    Lovely video. I was actually looking at pictures of antique silver to give me better ideas for giving the polymer clay piece I'm working on to give the most realistic look possible. This video isn't what I was searching for but it was definitely an interesting watch. Thanks for sharing!😊❤️

    I have 2 Antique Sheffield Silver Covered Vegetable Dishes … given to me by mum as a wedding present 40 years ago. Dish has 4 silver stamps in base. TW … a stamp like a Neptune symbol… a stamp like a triangular beehive … And underneath the numbers 2273. Any help identifying them, age and value would be wonderful. I’m in Australia 🙏🙏👍👍

    Great video for complete novice like myself. What about making a series of RUclips shorts on these kinds of topics?

      The only info I retained from the video, even though it was very interesting, was the first bit, tapping on it, I'm into all kInds of things, I have rugs, figurines, crystals, cards, very random and unless you specialise in one thing... valuable info can fly over. In summary, tap test = great, thanks so much 🙏 👍 😊

      Silvo is my go to. Either the wadding or the liquid. If something is really tarnished I use one of those ‘bath’ cleaners first, great to get the think off and into all the nooks and crannies, but it never brings the lustre up. Use Silvo after. Let it dry and then buff off with an old towel. One to take the thick off and another to Polish. Lasts for months

      @@MrStevenMoore I haven't tried Silvo, but I've been using Herman's, a product made in Rhode Island. Totally odorless and non-toxic. It comes in a jar and looks like a face cream. Works well with absolutely no scratching of the silver. My wife has allergies and sensitivities, which is why I bought the Herman's over other brands. We have an online reselling business on the side, so we needed something to clean the silver plate we buy for resale.

    Thank you for all the excellent information. I have a pair of candelabra that I’m pretty certain are Sheffield plate - there is a letter E incised under one of the arms… does that mean anything to you? They are quite grand and can be used as a single, double or triple branch …

    I found, what I believe to be a gravy boat tray and it has a crown and says international silver 675. It is rather tarnished but looks good for the wear. Fortunately paid $5 for it. Is it a solid piece?

    Hello, i just buyed a few silver plated items myself. They all have wear to them. You can see the copper comming true there. They all have markings. I think one of them is eickhorn and one is primans stamped. Do you have a source of finding producers. Do you have any tips for me to restore or keep it this way. I am new to this but i found out these types of plating dates back to the early 1900 to even before that era. Thanks in advance for your answer

    I have these EPNS A1 90 stamped knife type things, tried that tapping them against one another but they all ring pretty high pitch even when i tap something like stainless steel.
    Says on the handle made in sheffield England.
    Are these just plated? I don't want to run a buffing compound over them and possibly damage it if they're just plated

    Anchor Rogers silverware: if the mark included XII, does that mean triple-plate? I have a silverware set with wooden box from 1846. Concluded that from mark: (anchor) Rogers (anchor) XII. One piece has (anchor) Rogers AA.

    very interesting video. How do you identify silver if the marks have been more or less been polished away

    • @MrStevenMoore
      @MrStevenMoore  4 месяца назад

      It may be possible to recognise the hallmarks from the shape, but it depends of how rubbed they are.

    I just watched your video. I have a Sheffield 4 seasons box. I cannot find any information on it nor the value. Bought it several years back at a "reputable" auction. Let me say it was not as reputable as we thought. Are you familiar with this piece? Also, how would I clean this?

    Hello, I found a silver tray at a sale and it is stamped Germany on the back and has a crest in the center of the tray. It is huge and quite heavy. I have done the magnet test and the ice cube test. Both indicate it is silver. I haven't found any other markings but I don't have a magnifies glass. Any thoughts. Thanks for your help.
