- Is handmade BETTER?
I'm trying out the A. Gallo handmade watercolor set of 12 half pans AND taking them outside for a plein air painting excursion!
A HUGE thanks to A Gallo for their very kind gift! Even though I received this set for free, this video is not sponsored by A. Gallo or any other brand.

Another nice thing about this company is that THEY PLANT A TREE with every order!!!
LOVE!
Beekeepers are careful to only take some of the honey from each hive. They don’t want their bees to die; they love them and also need them to make more honey!
I really enjoy using my A Gallo watercolors and I always get excited when artists show case and review them. At the moment my most used color is transparent red oxide. It’s so creamy and the color is luminous. Even though the weather made it difficult I love your painting!
Thanks so much for the nice comment! So glad you are enjoying your A. Gallo paints!
@@EmilyOlsonArt you’re welcome!
You or so good at explaining an telling your issue.I have painted for 40 years all mediums an i have all the same issues you do❤
Thanks for the nice comment, Linda!
As an italian artist i can say that we have some of the best product for artist of every type! So proud of my country
Hello! Can you recommend some of your favorite Italian paints? The ones I’m familiar with are Maimeri, A.Gallo, and Zecchi. Thank you 🙏🏽
@@kashfiahare3190 im not familiar with a.gallo and zecchi since i live in pugly which mean that is hard to find every brand but as a fan of maimeri (i tested shmincke, Winsor e newton and Daniel Smith) I can tell you that maimeri blu are incredible and the tubes are big (12ml) the price might seem high but they are one of the best international watercolor could buy in my opinion.
Thanks! They are lovely, I recently purchased their 24 half pan set. The silver tin is very sturdy! Take care
@@phillipstroll7385 actually I remember she bought the 12 maimeri blu with her own money... and also another youtuber called yeoh yi chie bought the maimeri blu multiple times.
@@phillipstroll7385 also instead of asking those question to you (witch doesn't help you or anyone else since it's a dead ended question) I would say pick some primary and try them out! The tube can be really affordable if you spend your money wisely
These are my favorite colours!
This year we went for holidays to italy, so I was able to visit their store in Assisi! I'm always waiting for their restock!
🙌🙌🙌
Great review - I am guilty of purchasing several of the A Gallo sets. I love them all! They all come with a brush (I now have a collection of the travel round brushes and the travel quill brushes in different sizes). And the paint colors are to die for! Just so beautiful.
You just admitted what I’ve done too! I love my A Gallo watercolors.
They're so lovely, it's tempting to collect them all!
@@EmilyOlsonArt it is! 😁
@@EmilyOlsonArt question.
Where's your video about the other set?
Just outta curiosity
I love these paints! Just wish I had more time to use them. Enjoy!
Love your videos, you're so talented and it makes me wish I was as accomplished as you! I'm starting to try to just paint and enjoy it regardless of how good it is, but I do want to get good, so I walk that fine line between enjoying learning and doing, and hoping and praying I can get to a point where I love my paintings because they're good!
You can do it!
I agree about those brushes. I have lots of A Gallo paint , so I got a lot of the brushes and I use them all the time.
Now I am super-eager to buy this 12-pan set!
Beautiful! You make it look so easy!
Thank you! 😊
I just purchased a set Sunday when they did a release! Ahhh I can’t wait for it to arrive from Italy! I ordered the signature 2 set with Yin Mn… so excited to try it! Quin Gold is one of my favorite yellows. So versatile.
You’re going to love them!
Love their paints. I have a few different sets now. The 24 signature set, the medley collection set for travel, and then more recently got their new mixing set for home and travel. Also have a bunch of Tintoretto brushes from them as well. Travel and regular. Recently got the new gold series travel ones they have and love them too. Also really like their quill brushes. Their paints and colors are just amazing. I love using them. Glad to see others doing reviews on them. Enjoy them! Waiting for the restock is like waiting for something in particular that you want on Black Friday lol.
Sounds like you are all set! These are so fabulous, it's tempting to collect them all!
Thanks Emily, I bought my A. Gallo set three years ago and love them. I save them for special watercolors paintings as they can be sometimes hard to replenish individual colors. Payne’s Gray is my favorite as it has more blue in it than other brands.
So glad you like them!
I'll be checking out their website for sure. I can remember Assisi - I was there a long time ago, and the pinks in the city and the sun shining across the vista...
Thanks Emily🍇
Hi from Brazil Emily! Love your videos! I would love seeing you trying and reviewing the White Nights watercolours too! 💓
Those are on my list! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, I’ll definitely check them out.
Thanks for stopping by my channel, Kellie!
Tintoretto have some fantastic brushes 🥰 I have a few and I love them
I'm impressed by the one I have so far! Great quality.
These look so beautiful! This makes me want to try painting outside.
The only other handmade paints I know of are by Beam Paints and they are made in Canada and are Indigenous-owned. They have some really innovative paint packaging that might work well for taking on the road!
I haven't heard of those! Sounds cool!
I have enjoyed my paints from A.Gallo! I contacted them in advance of one of their re-stocks and they made my 12 color palette a custom palette at no additional charge! I was also able to add 2 additional half pans for a selection of 14 pans in one of their 12 metal pan boxes! They had 3 greens in the set I selected, but they reduced it to one green and I added an additional yellow and a Red! Their customer service is just wonderful! I thought your landscape was wonderful! I would say that you should put a couple of binder clips in your bag to hold your pages down in wind. It works ok for holding your page still with brush strokes too.
I love that they did that for you! Such a great company!
SoHo Art Shop in New York sells A. Gallo paints here in the US.
Great info, thanks!
By the way, there's an art shop in NY which sells these, under "locations" on the A Gallo menu in your link to the shop in Italy. . Would save on shipping overseas for the US, and currency conversions.
Thanks so much for the info!
Is there a link to your second review of the signature set of 24? I just ordered it and wanted to see your reaction.
I love my A Gallo paints but still too scared to waste them whilst I’m trying to improve my watercolour skills…they produced the most beautiful colours and my swatches are so vibrant so I definitely need to just crack on and get my 100% cotton paper out and use them 😊
I would say don't waste them by NOT using them! 🙌 Enjoy!
@@EmilyOlsonArt I know, I’m going to make time to do that soon 🤞
Thank you so much Emily for fulfilling my request. Your review never disappoints me. I was anxiously waiting for this and it was worth the wait. I am so glad that you liked these colors so much. I wish to get them too in the future. Once again Thank you ❤
It was pure joy! Thanks for the request!
I am signed up for emails from an art store named Wet Paint. I believe they recently had a set of A gallow on sale. Which seems crazy if they're always sold out.
Ooh good to know!
For those who can't afford A Gallo, this little etsy shop called esseeco has excellent handmade paints too and prices are more reasonable. I'd have to go to Italy for A Gallo's shipping prices to make sense(for me).
Thanks so much for the review. How would you say these compare to Daniel Smith or DaVinci paints?
I haven't tried DaVinci paints, but I'd say they are every bit as great as Daniel Smith--nicer packaging though, and more carefully poured pans.
SoHo Art Supplies in NYC carries the watercolor sets - the only U.S. distributor. :-)
Wow! Good to know!
Beautiful but so expensive and so hard to get. Anyone who can get these are very lucky
Think you need some bullclips to hold your pages next time 🙂
YES!! 🙌
I love how excited you get unboxing. I can’t support paints that use honey (no matter how romantic they make the process out to be) it’s cruel. Bees make honey to store and feed themselves for the winter. Humans take it, often replacing it with sugar (inadequate nutritionally) and the bees die. 😔
Great demo and product review! You had terrific light for that painting, but it looked like it was a little windy! One of the big challenges in making semi-moist colors is managing shrinkage and cracking as the cakes dry, but plenty of solids in the form of pigment and controlled, gradual drying ensure an attractive, full paint reservoir. These look like a lot of fun to use! We'd be interested to learn what manufactured pan/cake watercolors you think give similar performance, for artists who aren't able to obtain these.
Thanks so much for the comment! I'll have to think about that--off the top of my head I think Sennelier performs similarly--they also use honey. And I will need to experiment with these a bit longer to get a better idea of their longevity.
