With seafood, it's a bit different. Really bad seafood can immediately make someone sick and potentially kill someone. Professional chefs will be incredibly strict with their handling of meats, and that's for reasons like this on kitchen nightmares. Where some got sick almost immediately after eating bad lobster.

True and we often treat Salmonella from chicken as if it's the truly dangerous foodborne illness, more common sure but a shellfish has so many things that can impact a person negatively.

6:55 for people who don’t know. The owners/ general manager usually email in about their restaurants needing help. And no Gordon doesn’t need to plant a dead mouse, these restaurants are usually failing for a reason and those reasons are good enough entertainment themselves. He is there to help and sadly over 50% of places he helps go back to the bad habits in 5 years time and end up closing
I remember that episode where some of the staff said he planted the mouse. The one cook speaking up saying the vermin were an issue, and to stop bullshitting Ramsay is a respectable guy. I feel like the older lady was the one who emailed Ramsay about their situation. I think her desserts were the only high point of his visit. She cared and it was incredibly upsetting to see her as broken down as she was 😢.
Definitely gotta react to the Jamaican Mama episode. It's one of my favorites! Gordon straight up cleans a whole plate of food and loved every bite! And the lady was so overjoyed that she took a picture of him with the empty plate! Such a great episode 👏
2nd this. I would also include the compilation vid of Gordon Ramsey compliment some dishes that are done well that he eat it and compliment to the chef who did it.
23:32 This episode named "Amy's Baking Company", is the best episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Because of the crazy owners and the one time in the whole series, where Gordon walks out before helping
Given I work in a restaurant I can honestly say stiffing your servers like that? bull shite to the nth degree boys! like servers make below minimum wage in the states as is, so you taking their tips which they literally relied on is scum playbook stuff ya'll. Hope Gordon saw those servers doing good work and gave them an offer honestly
If I'm correct, the husband threatened someone with a knife on recording with his wife backing him up and they left the area before police were involved
When I see the state of some of the walk-in coolers and freezers, I am baffled. I worked for a chain fast food restaurant for nearly 8 years. We cleaned, dated, and flipped our products daily. The pumps for the hot fudge and caramel were a weekly clean DEEP clean (as in take completely apart to clean kind of clean). All of the lids were cleaned nightly before being put back on. All the spoons were cleaned nightly to be used the next day. Plus the ice cream machines (two of them) got deep cleaned on alternative nights. You'd have to completely empty and take it apart and clean it that night and the morning person would put it back together. Definitely probably the cleanest fast food place in town I'll say that much.
Idk if people trust Walmart more or less than their local restaurants but when I worked in their deli every time we opened a new meat or cheese we printed out a date label to know when to toss it, we were constantly turning over the hot case items, etc. You'd never see some shit with mold on it.
We would have days dedicated to making sure inventory was cycled and EVERYTHING was wiped down. It’s not the same day as actually taking inventory because it takes a lot of
I knew this already but here's information After eating the poison, the pest will try to find water before they die. Thus, the pest will more likely die outside rather inside a house or building. In the case of this mouse it's by the front door trying to escape when it died
As someone who has worked in a restaurant, i hated doing the extra cleaning, but im glad we did it because of this show. We labelled everything with names and dates and everything was stored properly.
13:13 From an Aussie, that pie is NOT EVEN CLOSE to an actual Aussie meat pie. That pastry was RAW. The fillings are simple: MEAT AND GRAVY! That's it, the fact that the restaurant fucked it up so badly is honestly both hilarious and infuriating at the same time, because a $2 frozen meat pie from Woolies would outclass that by a country mile.
My dad is a retired appliance repair man and he would sometimes fix stuff for restaurants. He told me if there is one I like, don't ever go into the kitchen. It'll turn you off from wanting to eat there.
19:30 food poisoning depends on the illness that sets in, the severity of it, and the immune system of the person getting sick. It is not unreasonable to assume that them sitting there and getting sick within an hour.
19:20 if its seafood especially lobster the food poisoning can be very quick to set in, something like off lobster can put even the healthiest person in hospital
24:22 "if you you think that you come to our restaurant, that we gonna yell at you and scream at you and throw you outside. and that is not who we are" we know you lying when Gordon Ramsay just come there and you immediately curse at him and tell everyone to leave. and the funny part is when you say "we make good foods" until you realize no one would go to your restaurant because of too much jealousy and greed
I love this show! I worked in a kitchen for 5 years and the state of some of these kitchens are horrendous and they didn't plant that mouse nor did his crew because they have been found before
I had a flip phone in 2017 in middle school but I remember that was one cool thing ab the phone, when ur mad at someone n about to hang up, u can slam the phone shut😂
The point of filling up the restaurant is that Gordon wants to see how good they work in a major stressful environment. He watches how the managers react to costumers complaints, and if the cooks keep the same standard of food coming out.
The one time I had food poisoning was from dinner, and it hit me about 12 hours later. I woke up at the crack of dawn and raced to the bathroom while my bowels were emergency evacuating in both directions.
Yeah some food poisoning can happen later depending on what it is you ate. Same thing happened to me, I ate something and some hours later 😂 I also had to go to the bathroom and go to war in the toilet.
I think the food poisoning thing is more along the lines of how quickly your body reacts to something wrong. Like some people's immune system takes a minute to react to a foreign thing in your body. Some people don't realize they are sick until a week when the symptoms actually happen.
It hits everyone differently. I got sick from eating Wendy's twice from two different locations in Portland. Haven't ate is since and the food poisoning happened a few min after eating it .
The thing to keep in mind is he did episodes of Kitchen Nightmares in the UK and here in the US throughout the 90s and early 2000s. He recently restarted the show just last year before the upcoming super bowl (correct me if I'm wrong or not).
5:15 the fact that they have exterminator means that there’s gonna be dead mice. They should’ve been cleaning the restaurant after the appointment they had. Ps we call exterminator at my grandma‘s apartment because her tenants brought cockroaches and we had to clean up their corpses afterwards. I don’t even think it was planted. Mice trying to escape died near the doors and windows.
I never really watched Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares until my 1st job. Basically, I worked at this high-end department store called House of Fraser & in the staff break room was a big TV with like 3-4 couches and unlimited channels to watch from too. 99% of the time I came in for work & had my 1 hour lunch break, it'd be either Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmare or Hone Under the Hammer. They also invite a bunch of people to fill up the restaurant, so they're aware beforehand there's filming going on, and it looks better on TV. My godmother was invited for a dinner service of the Portuguese version of Kitchen Nightmares. Everyone in the restaurant was. There were no walk-in customers
I highly doubt Gordon Ramsay is going to risk his professional career, and risk committing a crime with producers and a film crew over his shoulder by bringing a dead mouse into a restaurant and claiming it's theirs. There are way easier ways to make these places look awful. And most of them need no help with that.
There was one episode where he went to a Bakery of sorts. The food, he said, was fantastic. However, it wasn't the food the people were complaining about, rather it was the people in charge of the restaurant. I believe the owners, who are a couple, argued so badly that Gordon himself left on his behalf. Edit: They show a clip from the episode. Amy's Bakery it is called.
Everywhere Gordon goes just HAPPENS to be messed up. Dead lobsters, a pigeon, a dead rat by the front door. Animals know when they are dying. He's not going to crawl to the front door to pass away, he would hide. Marcel is right, its a TV show. So you're telling me that Gordon just happens across these places one after the other? How many restaurants must he have to go to each week to find one like this to air???
I fucking love this show and you guys, but I’m so glad you ended it when you did lmao. I was literally starting to feel sick myself and had to keep looking away 🤣
Id love to see Gordon Ramsey come do a kitchen nightmares episode at the place i work... i dont know if itd be quite as bad, but i know for damn sure it wouldnt be good either😂
When Lobsters die they release enzymes that rapidly cause the meat to break down and spoil. This is the reason why most people prefer to cook lobster while they are still alive. I personally do culinary work
With seafood, it's a bit different. Really bad seafood can immediately make someone sick and potentially kill someone. Professional chefs will be incredibly strict with their handling of meats, and that's for reasons like this on kitchen nightmares. Where some got sick almost immediately after eating bad lobster.
