That plaza is an absolutely lovely urban space. Still, I'd love to get the Greens and Blues back together and have a hell-for-leather no holds barred chariot race around the space as it is. No training wheels, no pauses.

I've visited Istanbul 3 times and being a history nut, I find this city to be the most interesting place I've ever visited. It's got it all. Greeks, Romans, Ottoman and on and on. On top of that, the architecture, the food, the people, and cost were top notch, too. I have a picture that I took on one of my trips that was taken of the domed spot in the first photo that is shown in this post. My son, daughter in law, and granddaughter are standing in front of it.

What a magnificent structure and core city attraction it was. Even seeing the few remnants is a spiritual journey. The obelisk at the front is remarkably intact. I feel a connection with ancestors with these awesome historical references. I can imagine being there in a massive crowd of 100,000 people, the electricity. Nostalgia tells me how grand it would be to see it all again.

Even now? Istanbul is leaving the Ataturk legacy and turning more conservative. About 10 years ago, there was video footage of a group of American sailors who were being verbally attacked by Turkish citizens. The American ship was docked and they were out sightseeing. It was startling to see. The current President of Turkey doesn't seem to want to let go of power.
