of action on your government’s part, we’re just as messed up here. I will remain loyal to BTS & refuse to listen to other artists. Thanks to BTS, I have expanded my horizons in purchases of Korean products, but no longer. Enough is enough!
Have you looked up what that government stands for? The enlistment issue is the tip of the iceberg! They are despicable but that’s typical of “conservative” populist hate mongers. They wouldn’t know honourable behaviour if their life depended on it! Also important to note; the current president has NOT served in the military, he used the exemption system he now wants to get rid of. I wonder how many are aware of this fact. It’s just sad the boys coincided with them being in office 😔
@@janvdb9258 what fairness? I don't know any popular classical musicians, olympics are just 1 time events while BTS work their ass every year and put South Korea to the map, before them all I know about Korea is missile and Kim Jung Un I didnt even know Hyundai and Kia is a product from South Korea, and not fucking care about that country till BTS came.
I think Big Hit's announcement right after the success of Busan (and their economic impact there) was a stroke of genius. The concert and all the activities showed the country exactly how big and influential BTS is globally.
@@somya3575 The USA president invited them to the White House in order to boost his popularity, that should mean something. Their brand has for around 6 years generate between 3 or 4 billions dollars of direct income to South Korea plus one something billion more in indirect gains. Meaning their brand has been responsible for 0.5% of the whole country PIB for some years, not Hybe nor Big Hit, nor K-POP, BTS. Actually the most viewed video by far of the UN is the one of their last presentations. Most of the videos hardly reach 1000 views. I am sure ARMY at least knows that there is a mental health campaign from the UN and UNICEF but I am sure few know about the Kyoto Protocol or Paris Agreement or the birth control campaigns that are incredibly funded by the UN. Korea and Japan are incredibly isolated cultures that have got a boost of interest because of the arts. People are interested in Korea because K-Pop in the same way Manga and Anime has created a whole turism field for Japan. Considering how huge the entertainment industry is in China we have more content from Japan and Korea than the same China, and BTS has impulsed that in some measure for Korea. Hybe was one of the best value companies when it started to be valued in the markets. South Korea in 2024 has 51.7M inhabitants. 49M ARMY watched in one stream platform BTS free concert making it possible than most people than their whole country watched them on-line at that moment, at least in my country it meant to be awake at 3:00am. It is as if we might ask what The Beatles made for their country or Michael Jackson or even Madonna. They have sold out the biggest venues for concerts like Wimbleydon in a matter of days which means a huge mobilization of people around the globe just because they want to watch a BTS concert. You just do not dedicate a whole week to one theme in Las Vegas just because. But Las Vegas created a whole BTS theme because of the concerts they had there even when Grammys was being celebrated there too. A world expo has been the stepping stone for cities such as Barcelona to be reborn again and Busan had a huge economic bost just because BTS had a concert there. Paris is one of the cities with the most tourists by year and before the pandemy it meant around 25,000 by day. Busan was expecting 4 times that from all the world because BTS. That is the economic impact of BTS.
@@somya3575 beyond their music and lyrics (which have touched and influenced their fans' positive actions and emotions), they have been UNICEF partners and ambassadors since 2017, working against violence against children and young adults, profits from a series of albums and merchandise funding different programs and initiatives, they've been invited to and spoken in front to the UN general assembly three times to help share and spread their messages, they've been invited to the White House by the president to help the anti-hate programs that address the rise in hate crimes committed against Asians during the pandemic, they've influenced their ARMY to help their communities in improving everything from access to education, food, the environment, and themselves, ARMY will tell you how BTS has saved them, we'll tell you how much we love their personalities, their appreciation and love for us, and how they constantly urge us to love and improve ourselves (no matter how much we stumble and fail), we'll tell you we hail from all over the globe
@@somya3575 they had over 100,000 people go to Busan for a 1 day (1 DAY!!!) concert which floods the local economy with income. Busan itself said it revived the city. They collaborate with international megastars in the music industry. The Korean government has ruined all the good will that BTS created. I was saving to travel there during Spring Break (I work at a school) but there is no way I'm going now. I wonder how many people feel like I do.
My bestie friend and I always take a girls trip every summer. Next summers travel destination was between SK and Iceland and we chose South Korea. See you next summer, Iceland! 😊
This is EXACTLY why we told everyone who attended the Busan concert, traveled there from overseas, to write on their arrival forms that the REASON for coming to Korea is "Other: BTS" - they are the reason they are getting all of the attention and business and economic bolstering. Like calm down. We are here for BTS and BTS only. No one does it like them. We are LOYAL. To them. F the politicians for playing this procrastination, push-pull game for YEARS - all the while Korea has been benefiting from BTS's success. Ball is in their court now. *We* can wait for the boys. The government and Korean businesses can't.. they'll see in the news first thing tomorrow when the stock market re-opens ;P Either way, ARMY can wait and still be fed with HYBE's vault of BTS content. Smart move by HYBE. I'm sure they've been planning for this move since they agreed to the free concert for the Busan Expo... and paid for it themselves (by sponsors who've been supporting them and benefiting directly from their success too).

I think it would be a shame for such a great group to be sidelined until 2025. They really are special and bring a lot of happiness. They’ve brought so much to Korean economy and have generated interest in Korean culture. If anyone deserves exemption they do.
1. i personally think that BTS needs this 'break'. 2. Let BTS get out of the limelight for some time so that those who want to take advantage of them will move on. ....... By the way, this includes the rest of the Kpop industry 3. I also think that this will give BTS members a chance to live a 'normal' life.
Also, Army is for BTS forever.. our money is theirs but let the rest of the SK economy and government "Fuck around and Find out" the strength of BTS and their ARMY
BTS does deserve the exemption, seven guys who gave their youth to a country we barely heard about, today South Korea is talked about because of BTS' success, they didn't earn anything from the government, they worked hard to be where they are. The exemption is more than deserved
but the thing is even if they were granted exemption, the government give up on that idea. We all saw how the government is. as bad as it sounds, maybe it’s better this way because the wait would hurt them even more. i’m so worried about him… We’ll see
They didnt give their youth to their country. They gave their youth to become music stars which they are well paid for. Most non-ignorants knew about Korea way before the Hallyu wave (the Hallyu wave from dramas, kpop, food etc was happening for a decade before BTS were huge). BTS are valuable commodities but mostly for themselves and their country. This is about fairness to alll Korean men who sacrifice. The whole exemption and in my opinion the conscription system needs to be reexamined without BTS being part of the conversation
@@youarestronger am an international army and I couldn't agree more with you, there should be no exemption in fairness to all body able man in South Korea that has to serve
@@youarestronger I teach English as a 2nd language and have a few Korean businessmen. They read news articles to practice and a few weeks ago they all had chosen articles about the exemption. They all pretty much said that at this point they're just starting to feel bad for BTS. They all said they think they should serve to keep their honor and hard earned respect but also that they thought they deserved exemption more than most who have gotten it. One man said they're human beings not a product and the way they're being used is disgusting and starting to become clear to the general population. I just thought it was interesting insight to share here. I want them to go. It ends all this and they won't be beholden to anyone. The government would hold that exemption over their heads forever.
@@SoraiaNakib I could be wrong, but I took it as in: ARMYs will still exist in 2025, we're not going anywhere even if they're not around. Like.. not to victimize ourselves but to encourage Bangtan letting them know we'll still be here hehe

When it became apparent that the original venue of the Busan Concert posed a significant security treat to BTS and ARMY. We made our voices heard and the venue was changed. What has previously happened to other idols makes me believe that BTS faces another treat. Instead of relying on people who have short changed BTS, at every turn. Let's relay on ourselves instead. We have already proven we can move mountains if we stand together.

@@mr.minswife1503 Best case scenario, our voices are heard. Worse case, they' ll ignore us. There's no harm in trying. Just do your part and be at peace. FYI Don't feed the trolls. Those who don't get won't.
I think if there’s a petition going around boycotting Korean products and avoid traveling to Korea will get their attention. I am respecting the guys decision to enlist but doesn’t mean we can’t prove their worth. Their government needs to see how strong ARMY is!
I'm in for international fans to boycott traveling to SK or buying their products! I was planning family trip next summer, trying to learn basic community skills but I will not go until BTS return!!! We need to stand army strong! BTS as been doing so much and they will recognized their work once they enlist without feeling obligated to answer their beck and call!! BTS and Army forever!!💜💜💜💜💜💜🇯🇲🇺🇸
It's unbelievable that the government can't come up with ideas for BTS to "perform their military service together as ambassadors for Korea." Take the word exemption off the table & replace it with alternative service. I can think of at least 10 different alternative service plans. How can a country turn its back & ignore BTS's contribution to Korea's economy, cultural representation, & goodwill? Where is the politician standing up for what's right? Since I'm not a South Korean citizen, I have no influence with politicians. BUT my dollars do. I will definitely be boycotting Korean products & travel.
I think the same! the unfortunate truth the hypocritical government that did not exempt them and did not recognize anything of all the achievements of bts !! I still don't understand why they didn't wait until December to see what the government finally said, but I think the company sends them to look good in Korean society! Also pathetic is hibe who never defended them or claimed an exemption for them! now they cut their careers years and we know that the service is hell and many idols have suffered horrible things there! it really makes me mad that bts being the world star that he is put up with that! Has no sense! For having 7 more people in the army when outside they give billions to the economy, prestige and tourism and they have done many free things for the government: UN, expo, etc.
If contributing BILLIONS to the Korean economy…SERVING as Ambassadors…Creating a TOURISM BOOM…isn’t enough for a Military, partial or full exemption then KOREA CAN KISS THEIR ECONOMIC & TOURISM BOOM BUH-BYE😘
I was thinking the same thing. I read today that was mentioned that hybe and bighit have other artists that will pull in money while BTS are away. In my head they dont pull in as much as BTS does. I support what ever BTS does and ARMY will be behind them all the way.
Exactly. Out of all the decisions of BTS in particular and Bighit in general, this is the one I feel most satisfied with. I firmly believe that this is a smart move, the Korean government and country need to endure a lot of pressure and damage to be able to see the full power and influence of our 7 boys. . I'm sure that if the ARMY community boycotted all Korean products/services (except for supporting BTS's music activities) there would be results.
there is nothing good that they decided to go, they will stop their careers in their prime to go and have a bad time!!!! 💔 they surely want to continue with their music and not be locked up there
My daughter was was into kPop for several years. Then she was diagnosed with cancer about 2 years ago. BTS had such a positive message that I think watching their videos and live streams saved her life. The gov’t needs to recognize that BTS is more than a group. They have made life change for Many people and should be recognized for this.
Like they care. The politicians only care about themselves. It makes me angry how they just milking and exploit BTS. They have no shame at all. Look how they treat BTS and until last minute end up saying they will not pay for the event and dump everything to BTS and Hype where the event supposedly for their gain and not for BTS.
Sean said that people who want to peacefully accept Bighit's announcement can do so. He also said that we can make our voices heard if that is what we want to do. Those who don't want to do anything please don't get in the way of those who do. We respect you choice, please respect ours.
In 2018, BTS brought $3.6 billion dollars to the South Korean economy. Conscripting BTS is "the shot heard round the world" as the Korean government shoots themselves in the foot. BTS are flooding the world with positive connections to Korean culture. They are the best ambassadors Korea has and, make no mistake, it's the cooperation with the US which gives SK the strongest support against North Korea. Korean officials, do yourselves a favor and give BTS alternative military service. I will keep fighting until the ink is dry for BTS to be given alternative service.
Well said! Its so unfair!! that's how it is! I agree with you! all bts wants is to be free to continue doing concerts and music! as you say, it's too much to ask!??? after everything they have given to korea!! It is incredible that they exempt thousands of people who have no influence in any way and who do not contribute even 5% that bts and many children of politicians and rich. and they do not exempt bts who have done gigantic and historic things. And what saddens me the most is that they could have so much more! They are at the peak of their careers! and in good physical and mental health and love the group. separating for years and not seeing each other because they are locked up in SM is already horrible for them 💔 It really hurts me.. they couldn't act for years due to covid and now this! They do not take away the best years of youth!
I am so proud of BTS for taking matters in their own hands, eventhough I feel that after all this time they're actually forced to do that. They have to move on at some point and make plans. I'm pretty furieus at the SK government for dragging this for years, meanwhile using BTS's name for their own benefit all this time. If these big companies have a big hand in politics, I really don't understand why they haven't spoken up themselves. BTS have contracts with Samsung, Hyundai, Lotte World. These companies could've stepped up. I'm not really sure how the BTS members themselves feel about serving in the military. They have been saying they will serve when calIed. I have a feeling they are just saying they will be honoured to serve for courtesy. They are obligated, and if they would not, the blame would be on them. So unfair, and I can't even imagine the pressure they must've felt the past years. Making money for everyone, being good examples, being ambassadors, special envoys, product sellers, spokesmen, Seoul-selling, uniting people, bring positive messages and at the same time needing to be creative and produce good music and content for the World. The SK government really fkd up here, and should've treated BTS with so much more respect after what they have brought to their country the past years. I'm from Europe, and a few years ago I didn't blink twice at SKorea. No offense, just never thought about it. Thanks to BTS, there's now Korean culture events here, you can buy Kimchi, ramen noodles and seeweedcrisps in the convenientstores. That wouldn't have happened (that fast), if it wasn't for BTS. Just a small example. But seeing the political choices made by the government lately, it really makes me hesitant as to like the country. BTS could've served in an alternative way, or shorter time, they certainly deserve to. I have never ever heard of any artist from S Korea that has accomplished what BTS has done worldwide. Never heard of any of the athletes or musicians that díd get exempted. BTS deserve a choice and respectful treatment from their government. I wish they would have a freedom of choice. But that freedom no longer exsists, because whatever they would decide now, it would backlash at them. I hope they get through this militairytraining allright, because being this big and famous could lead to trouble for them in these training days. Time for this government to step up and protect their gems. Pretty pissed, not because I, and all Army, will have to miss them, but because I hate the hypocrisy and unfairness. I can only have respect for the way BTS is handling this as they do, but they shouldn't have had to.
I got this notice at 3am US time, at first I was shocked, then saddened and disappointed, yet I'm so proud of the guys for taking this decision back and showing once again the integrity of their character.. This is one of the reasons why I love them n became an Army.. In a way it's like calling the governments bluff😥💜
I agree with you...I think they are calling the government's bluff. And, I think they will not be required to serve the full term. I think the country will suffer so badly financially...it will backfire on the government. The government pushed this too far. It's like Japan giving up Toyota. It simply makes no sense.
I think the Korean government have missed a big opportunity to save face and restructure the military conscription model here. They could have used this to say, yes you have to serve BUT we are going to move to a model where those who would normally get exemptions will not and then lay out a model where idols and money makers now can serve in a national-guard style model. Then everybody wins. Korea (like most developed nations) is facing a population crisis, and is going to need to road map themselves out of it where national security is concerned. Maybe it's time to stop "equal" conscription and start making career soldiering a viable model for many people. I'm just throwing some things out there... Also, as far as BTS enlisting - I think they pulled a power move and decided to make the decision for themselves instead of letting the old men make all the decisions.
Also, if I'm BTS/BigHit/Hybe I'm doing ZERO things for Yoon's government from this point forward. Sorry folks, we are busy, lots on the calendar. No coffee. No tea. No nothing. Zero. You've lost me. I'm out to protect my own. The end.
There's this strange disturbance in the Force about your idea. While these are actually not bad ideas and planning, there's the thought behind what would happen if the politicians did this, such as: inner turmoil. If the "money makers" get this grand deal (in the eyes of some), then why can't other soldiers? Why should idols and other entertainment figures get such a sweet deal of national guard and anything else that'll make their time enlisted "easier" over the men and women who are in the harder ranks? You see what I mean? Envy is a nasty thing and it's bound to spill over into something ugly if the government did anything to soften BTS's service. I'm not making excuses, but I'll bet this one is something they'd use if questioned.
@@MrTobi013 I really didn’t mean only for an elite group, I’m sorry it came off that way. I’m more saying that zero people get exemptions for their athletic skills, classical music, or chip-making abilities. Everyone serves, and here’s a model where you can still have your career but also fulfill your duty to national defense. Other laws (making money on active duty) might have to be amended, but there’s few reasons why it wouldn’t work. I think BTS just enlisting throws shade on all those fools who are like - my career will suffer - well…can’t argue that too much now can you?
Also, I’m a US vet, married to a soldier, with a soldier for a kid. I would not want to serve under the current conditions. No one wants to be completely secluded from their lives and have little contact with their family, friends & support system. Let alone give up 100% of their autonomy for 18 months. There are better ways that don’t completely denigrate the human while still teaching & preparing him to fight if necessary. But I also am VERY willing to concede that there are cultural considerations that I have not even thought about once that can blow my entire argument out of the water, so to speak. Please don’t think I’m a high-n-mighty American, I am not.
The SK government continued to value those trying to make names for Korea under the western paradigms (Olympics and classical music) and discarding the one chance they have to take the lead in global popular culture. How out of touch can they get.
It is patently evident to the whole world that BTS should NOT be required to enlist - they have done more for SK business & SK promotion than anyone else. The government SNOBBERY in giving classical musicians, Olympic athletes, etc exemptions is obvious & nauseating. *Thanks for the SK links in the title* 💜
Also, Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min only had to do a three-week mandatory military service in South Korea. He was given an exemption from the mandatory 21-month military service. BTS deserve this too.
@@House0fHoot see this is the thing, I think we all would have been happy with some kind of compromise like that. They go in for some basic training for a few weeks or months, then done. I struggle with the fact that they are willing to give these cushy exemptions to the top of their pet categories (including elite children, from what I keep hearing), but with BTS they haven’t done enough? What a joke! I heard the government wanted them to do their service on a part time basis in between their band schedule for 3 years, where they would also have to forfeit their earnings. If that was the best they could offer, no wonder they came out and said they will just enlist. This way they are only forfeiting 18 months for a period of 18 months, no strings attached. They deserved an exemption, or even a decent compromise. They didn’t deserve this exemption talk for years, with all this contentious debate, only to wait to the very last minute and leaving them no choice but to just say “F it, we’re going”. Mind you it’s possible they would never have taken an exemption since they never asked for it, but last April it was looking like they were waiting to see if the laws were going to change. I just think they deserved more recognition from their government. I just hope their security and privacy isn’t breached while they are in there.
I agree with everything you've said, the government is just afraid to change the status quo. Football and EPL are big in my country too but the only reason I know Son Heung Min's name is because of that Run BTS episode!!!

I do support exemption because I see the value of BTS to korean culture. I myself at 56 (now 59) fell for Tae in his part in KDrama as a KDrama novice. I then researched him and found BTS. After becoming an Army, I fell in love with all that is Korean. Learning Korean language & culture with the goal of visiting one day. This i see has been the experience for millions of international Army.
Agree with everything...but its been 10 years with so many achievements but the kpop world have never accepted nor respected BTS...BTS dont needto seek respect from these ANTIS AND HATERS, ALL BTS NEEDS IS ARMY...
@@ofakala6974 that's true , they have been constantly working since 2013 and making immensely beautiful and meaningful , deep songs and have been achieving milestones which they deserve but still aren't respected and accepted by many
For all the amazing time BTS gave us, we need to do more. Let's do something - Something to help them fight the rigidity of all the systems. Let's show our response. We love BTS and we need BTS.
alina, you are so right! That's how I think! ARMIES from all over the world should have made a MASSIVE protest and ask that they recognize the achievements of bts as they deserve and give them the exemption !! even now they could still do it! It's horrible to see them leave one by one and that the group die for years!! when they didn't deserve that!! They deserved to continue with their lives, enjoy after all the effort, be able to do concerts that they couldn't do due to the pandemic and be able to meet as they want! the service is horrible and they are really going to have a hard time. It is absurd to put the 7 most talented guys on the planet who dominate the music industry, they now have huge stadiums in 1 hour of ticket sales! in a meaningless military service!! but the sad thing is that army "ate the pill that they want to go" which is ridiculous because it is known that the sm is hell and how bad many idols have had it! It's stupid to think that they want to leave a microphone to grab a weapon!! more bts!!
I just did my part and emailed the Korean tourism organization. It was a polite and respectful email expressing my concerns and perspectives. I let them know I’ll spend my vacation money elsewhere in light of the enlistment news. Proud of BTS for taking their destiny in their hands. Borahae 💜💜

I am thoroughly disgusted in the SK government but commend our BTS men for taking the upper hand in this controversy that never should have been one!!! The SK Gov't owe BTS gratitude and praise for everything that they have done for the country. All these guys wanted was to do their music and perform for their Army around the world! It wasn't asking that much!! These boys have played by the rules for 10 yrs and deserved & earned an exemption!!!! I have started writing letters to the officials that were against the exemption and told them that they are selfish, should be down on their knees thanking BTS and that they are now going to find out just how much their pocketbooks are going to hurt and that it is what they deserve!!! So Army let's do this: BOYCOTT ALL SK PRODUCTS STARTING 2023 UNTIL BTS RETURNS!!!! Let's show them just how much of an impact BTS and BTS Army have on their economy!!!
that's how it is!
Visiting SK was not on my bucket list, until I was introduced to BTS. Saw them in concert in 2019 with my family. BTS is the only thing our family agreed on . Then I booked a trip for my family to visit SK the following Summer but COVID happened and the trip was postponed. We planned on going next Summer, but now I will change our destination. We will not be visiting SK after all. This is because I don’t feel the SK govt deserve my money and time after how they treated BTS, their national treasure. Idk but this whole Busan concert thing where they made BTS pay for the concert they didn’t planned on doing in the first place, now with their decision not to give military exemption to BTS just left a bad taste in my mouth.
Exactly! Forced them into being ambassadors, used them for their fame and influence, then make them pay for the concert they were asked to do??? Utterly ridiculous!!! No wonder even South Korean nationals announced their support for Saudi Arabia's bid for the 2030 World Expo.
BIGHIT should now make an in-house/private announcement to all their business partners letting them know that all endorsement deals are on hold until ALL members complete their enlistments. I think that will be more powerful a message: basically notifying all BTS are 7, they present as 7- they don’t individually endorse products (paid). THAT will speak volumes! No advertising for Hyundai, Samsung, FILA, Conway Bodyfriend etc. oh and this also includes ALL tourism advertising aswell. (Asia Cup- Busan Expo). Also, no “special exemptions” while serving too. If the government don’t think BTS is special enough to warrant exemption well they shouldn't be special enough to get a different deal while carrying out that enlistment- no one else does. They shouldn’t be expected to serve AND continue to work for the SK economy.
All of BTS taking a stand together to enlist and pull their request for an exemption is a power move in their favor. They now are not waiting for an answer. The excuse that BTS is just trying to get out of military service is now gone. I feel that Army needs to still ask the government for an exemption. I think pulling the request opened a door for the government to reward BTS with a military exemption. If BTS hadn’t pulled it, I think there were concerns of other KPop artists putting in requests for an exemption. Plus if the government ruled on the request to give the exemption, that could set a precedent for other KPop artists to request an exemption and expect to get it. I don’t think the government wanted to open up that can of worms. On the other hand rewarding BTS with an exemption now looks like it was earned and all come out on top.
"I feel that Army needs to still ask the government for an exemption."... are you a baby ARMY? cause we don't need to ask the govt for anything. It's not our place and the boys have made a decision, we're not their parents, sisters/brothers, bffs or SO, we have no say in their life. We're their fans. Are you trying to set us up? sorry but tons of cosplay ARMYs are around, I have a hard time differentiating real ARMYs from trolls.
@@subobing3551 if you're a cosplay ignore pls, if you're an actual ARMY, pls don't do that. That would be what a manti would do, we respect te boys and their decision, end of story. Is it ideal and lovely? no, it's gonna be hard, but it is what it is. They live in SK, that's it.
This has been such a hot button issue and BTS have been treated like puppets on a string by politicians. I am livid that’s it’s come to this and I hope you are right that they still have a chance for their deserved exemption. They just finished yet another Korean tourism campaign. I think by forcing the decision, big companies will now start to worry about their bottom line and it’s not going to be good! I’m ready to boycott Korean goods over this!
Me too. Was planning a trip there next year, now I’m not even bothering to go to sk until BTS is back. Plus I plan on letting the government and big corporations there that they will not get my business until BTS is done serving. So them how important BTS is to sk.
Simply a boss power move by BTS. The Korean government has been using BTS these past years, finding ways to leech off them and even made the bid for the World Expo by holding one free concert and used that as a decider whether to exempt BTS or not if BTS could show their impact, yet after solidifying their status as an indisputable cultural movement and the most successful Korean artist South Korea has ever seen, BTS decided to enlist themselves without the governments say and now the world is looking at the government baffled lol. BTS was able to have the last laugh and now nothing is holding them back bcs they will come back stronger. On the day of the concert they turned a whole city into a festival, many local businesses were positively impacted by the amount of tourists who traveled across the world to see BTS, airlines added extra flights bcs of the demand, over 100k tourists and about 50 million views that tuned in worldwide for one concert. I respect BTS, they're some bad MFers! All the best serving the country.
Is there anything stronger than the economic repercussions of not exempting BTS from the military service? Let the South Korean government experience it for themselves...with the global recession already happening...let them get a double whammy... global recession + BTS in the military service = billions of loss income for South Korea.
@@voice2voiceless if you think KPop will elevate or progress without BTS, the major contributor for international marketing of the industry, you are not aware of how BTS is. BTS is a phenomenon. They have solidified legendary status. The break will highlight thus
Deciding on their own terms is such a badass move. They do not owe these “suckers” anything and no one can use BTS as an argument or BTS for exemptions. They just proved that they are KINGS!
As I have already said, the military is going to have to provide major security for BTS members. They are playing with the potential of big problems with worldwide corporate boycotts if BTS gets hurt. The security issue could be a face-saving strategy for the military to announce they are going to reconsider enlisting members because of the expense (money and manpower) of security.
@@elainesalvador8011 those two are no where close to as big or popular then BTS. That’s no disrespect to those k pop legends but to pretend they are the same is delusional. There are levels to this and bts is the top even if they weren’t the first .

I don't think the government is even going to respond, not unless there is an uproar...for them it is just a sigh of relief...I am in my 50's and I get tired of middle-age and older just not doing right and being so hypocritical.
I'm so mad at the people who are just trusting that this will turn out well and if it doesn't I will get no joy in telling them "I told you!" There are no guarantees that they will be done in 2 years. There are no guarantees regarding what they can or will want to do in 2+ years.
Completely! I’m in my 50s also. For them to be toying with these guys really has been upsetting. I’m worried about what’s going on in N Korea. That freak better not pull a Putin on S Korea. America will not stand for that and will squash him.
If I remember correctly, it was not BIG HIT or HYBE that proposed that the Korean Government should exempt BTS from mandatory military service. It was the other guys -- the big three entertainment company that suggested that exemption should be made for their K Pop artists. Bit Hit was not even invited to attend the meeting.
exactly, the big 3 proposed exemptions and a few I-reporters accused ARMYs of wanting the boys to be exempted cause there was a change org with a few signatures stating it.. BS, we never asked for anything, it was the big 3. The delay in enlisting is cause of South Korea's Hwagwan Orders of Cultural Merit award, they're allowed to postpone it til they're 30, if they wanted it
Excellent points! WE ARE ARMY, and they should know that! If we all take action then we are having BTS' back and at the same time telling those with vested interest that we're prepared to take action. We CAN do this if enough of us get off our butts and do so! We only have to see how BTS have inspired such a lot of good around the world and how Army's did it in their name. Time to do so again, with the most important people to us! I'll respect the decision once it's set in stone, but at the moment we have the power. FIGHTING ARMY'S, LET GET IT!!!
this is a power move on the part of bts as a group to join the military. all world news agencies are talking about the ''world superstars, bts'' joining the military. what star power to the 10th degree. they are going in as a group together with jin processing first. the members stated 'they can not be separated', their love for jin is great. if the media calls them 'world superstars' now, what will they be when they get out? the worldwide pride and total respect for ''bts'' will be ''beyond enormous''. they will truly be the ''kings'' and history will be made. another word will have to be created for bts because the word 'icon' will not be suitable.
there is nothing good that they decided to go! they surely want to continue with their music and not be locked up there in an environment of violence, abuse and weapons. no privacy
They have served their country. It just wasn't wearing a uniform or carrying a gun. They have done more to promote their culture and country than anyone I am aware of. I couldn't name an Olympic medal winner from South Korea. I couldn't name a famous artist from South Korea. I could not name a South Korean who has excelled in the tech field. I could not name a classical musician who is from South Korea. I can name seven talented, unique, humble young men who have saved millions of lives around the world with their promotion of love yourself speak yourself. Just like with the grammys it is not BTS who needs them but it is them who need BTS. Felt the same way about their visit to the White House. It was the White House that needed BTS not the other way around. Everyone wants to use BTS. Honestly does the South Korean government not know the definition of fair that they want to throw that around as an excuse. What ever will be will be. I can do forever. I will wait if I need to. But it will be with a less favorable view of humanity. Those seven young men are what this world needs more of. Not in a uniform and not carrying a gun because someone else didn't have the balls to make a decision. That's what fair. 💜🎶💜

Oh it's starting, US media are picking up the story and it is being discussed. Multiple non fans are questioning why BTS weren't exempted for their contributions and it's blowing up. Stocks are going down and billions of dollars are reported to be lost for the next year. I would even boycott products from SK because I don't have any more reason to buy (also I need to save for BTS' comeback) they should feel the pain. 50M fans watched the Busan concert worldwide, if they're going to waste the opportunity then we don't care, we will respect and support the boys, we're only here for them.
This is not about ARMY surviving missing them for 25 months. Shame on you ARMY!!! It is about THEM and their well being NOT getting hurt or abused. Military is not vacation. There are many crazy/jelous soldiers, ready to hurt them and revenge from ex girlfriend and ex boyfriend 🇧🇷🇰🇷🤢💚💜🦋
They want to do solo projects and keep the fandom up, so I think 2-3 years is best. They already prerecorded some RUN BTS and during the enlistment of some the others will release the solo albums. Just perfect timing.
I wish they would but at the same time it is best time to do their solos. but I wish they would do a couple at a time. like Jin and Suga since they are the closes in age and Jhope and RM and Jimin and V and JK last since there is a few years between him and Jimin. or the 3 together and get it over with. if they plan on getting it over with by 2025 then they must be planning something like that and maybe why Jins solos is coming out 1st even when he said it was what was planned but he wanted it out before he had to leave.
I wish! and kinda will be that way? not really though. It starts with Seokjinnie and the rest will follow next year considering their CB is in 2025 hehe
I am watching this 3/15/23, so Jin is already in the military and it looks like J-Hope will be next. My question is about writing to Korean officials and corporations. Since the enlistment process is happening now, do you think it would be effective to still write these letters? Would it be able to exempt RM for example, even though Jin is already in? I have a feeling that their fate is sealed, but I'm not sure.
Hi! Sorry my english im from uruguay 🇺🇾 It's sad but I doubt that if you send something they'll pay attention.. I am devastated by this of the boys' military service... because they are ruining their careers and their lives!! I can't imagine any of them in that environment of violence, suffering stress, training to kill and with a gun in their hands!! it's crazy!! They are a national treasure and the government doesn't even care one bit! They sent Jin to the most dangerous base and we already saw that they made him do the worst tests like the gas chamber and walking with weight! It's horrible what they do with them after all they did for their country!! and we watching!! 💔 Something could be done if ALL the armys complained MASSIVELY on networks asking to be exempted !!! complaining about that government for contempt for bts! but the issue here is that unfortunately 98% of the "armies" do nothing! And they only let this happen because they say "they chose to go" I can't believe people are so ignorant and can't see beyond the obvious! they want to do their music, concerts and come back as a group!! Nobody at the top of world success like them would want to leave everything to go through the trauma of military service that can even ruin their body for life with all the excessive physical demands that they make them do! but people don't hear about that 🤦♀️
Lots of thoughts here, proud that they are enlisting close together (from the release anyway)...Really wondering how the government/military officials will make decisions going forward in exempting "GLOBAL AWARD WINNING athletes and MUSICIANS"....
I like the way you think and exposed the situation! This is what I wrote to Samsung and Hyundai: "I am a fan of your products, however without BTS around, maybe my loyalty may change. If companies and government don't support their best ambassadors, what can us customers expect?"
I was planning on visiting SK early next year but given the BTS news I have already started to rethink if I should go at all. Maybe I will just go to Japan!
Proud Army for them! If you're truly a Army, then you'll wait for them to come back. Hopefully they'll come back or just do their solo projects! I'll be waiting! And praying that they will be safe!
This is their decision to do their military service, not the government. 2yrs. will go by fast! I married my husband, who did 21 years of service and believe me, I was super nervous when ever he would step out to go do his duty! I'm proud of BTS for acting on it, instead of their government making their choices! We all need to step back and let them do what is necessary! They will be fine! I've been there and I've done all I could do for my husband then!! Let's just send them our prayers!
@@MT_7284E I'm not here to argue about S. Korea's laws. Yes, the government did do an extension to 30yrs.old, but that gave alot of others to receive that as well. BTS really don't want us to get involved with their choices. So quite making it sound like they never wanted to enlist. They always said that they would do their military service. They just had too many projects to fulfill. Now, Jin left to Argentina to promote his solo with Coldplay. They wanted to complete their solos before they left. Please keep them in your hearts 💕
The government should look at what they did for their government. They did beyond and more than the Olympic medalists who got the exemption military service. I am very disappointed with the government. Very very upset.
Big Hit were really smart with their timing of this announcement no matter what happens from now on. Pure *chef's kiss* in terms of PR. Plus the guys already renewed their contract with Big Hit as well.
LEGENDS Indeed…..BTS won’t be taken hostages by their government…so now it’s up to all ARMYS to save our money and not buying any Korean stuff and wait for BTS come back
But all the other people who aren't BTS are still worth the interest! The culture is still there. The food, the sights and sounds...all of it is still there whether or not our boys are gone for now. :( What about the other idols we've been loving all this time? Blackpink, TWICE, Ateez, Stray Kids...all of them suddenly lose their music and fanbases because BTS is gone? Were BTS the only reason why we liked S. Korea and nothing else?
@@Golden_kook But the boys never asked for exemption! It's nice to see that their fans want them to be exempted after all they've done, but they're still S. Korean men who still want to do the things all S. Korean men have to do.
I thought the same thing: this is now international news and it makes the government look like a bunch of idiots. I sincerely hope that BTS allies in the government helped them make this decision and can use this to twist some arms. I believe the conservatives in the government hate BTS, and, like conservatives everywhere, they don’t care if they destroy their country. I don’t do social media but, to those who do, please, please, make our protest as viral as possible. Everybody say NO!
Seems that SK didn't even care about what BTS represent to all Army around the world. And SK government didn't realize how tourism in SK increased because Army wanted to see some of BTS's concerts or even to enjoy with Korean culture , foods, music, and the list goes on , thanks to BTS again. So if this is the way SK government feel about Army, from now on I will make sure to boycott Koreans products until 2025. Better military service keep BTS safe. Shame on SK government. This is how they feel thankful for all contribution BTS did so far. I don't gonna watch some of chickens dancing pretending they really can replace BTS with weaky coreographies, no way. For sure some K Pop industry will try to replace BTS with boys and girls with colorful clothes and hair, dancing rap and pop. BTS is more than product. They are unique and phenomenal
I feel that the performance, at the Busan concert, of Cypher Pt3 Killer was, this time, a clear message to indicate that BTS is in control of BTS and that they will make the decisions on their terms.
I want to ask you how is it that golfers, athletes, musicians, wealthy sons of industry, presidents, etc. are able to be exempt by law and yet they need a new “pop culture” law to pass so that BTS gets exempt. Make it make sense.
50 million plus on line to watch these wonderful young men perform and bring happiness, thousands of tourists from one 2 hour concert, that the performers had to pay for. Not a cultural asset, hah. Unfortunately the people of South Korea are the ones who will lose out on the benefits BTS bring them 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
BTS are WORLDWIDE superstars, artists and phenomenon, leaders and influencers. They have spoke at the UN, the White House, world ambassadors for Korea, literally the face of South Korea, the backbone of their tourism and economy right now. If that is not deserving enough of an exemption, then I don’t know what is, for everything they have done and achieved how could this be happening. There is no other K-pop artist or group that even comes close, I can’t even think of any artist in the world that c ones close. They belong to the world, not just South Korea, actually they are too big for the world! I’m literally just breaking inside thinking about this 😭😢😭💔
The government of South Korea is acting ungrateful and very selfish toward BTS , BTS did and doing so much for them and South Korea is also acting very but very rude and impolite to BTS…. The politics and the President of the Country are not giving honor to BTS.!
Does anyone think the government will at least take some measures to keep them safer than other idols? Some horrible things have happened to them and they're not nearly as famous...the only thing that worries me is their safety. I hope they'll at least let them commute.
So very proud of our Bangtan boys...taking control. I agree with all the other comments here and reiterate that I/we will still be here for BTS when their military service is completed. As an oldie from New Zealand gives me a few more years to save for my lifetime experience visiting South Korea (for BTS) 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I'm beyond angry! I'm angry at the South Korean government. I'm mad at Army. (I'm Army) I feel we let BTS down. If there had been more of a social media presence regarding this issue by Army this wouldn't be happening. (In my opinion) I love and appreciate you because you were one of the only people speaking out on this . We don't know if BTS will be done serving in 2 years. That will only happen if the Maknae line enlists early. Also nobody knows what can happen in 2 years. There is no guarantee. I'm with you. I'm angry that we are just saying, "Ok, see you in 2025!" I can't believe we are really ok as ARMY saying, "Yeah, I guess what BTS has done isn't as important as winning one medal or a big piano competition. If the gov says they don't deserve it, I guess they don't. It is what it is." So disheartened by the apathy. As if the important thing is us saying, "We'll wait."
Look what Korea government did with Busan expo. Hybe end up paying for it at the end . Do you really trust the Korean government to do the right thing at this point?
@@EverRoxas Well they do attract some delulu fans who think they have the right to determine national security policy. I bet they card so much about social justice in their own communities. Just a bunch of nutters who are obsessed with their oppas
I don’t understand why the Korean government has to “accept” the offer of Jin proceeding with the process of enlistment since it’s mandatory for all Korean men to enlist in their army. Personally, I think BTS should just do their mandatory time because if they are exempt by their government, they will find ways to exploit the boy. They will pull the whole “ since we exempted you, now you have to do something for us” card. If the boys do their time like any ordinary Korean man, they won’t owe the government anything for special treatment. I am ARMY and I would hate to see the boys gone for that long but in the long run, I think it’s for the best since this whole thing has become so complicated. BTS never asked for exemption. Like Hybe said, they are willing to do their mandatory service but it seems like the Korean government just wants to use them and their influence for their personal gains and it’s not fair to the boys.
I would like to add my lil bit of contribution, so many of the army are from outside the country and want to see the boys to continue doing what they do best. SK should ask themselves how can 7boys contribute to the military in terms of manpower compared to the economic gains they will be losing if they put on hold the group activities of bts. Considering the global economic crisis the world is now facing would it be wise to keep ur economy going by letting your number one moneymaker continue to run. SK think wisely.
I only and will always trust BTS. Whatever their decisions , as an army I will support them. This years to come without them I will be saving money, rebuilding myself and continue streaming their music. I guess I’ll be planning to go to Korea once BTS will be complete in 2025.
I think you're spot on with this being a smart move on BTS/HYBE's part, however, I don't have a lot of hope in SK's govt/military in getting their heads unstuck from sphincter long enough to make the right decision in the next 30+ days. Any person or governing body who cannot see BTS's worth and how much they HAVE ALREADY SERVED doesn't have the right to be leading anything let alone a country or military. They look like noobs and if BTS wasn't there, interest in SK would cease to exist at this point.
Yes, a good reason there are millions of Army/fans: BTS symbolizes hope 💜 Make your opinion about their military enlistment and its ramifications (on SK economy) known to the powers that be, in order to possibly effect change.
While they are gone the focus of the world will pass from Korea and it’s big companies. Without BTS there is no hook to bring attention to Korea and it’s products
I thought the timing was very interesting in all this. Like another commenter said, it's interesting that the statement was made right after the Busan concert. I have to wonder, based on the very saccharine wording of the announcement, if this wasn't also a couple of middle fingers to the politicians for playing the "will they/won't they" game with BTS and military enlistment. Another commenter said it perfectly. We ARMY can wait for BTS. The businesses that rely on overseas sales, tourism, etc will be hard pressed to wait for BTS's return and the return of ARMY. Not all of us can afford to travel to SK. Not all of us can afford to purchase K products. But those who can have spent fortune. And at the end of the day, the only thing that really matters to either the politicians and businesspeople is money. I also hate the Ministery of Defense's statement about BTS still being able to perform if it's for public service or service to the nation while they are enlisted. Um, they can't earn while they are enlisted, so does the SK gov't expect BTS to be show horses for them? Prance and trot around while not getting paid? Also, if they can perform, practice, etc for public service and service to the nation, THEN WHY DON'T THEY JUST EXEMPT THEM?? Regardless, it'll be very interesting to see how all of this goes over the next few weeks. Thanks again for a wonderful update!
I’m coming off the high of the Busan concert, so I’m not sure how to feel about this. I need time to process this information. Thanks for sharing your perspectives Sean, it’ll help us come to terms with this.
Interesting that they made this announcement after a very successful concert in Busan where they showed their economic impact to wherever they perform. Genius move on their part. It’s now the government’s turn to make a decision. Ignore their economic impact which cannot be overlooked or accept their decision to move forward with military service. BTS has the upper hand.
I am still expressing my views on every Korean NEWs broadcast because im still not ok with how they all are ungrateful and taking the boys achievements lightly compared to those athletes and unknown musicians aaahhh

The influence of BTS to my life is so huge. I started buying Korean products; from noodles to cellphone, tv, car etc. I specially buy BTS endorse products and BTS merchandises. But with BTS enlisting in the military, I think I have to stop buying Korean products. I will put on hold too visiting Korean. Sorry but I am so disappointed of how Korean government treated BTS. 😢

Where I am from and here in USA too… I used to stay in the hotel for a week .. visit their historical palace in Myeon-dong and enjoy eating Korean foods . BTS is my turning point during the pandemic period.. I adore this 7 boys that grew up Like family taking care of each other.. their bond is strong enough to break them apart due to mandatory military service.. They contributed much to their economy bringing BILLIONS OF DOLLARS that increase their economy and bring honor as well because the famous BTS Is from Korea who also contributed millions of dollars in black lives… not to mention the donations they are giving to the people in needs in Korea. I am patronizing their products in support to BTS bec . Of their good deeds. How come they don’t see that … holding them back for 18 yrs to 2 yrs. In military will stop them from performing as a group… They are their big asset… a mine of gold.. bec they are the one that attracts people to come to Koreat to buy their products with all those trade marks of BTS. A World treasure and worthy to be exempted on that mandatory service. Dont just used them for your own aspect politically …. Look forward economically that will benefit the people of Korea… Don’t turn your fruitful land into salty wasteland.. because BTS are still in the peak of their career and members are still willing to perform as a group as I watched their concert in Busan…. Even if they don’t perform as group and do solo projects as long as they are happy doing it … ARMY will support each and everyone of them…
Sean what a great idea about people around the world contacting SK companies about their displeasure and considering not purchasing from them. I'm also going to call the local SK embassy in Boston to express my displeasure

I had been telling my mother this a little while ago. While watching just some old RUclips, it dawned on me. If South Korea and North Korea have technically been at war with each other since 2017 when NK shot fire on SK, putting BTS in the military might the most horrible decision yet. Think, millions of people in SK love BTS with all of the hearts, and for something (god forbid) happen to anyone of them if they decide to enlist, South Korea and all of it's people would be devastated. Not in a right head space, and certainly not in the right financial space either. BTS is a huge contributor to South Korea's income. You know it, I know it, heck even my grandmother knows it. Think about it from North Korea's POV. If you wanted to take out your enemy, how would you do so? Simple. Let South Korea possibly run itself in the ground, and hit them when they're weak. Infiltrate when everyone could possibly be mourning the losses of superstars (again, Lord above forbid). It just made way too much sense to me, coming from a non-emotion motivated logical perspective. This is just horrible. I knew the guys really didn't wanna enlist, almost nobody would. Armys have to realize that HYBE isn't as nice and innocent as they seem. All huge companies and politics are corrupt. BTS are just (sadly) puppets on a string who got dealt a devil deck. I pray for the guys, and no matter what happens, we will always be there for them. Not for HYBE, or BigHit, but for BTS. They've saved us so many times before, now, it's time to return the favor.
Love your videos & breaking things down. Yes ppl need to reach out in email & social media to all big companies there to not buy from them or travel there... also government officials.
I was in Korea in 2016 and I said one time is good as i have visited the place. However after I stanned BTS, Another trip is again in the works for APril 2023 with hotel reservations done but as of today, that plan is now hanging in the air.
However, trust in BTS does not equate to Trust in South Korea
Will I support BTS?
I still do not feel like I said enough or really captured the true worth of these young men, but I had to stop somewhere. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ntcDtYBw4toZ8R-8vmJSaNBYiuQF5TcI?usp=sharing
My two cents :)

They should never have been at the White House addressing hate in America, especially when they are colourist themselves and foreign.
NO!

It's unreal how shameless they are.
It was under a different president when they got the diplomatie pasports..

Not now.
BTS should.go for fairness butbyes the government should not have exploited them but they chose to become.political so it is big hit's fault

The USA president invited them to the White House in order to boost his popularity, that should mean something.

Either way, ARMY can wait and still be fed with HYBE's vault of BTS content. Smart move by HYBE. Likely going to have to accept the decision for them to serve.
1. i personally think that BTS needs this 'break'.
2. Let BTS get out of the limelight for some time so that those who want to take advantage of them will move on. ....... By the way, this includes the rest of the Kpop industry
3. I also think that this will give BTS members a chance to live a 'normal' life.
Also, Army is for BTS forever.. our money is theirs but let the rest of the SK economy and government "Fuck around and Find out" the strength of BTS and their ARMY
I am definitely agree with this opinion
I think there is good and bad to them going into the military. I do agree that it may give them a chance to live a more normal life.
BTS does deserve the exemption, seven guys who gave their youth to a country we barely heard about, today South Korea is talked about because of BTS' success, they didn't earn anything from the government, they worked hard to be where they are. The exemption is more than deserved
Couldn't agree more 👏
but the thing is even if they were granted exemption, the government give up on that idea.

This is very true.
I decided not to travel to South Korea in January. Army strong!
True
It's unbelievable that the government can't come up with ideas for BTS to "perform their military service together as ambassadors for Korea." Take the word exemption off the table & replace it with alternative service. I can think of at least 10 different alternative service plans. How can a country turn its back & ignore BTS's contribution to Korea's economy, cultural representation, & goodwill? Where is the politician standing up for what's right? Since I'm not a South Korean citizen, I have no influence with politicians. BUT my dollars do. I will definitely be boycotting Korean products & travel.
What alternatives were u thinking of. ( I am just curious)

Yes. Not bcs we have to miss BTS but bcs the hyprocrisy and unfairness of those politicians/ government.
Agree!!
I very much agree with you! it's so sad that they stopped their careers for years for something they didnt deserved !!!
🤬 so unfair!
Not buying one thing until all of the members have returned home safely after service.

I am so very proud of Jin and BTS for taking their lives and careers into their own hands. By enlisting I feel that BTS will more respected by their fellow Kpop community.
Same here. If The boys aren’t there I ain’t going 😂

I agree, this is BTS exerting their power.

It was the other guys -- the big three entertainment company that suggested that exemption should be made for their K Pop artists. Bit Hit was not even invited to attend the meeting.
No. They opposed exemptions based on the medal only. They stopped exemptions for BTS bc it was "just for BTS".
That 's true.... I 've seen these matter somewhere in U-tube long ago. Now they / big three entertainment just use ours boys to fill up their gains .
exactly, the big 3 proposed exemptions and a few I-reporters accused ARMYs of wanting the boys to be exempted cause there was a change org with a few signatures stating it.. If they end up having to go, I think it would be powerful for them all to just enlist together at the same time.

LEGENDS Indeed…..BTS won’t be taken hostages by their government…so now it’s up to all ARMYS to save our money and not buying any Korean stuff and wait for BTS come back
👍
But all the other people who aren't BTS are still worth the interest! The culture is still there. The food, the sights and sounds...all of it is still there whether or not our boys are gone for now. :( What about the other idols we've been loving all this time? Blackpink, TWICE, Ateez, Stray Kids...all of them suddenly lose their music and fanbases because BTS is gone? Were BTS the only reason why we liked S. Korea and nothing else?

BOYCOTT KOREA, BTS DESERVES EXEMPTION
Those conservatives, they ruined bt's career 💔💔💔😡😡😡
yes, get it done! Lead on RM/BTS! In your face politicians for absolutely nothing just your massive attitude of entitlement
Well said!
BTS has done so much for South Korea..
This makes me cry Jin now j-hope
I’m literally just breaking inside thinking about this 😭😢😭💔
Bts are trash.
Bts are not world grade
The government of South Korea is acting ungrateful and very selfish toward BTS , BTS did and doing so much for them and South Korea is also acting very but very rude and impolite to BTS…. The politics and the President of the Country are not giving honor to BTS.!
Does anyone think the government will at least take some measures to keep them safer than other idols? Some horrible things have happened to them and they're not nearly as famous...the only thing that worries me is their safety. I hope they'll at least let them commute.
I am like you. They have no privacy there and live with anyone
I am also worried because they can get injured from everything they are forced to do
So very proud of our Bangtan boys...taking control. I agree with all the other comments here and reiterate that I/we will still be here for BTS when their military service is completed. As an oldie from New Zealand gives me a few more years to save for my lifetime experience visiting South Korea (for BTS) 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Lets see how far stocks will drop?…🤔🤔🤨🤨
Not only that but also how much Korea will loose because they won’t have from BTS the big money makers
Hybe has been cranking out acts trying to make up for BTS. I honestly think they won't be able to. I'm retired and I've never seen a company get rid of their cash cow.
@@nan_to4 Mariela, we all know BTS is one of a kind. All HYBE can do is try to make money from other groups to be able to wait until BTS returns; they are a company and companies have to make money. Up until 2019, they only had BTS. I don’t know what you mean about a cash cow..you mean BTS? They aren’t getting g rid of them they will go do their duty and serve their country
@@sandralovecchio7597 I don't mean to physically get rid of them but letting them go for 2 years - ish. Also, I'm part of a military family, and even our guys, who enlisted voluntarily and have fought in wars, don't understand drafting them outside of wartime and risking injury.
@@nan_to4 i saw the hybe site they have bieber and ariana grande but thise artist does nothing for korea economy
I don't want to hear about Army's regrets later if this doesn't work out well. Sorry I'm so upset.
I agree with you totally!! It’s ashame that BTS will go to military! It’s wrong
How can you be mad at ARMY?
It may not help but hurt BTS to fight against the higher ups.
@@EverRoxas true it may hurt them if we went too far but there is nothing wrong in fighting because who knows what may happen in the future.
Ikr, I thought kdrama was an exaggeration but seeing these politicians in real life... I just want them to leave BTS alone.
I will support our Bangtan boys; but, I will buy nothing else South Korean or even go to South Korea until they comeback in 2025!!!
Same!!! And you only have to take a look around my house to know how much I've spent up until now. Not one penny more until the comeback!
Same
Childish and shows BTS only made you appreciate BTS not Korea
@@janvdb9258 Yup. BTS kinda deserves a better fandom than the battle-ready fans in the comments...
Ok Mr. Lim, you are a delight. Love your shows!
Yes, a good reason there are millions of Army/fans:
BTS symbolizes hope 💜
Make your opinion about their military enlistment and its ramifications (on SK economy) known to the powers that be, in order to possibly effect change.
After the silence regarding this issue up until now, I'm not hopeful anymore.
They might just ignore all the letters from ARMYS...
While they are gone the focus of the world will pass from Korea and it’s big companies. Without BTS there is no hook to bring attention to Korea and it’s products
BTS are beyond mature gentlemen! Truly role models globally 👏👏👏
Thanks 🙏 For All Your Help BTS + Army 💕🙏💪✌️
I’m coming off the high of the Busan concert, so I’m not sure how to feel about this. I need time to process this information. Thanks for sharing your perspectives Sean, it’ll help us come to terms with this.
Interesting that they made this announcement after a very successful concert in Busan where they showed their economic impact to wherever they perform. Genius move on their part. It’s now the government’s turn to make a decision. Ignore their economic impact which cannot be overlooked or accept their decision to move forward with military service. BTS has the upper hand.
I'm really hoping you are right about that, but am worried.
I am still expressing my views on every Korean NEWs broadcast because im still not ok with how they all are ungrateful and taking the boys achievements lightly compared to those athletes and unknown musicians aaahhh
I am from Philippines 🇵🇭. I know a little about Korea during my school days. But when I became a fan of BTS I got interested so much. I watch Korean movies and series in Netflix. 😢
I agree on what you are saying… I am a US Citizen residing at LA.. I am a business woman used to Travel in Korea flying in Korean Air.. buying lots of beauty products and Samsung products to sell in the Phils . Where I am from and here in USA too… I used to stay in the hotel for a week .. visit their historical palace in Myeon-dong and enjoy eating Korean foods .
BTS is my turning point during the pandemic period.. I adore this 7 boys that grew up
Like family taking care of each other.. their bond is strong enough to break them apart due to mandatory military service..
Look forward economically that will benefit the people of Korea…
Don’t turn your fruitful land into salty wasteland.. because BTS are still in the peak of their career and members are still willing to perform as a group as I watched their concert in Busan….
Even if they don’t perform as group and do solo projects as long as they are happy doing it … ARMY will support each and everyone of them…
I already switched all my Samsung devices to Apple
Sean what a great idea about people around the world contacting SK companies about their displeasure and considering not purchasing from them. I'm also going to call the local SK embassy in Boston to express my displeasure
Ty Sean (so sorry) 🥰💜
it's just...SK gov. has been dragging this topic and our boys for months and honestly i'm sick of it

Now I’m having second thoughts about buying a KIA for my grandson when he graduates from college in May 2023.
