How exactly is it merciless? The rabbits get a quick death! If it was a fox the rabbit would likely be eaten alive and as for the meat it depends how many you have to feed. All children should be taught how to do this kind of thing.

I wonder if we could adapt it to control the Prairie Dog colonies in the Great Plains? Like the rabbit warrens in your video, the Prairie Dogs create colonies strewn with holes that are deadly for livestock. The little buggers are fast! I wonder how small lurchers would fare hunting them?

There is nothing else like the chase. I grew up with greyhounds. Hunted hares and rabbits. I'd never shoot a hare, unless I was starving. They are too noble an animal to shoot. They are the most magnificent animal and deserve to leave the dog behind, which they do most of the time. Alas blanket forestry has decimated out hare population, never mind what are killed on the roads. I remember a TV programs once about hunt saboteurs going to disrupt a coursing meeting. The only hare killed that day was run over by a saboteurs wagon. There aren't many videos of hare hunting on here, but there is one very old one, filmed in Spain and that hare had to be the best in the world. It left those dogs standing.

I love this video I am looking forward to purchasing a lurcher puppy but I don’t know what the best breed Cross would be I want one that can handle cold-weather hunts well and does not shed I was actually considering a standard poodle what is your opinion on the best cross for these types of characteristics I would be using it to hunt rabbit in to recover wounded deer from archery hunting and as a hiking companion

I'd love to know the answer to this too! I was going to go for a deerhound cross but was warned by the breeder they need a big house and I don't have that same as you want hunting rabbits and hiking companion
