    Yes, the rabbits are being hunted as Pests, because they are, they breed very fast, so over populate quickly. How many of you protesting put out traps for mice or rats in your house or barn? Have cats as mousers? Use a fly tape or bait? If you protest this, replace the traps and bait with little dishes of food and cozy houses for the pests in your house or barn. Same thing. Rabbits are tasty pests, the meat is being used.

      @Charlotte Handsley Hunting is needed to control populations of animals, plain and simple. Are you vegan, by chance? If you are vegan, do you know where your food comes from? Do you know that rabbits are huge pest to farmers growing crops? If you buy meat in the store, you are just a hypocrite.

    Just to put a few things straight for those that don't really understand what we do and why we do it ,
    the dogs don't kill the rabbits we do , they simply catch them ,
    They are dispatched very quickly by hand ,
    often digging is necessary to retrieve dead rabbits that the ferrets have killed underground which is a perfectly natural thing for them to do ,
    it's very rare for young rabbits to be harmed as this takes place in winter months
    It's pest control not sport and every rabbit that gets caught go's into the food chain
    Rabbits cause millions of pounds of damage to crops and land across the country,
    If left alone disease will spread and cause them to die a slow horrible death
    I understand why people don't like what we do but it's necessary to maintain a healthy balance for us and them

      Jaf How about a Versatile dog, one that can track point flush retrieve and hunt down, on land or water? How about a dog that can hunt rabbits squirrel birds and ducks? How about a dog that is not too high energy that would need hours of literally running or exercise, that would make a good affectionate playful protective family dog as well? I am looking for a medium sized dog, not too big nor too small. What one breed encompasses all this?

    Also it's somewhat natural to find that predators view other predators as what they are rather than as prey. For example my falcony and cat and dogs all recognize each other naturally it would seem as predators, none of them cause each other harm other than playing chase. They never physically harm each other though though they do fight a little for dominance but only until the other gives up. Now if I bring something like a rabbit into my yard and bring it around my same set of animals......

    I don’t think any of these people have a clue how big a rabbit litter is
    the gestation period for rabbits is 28-31 days, a rabbit can be impregnated within hours of giving birth, litters contain 1-14 babies, and rabbits are fertile from about six months of age.

    another thing... I see lots of youtube videos of long chases for the rabbits by dogs. that puzzles me because here the rabbits are no match to out run the dogs. the dogs catch the rabbits very quickly and real easily. so, I just don't have this all figured-out as to why the rabbits are so hard to catch there? anyway, thanks for the video.

    • @miserablydeviant3678
      @miserablydeviant3678 8 лет назад +1

      The holes are close together and offer a large area for the rabbits to escape from. The ferrets help to block off pathways underground and drive them up, making it easier on the dogs rather than chasing and digging for nothing.

    • @martinadejaquiz2482
      @martinadejaquiz2482 8 лет назад +1

    • @miserablydeviant3678
      @miserablydeviant3678 8 лет назад +1

      I live in Utah and it's the same here as it is in the UK, so multiple dogs are needed and nets need to be placed over holes so there at least a chance of getting them. But we have jack rabbits mainly, not plain rabbits. They are much bigger and meaner, so smaller dogs like these just don't cut it, nor do ferrets. I use my hunting poodle since he's so big for his breed, he gets them in one go but is still an amazing Retriever with a soft mouth, love the versatility of the breed.

      Tipsylou You should think about what you're saying. Nature gave rabbits powerful hind legs, fast speed, radar-like ears, burrowing ability, super reflexes, and superior reproductive abilities. Nature didn't give humans sharp claws, super fast speed, we can't fly, we don't have extreme hearing or scent... nature gave us a brain. Giving us our brains, meaning allowing us to "cheat" around not having naturally gifted abilities, is what gives us our apex predator status. If you think this is "cheating", then blame nature. Or wait, maybe thank nature, because without our brains allowing us to cheat, none of us would be alive.

      Rowe And look at all the destruction in nature that's occurred because of our brains? Your mentality doesn't make much sense. Nature has also given us the ability to make and enjoy heroin- but should we? It's also allowing us to kill entire species and entire rainforests- but should we?
      Sympathy and generosity are also functions created by our brains. Maybe you should tap into those more.

      Literally has nothing to do with the context of hunting. Of course we are capable of destruction. The same way rabbits are capable of destroying crops. The same way certain drugs originate from naturally existing plants. But none of that has anything to do with the fact that we humans were given superior brains in order to subsist and survive. Doing drugs has nothing to do with survival. Neither does destroying the environment. Hunting, on the other hand, keeps us alive and gives us valuable resources. Hunters are people who respect nature. Look at the way the people in this video works together in harmony with dogs and ferrets toward a common goal. It's beautiful. Generosity (meaning, being generous) has nothing to do with anything we're talking about. Neither is being sympathetic.
      You feel bad that the cute bunnies are being killed. That's a legitimate and genuine feeling. I don't think you're a bad person for feeling that way. But that's the way the world works. Things die. You and I will both be dead at some point, and neither of us will be given a chance to escape that fate. Those bunnies exist for the purpose of being eaten and used by animals higher in the food chain. And for that, we are extremely thankful.

      It can happen - but I've never seen it. Dogs learn not to go near ferrets. / Charlie

      Do you need to train the ferrets? or do they instinctively go after the rabbits. Also with the exception of the ones you had to dig up, is it difficult to get them to come back after you release them in the field? Thanks.

      Essentially, although like the one in the video, they will also kill the rabbit inside the warren, feed from it, and go to sleep. Some may pick up a habit of just killing them.

      +TakeAShowerStinky if rabbits aren't controlled they would eat all are crops. they are also a large problem in Australia too. back in 2010 my family and i lived on a farm and we were surviving on what we had by growing and hunting are own food we were very poor at the time Anyway in the end we had to move to the closest town to find jobs to earn money for food because the rabbits and foxes were eating are crops and live stock.
      Female rabbits can have two whoms that can hold up to 8 babies in each and both whoms can carry at the same time aswell as give birth at the same time so all together you could have 16 new rabbits then they would have babies and it would keep going. Females can get pregnant 12 times a year if under the right conditions.
      I too like rabbits as
      pets they are cute but i qas raised to understand that no matter how cute or how murderous it is if an animal is not in the list of endagard species and it is becoming a pest then you do what you must to controll it. Its just a part of life and as long as you dont waste the animal after it should be too bad.
      I wasnt trying to start anything i was only explaining why people do things like this sometimes.
