Rat terrier true purpose & why it was bred; for keeping barns rat free during colonial days when horses were mode of transportation. They were nicknamed “ horses best friend” & slept in the barn w/ horses.
This makes a lot of sense seems like they should let the dogs stay in there with the horses and sheep or whatever at least a couple of em. Would keep it rat free forever

Do the dogs require any special training or are they natural born serial killers? 3. Do the rats cause any health issues for the livestock or are they just pests? 4. Do you worry about the dogs contracting any diseases from the rats? 5. Would the dogs eat the rats if you let them? 6. Can I follow you guys around and yell, “DIE you filthy vermin!!!” over and over while laughing maniacally just for fun? Love your show!
Some of those rats were quite big, hay bales are always a good place to find them. I used to love doing this with my dogs, these Plummer terriers are absolutely brilliant little dogs for ratting.

- How are the dogs prepared for a ratting day? - Are they fed and watered as normal in the preceding days? - Are they taken out for works at the crack of dawn to replicate the time they would start work on a farm? - And after a rating day are they washed or given any antibiotics to avoid picking up or passing on to humans things like Weil’s disease? Would be really interesting to find out a bit more about these splendid working dogs.

Rats are the only animal that David Attenborough admitted to not liking. The Plummers are amazingly fast and flexible; strong, with lightning reflexes. Probably the ultimate ratter!
Some terriers are only used for ratting, Plummer terriers were specifically bred to kill rats and cos of they're size probably a bit quicker than some kinds of terriers so they likely are one of the best breeds at killing rats.
Such beautiful dogs, makes me miss my old girl I had years ago. Also, credit to whoever is filming. There's so much action all over the place and it was all captured without making me dizzy! If you've got problems with mice or rats, get some Jacks!

Это порода собак - ягдтерьер. Норная собака; крысы, лисы, хомяки - это их профиль работы.

No different from JRT or Fells, the real test for a terrier is in the ground.
