Alyssa was my introduction to female harsh vocals. She's so good.
Same for me.... during her Agonist days.
Jeff's not stepping on any toes and just collecting that pay check.

And yet he likes it. People act like Arch killed Nevermore. He quit. Get over it. Solo record coming out any time now. He said end of this year.
Would you like him tour around in small clubs with Conquering Dystopia in his 50s? Do you think he'd be writing music in Megadeth? No, he'd stil be Kirk Hammet, and Dave/Mike are James Hetfield. At least Mike has let new guitar players contribute like Nick Cordle. He cowrote nearly all the songs on War Eternal. What does that say? That Jeff can't write like Nick Cordle? Probably, there's something to it. It's not Arch Enemy style. Here's a snippet from a guitarworld article. Might clear some stuff up 😁 (BTW I'm crossing my fingers for some Jeff cowriting on some of the other 8 AE tracks that haven't been released yet! 🤞)
Will to Power (2017):
_Amott wrote four other full songs in Mexico, then flew back to Sweden and, between gigs, continued writing in his home studio. At one point, he asked Loomis-who was the primary songwriter in Nevermore-if he had any songs to contribute and Loomis was almost ashamed to admit he hadn’t written anything._
_“When they started writing, the album came together really fast,” Loomis says. “I did submit three songs, but I think I might have missed the deadline. I feel really bad about that, but at the same time, I didn’t want to be the new guy coming in saying, ‘Okay, here’s a bunch of new songs I wrote. Let’s go record them.’ So I only did those three and honestly, I don’t think they were in the Arch Enemy style.”_

@ragin Caucasian yeah that's the reverse halo affect, Alissa is only being questioned because of her looks and gender. she is actually a great vocalist and i don't care about simping for her it's not like I will date her, i don't care about her looks or personality too, just the music
@ragin Caucasian why we need to focus on gender at all? male or female, i don't care at all. i like both male or female vocalists if they're good, and won't like them if they're bad, simple as that. Alissa is good because she is entertaining and sounds good and for me that matter the most zero fucks given about her gender or looks or whatever. the hate female metal musicians are getting is crazy i can think of so many females who are making great metal this year even better than many men from legacy bands, my AOTY was from a all female Brazilian band who were called out by some comments for being "just girls trying to be the next Death" like that's getting crazy now

One of the best choruses I’ve heard from them…but once again I find myself wondering why Jeff Loomis continues to be so underutilized. I know the issue lies with Michael Amott since AE is his baby but he should stop writing cheesy lyrics and let Alissa write more and let Jeff loose to do what he does best. Just my opinion.
Nope, it lies on Loomis being in Alcatrazz and composing third solo album and second conquering dystopia
@@jesus4pincho He’s been in AE for almost 8 years and he only joined Alcattraz this year. And unless I’m mistaken there’s been no talks of a new Conquering Dystopia album in years. So he’s had time to write for AE and he had some ideas for the last album that Amott rejected. Here’s part of what Amott said in an interview: “But, you know, I've always written most of the music, so it's difficult to… I don't really wanna change the sound of the band too much. The band sort of started around my songwriting and my ideas, and those continue to be the most dominant ones, I guess.”

I agree Jeff should be able to show more of his talent cause let's be honest he's far more skilled than Amott. Amott obviously knows this and doesn't want to be upstaged cause of his ego. Fun track nonetheless - already sounding like one of their best albums!
For real I can’t get over their, hahemm... Michaels lyrics now. Just let Alissa do it. Every few that she wrote was much much better than his.
I truly believe Jeff Loomis’s skills arent fully being utilized in Arch Enemy. Maybe other tracks will prove me wrong but… I am glad that he will get exposure beyond those who know h from Nevermore. Thats just me.. 🇨🇦
100%. They have one of the best lead guitarists on the planet and do not let him show off.

Bro, even if they make a 10-minute song of him shredding, they still won't use 100% of his talent...
No, he won't be utilized more than this in that band, for any foreseeable period of time. He will remain doing there, what he is doing. 1 solo against Michael's 2 solos. Besides Jeff's solo always seem to sound quiet and dry toned compared to Michael's. Does he (Jeff) even chooses his own guitar tone or is that also forced by Michael?
But the song, quality, chorus are amazing ofcourse and i really like melody too. Catchy.
On the other hand it is somewhat understandable.
If you let in a lot Jeff's influence (Nevermore sound or Jeff's solo projects styled sound) and let him to leads half-times it wouldn't be Arch Enemy anymore, but sort of "Arch-more" lol.
They would impelent 7 strings and Michael would have to do a lot of learning how to handle 7 strings :D Plus they have to go slower, but more progressive and darker. Such thing we won't see... esp. considering how high fan-base they have right now with what they do.
@@ingmarpeterson2955 I understand and agree to all of it but of course we haven’t heard the whole album but on older AE albums Michael brother would solo like a motherfucker and now its almost like Jeff isnt being used at all. I can understand that his influences wouldnt sound like AE but I would hope they could at least let him shred a bit 🤷🏼♂️ every ones points are valid and I love hearing them. Cheers
Would love to recommend the song "...and Their Eulogies Sang Me To Sleep" by The Agonist. Alissa did some brutal af vocals on this track and the instrumentation is also fantastic.

Yep. But they don't care about the genres as much as keeping their sound. Recently they've been tiptoeing around other genres.

The first song Ive heard from Arch Enemy that ive liked. I still preferred Alissa in her previous band The Argonist but glad to see Arch enemy imo is finally making good use of her.
Well, she might know the best waffle recipe in the world, doesn't mean she should use it here. She herself said she used to use the analogy "a drummer could know how to do an amazing flamenco beat, doesn't mean he should". Can't argue with that.

@@mikeh6286 The only change I made was a typo, i changed "precious band" to "previous band". And what I meant with the original comment was that I think The Argonist was a better fit for Alissa musically. I liked that band more with her than Arch enemy. Argonists style of music let Alissa shine, but with Arch enemy she typically stays in the same vocal range, like she performs less if that makes sense. Admittedly Argonists genre wise felt closer to metalcore/deathcore(kind of), while Arch enemy feels closer to standard metal, so I liked how Argonists sounded more (but admittedly imo, they dont sound as good without Alissa).

@@celticluna1691 meaning that Jeff is so much better than everyone in this band and he can do so much more if he was allowed to adjust the sound of Arch Enemy. Unfortunately they’ve been very safe lately and while everything is “good” it’s all very stable.
What he did in this song is nothing compared to his other work.

Jeffs tapping was awesome though. He will get to initiate that breakdown in hundreds of shows and it's going to be epic. Stage center, alone, kicking ass! I get chills just thinking about it. Some shows have 10-100 thousand people.

Amott gives me later Kirk Hammettt vibes where his leads are detrimental to the song rather than being icing on a cake.

Any time I see they've released something, I want them to unleash Loomis. Michael is the most average metal player. Which is weird because he also did carcass. Who are awesome. But like, having that kind of basic af solo when Loomis is right there is a bit on the embarrassing side of things tbh. Good that Jeff has secured the bag I guess. 😅😂

Listening to this i feel Michael is running out of ideas. Just skipped through some old songs and they stick with me on a level this can’t. And you have Jeff Loomis in this band…. Like common… Jeff Loomis. I know this isn’t Nevermore or Conuering dystopia but give the man a moment to shine.
Exactly, I really don't see what the hype is about. Neither of the two newer songs have memorable riffs/choruses/etc. Gojira and Mastodon have super nice new stuff going on I don't see how Arch Enemy is releasing some played out stuff.
Honestly, it's still great music in my opinion. I like the new stuff, Loomis should definitely be able to play way more. I mean come on you have Jeff Loomis in your band, probably one of the greatest lead guitarists at the moment. Other then that i like it though. Just my opinion.

Nik you should check out Amity's Death is All Around Us.....little bit different than their typical stuff....Of course Joe's great screams....Aaron's cleans...but they actually really feature their drummer in this song. Pretty simple song...somewhat short but a banger.

Arch Enemy is still my favourite band after all those years and maybe that will never change now, i will never get enough of them
You're not alone buddy. I got into them about 2-3 years ago and I am home. I prefer their style WAY more than clean/heavy switching bands, or bands that try to always go 1000miles and hour on the guitars. It's all about feel here.

I literally was bored of this band in their old lineup with Angela Gossow. But with that new singer and Jeff Loomis on guitar (who I already loved in his old band Nevermore and its predecessor Sanctuary) they really reached a new level of awesomeness.
Blasphemy! Hehe..😁 The Angela era was huge. Each era was somewhere actually. Mike said that albums that didn't do well in like Europe did great in Latin America or Asia etc.

Michael's 4 second solo really made my eyes tear up. Never ever has that happened before. So much feel man... Jeff's tapping is absolutely insane. Not technically but as a way to lead the listener into the breakdown and just open up the soundstage with stomach butterflies. Brilliant! Love Jeff so much.
