EXACTLY!! And I also think what a lot of people forget to mention is that during an encore there is NO opportunity to warm up vocals, practise, etc - you’re just thrown into it and expected to have perfect vocals! Very unrealistic
AND confidence too, even though it may seem “easier” since an idol is only standing, there is more pressure to sound even more perfect, when the studio versions are auto tuned.

I think you mistaken stability with supported singing. The best trait that the members have in terms of their live vocals is that all of the members are stable and somewhat stable in their live singing. None of the members is horrible either and tone wise, their voices are pleasant sounding. However, they strain a lot in live performances and Sieun as the main vocalist cannot even handle some high notes which could've been much better executed if she's a better singer. The catch here would be StayC is a group that performs live in a lot of their live performances so we are able to properly evaluate the skills of all of the members.
They've great stamina but they can barely support, their technique is either bad or underdeveloped + those highnotes y'all saying are strained

I agree, as a singer who's trained for years, their notes are often strained live and are not supported. I understand that they're dancing, but straining is more a worry for their vocal health than anything. If they keep doing so, they won't have a career for long. I'm not saying stayc is bad, but they do lack healthy vocal technique that is needed in order to keep performing live in the future.

The frustrating thing is that StayC is probably one of the best vocal groups in Gen 4 and they're catching Flack for actually singing and not for being auto-tuned or smoothed when they sing live. They're really on most of the time, so it's sad that Kpop fans are so out of touch with what actual singing sounds like especially when they have to do such intense dancing at the same time and are kept massively underweight.

I agree with IVE and Lesserafim. I think Liz, Gaeul and mostly Rei and Yujin are quite stable but can definitely improve a lot. Leeso and Wonyoung are getting a lot of vocal parts without being able to sing them live at all. It's a big no for me even though their songs are good.
Lesserafim has stable Yunjin but the rest has room to improve.
For StayC only 2 of the members can support but they sing live and are confident in their vocals. All of them have very distinctive voices and it's nice to listen to them. So I don't think they deserve to be here.
Even the two Stayc members,Sieun (or was it Sumin idk I forgot) and Isa,have SHALLOW support.

The le sserafim one I can't agree with completely, chaewon is definitely very stable and demonstrates a good grasp on pop singing. Yunjin we don't need to discuss why she's good. and the rest of the group has still yet enough time to prove to sing live without choreo. Even with choreo, I don't think it's possible sing fearless in that low of a register with choreography. The fact that they were even able to do it with a sudden hiatus of a member is pretty impressive during the fearless promos
Rei skipped her high note in IVE encore cause what she’s supposed to sing “ireum” means name, so she said their name “dive” I also think she’s sung that note in other lives. The StayC part is just messed up. They have great vocals, especially compared to other groups here.

le sserafim has yunjin and chaewon in the group- that’s enough for them to be a good vocal group bc the rest of the members can at least hold a note. kazuha has improved a lot recently too. chaewon made One mistake on an encore and now suddenly everyone’s a vocal coach. she has a lovely voice y’all need to not make such harsh judgement off of ONE clip like ?
agree, for le sserafim, skilled vocal members are chaewon and yunjin, the one has potential to join the duo is kazuha (she's amazing, just join for about 4 months but already trusted as main rapper and singing tricky vocal part).

Actually yunjin is too good to be in kpop generally. She has the vocals of going international like ariana grande...people should definitely see her predebut videos. I'm not even their fan nor listens to their song but she's too talented vocally and highly hope kpop doesn't ruin it (remember kpop is all about these group kinda things...talented singers in korea doesn't come under kpop that's just korean singers that's it)....cause 4th gen are mostly focused on dancing and performance but vocal, rap? Nope. So talented singers like yunjin, lily, winter, ningning (I want SM to stop obsessing over their "yeahhhhh" high notes)..should be looked after.

However for Le Sserafim they have an excuse, Fearless is really deep and low pitched (if that makes sense lol) and its hard to sing and be stable that low, especially bc its not really in their vocal range. And its also encore and they were all focused on putting stickers on eachothers face 😭😂

I agree!
Stayc is incredibly talented and singing live and so stable is an incredible feat. But in terms of vocal technique, they are one of the weaker groups. They lack a lot of breath support and can get strainy at the top note. For example in the I Am cover, they have powerful and strong voices but they lack technique to allow their voices to properly blend. They need to engage their core more and aswell as learn to sing high notes with less nasality, straining of the vocal cords, and maintaining good pitch. That is to say though that LSRFM are kinda the opposite to Stayc. While Stayc has weaker techniques, their vocal types fit their concept and their songs much better. LSRFM while weak in some technical aspects such as stability, it's not to a fault of their own as management gives them songs that are way too low for them as sopranos. LSRFM are honestly the result of mismanagement and their potential is getting wasted while Stayc probably somehow have better resources to improve. So yeah, it's not really slander if there are true aspects to it. All of the members that are included here in this video, are honestly not even bad singers by no means, just simply weaker in comparison to others.

Low notes aren't their thing so it's hard to sing for them. High notes are actually much easier than low notes cuz it's hard to maintain a stable low note.

honestly the best LIVE vocals of 4th gen are itzy and nmixx. jyp’s mics are always on. itzy can be weak sometimes but they never try to dodge a note plus their dances can be intense. nmixx on the other hand are just monsters, like they do not go out of breath just insane
Itzy has the best dance line in 4th gen (chaeryeong,yeji,ryujin) while nmixx has the best vocal line in 4th gen (lily,haewon,sullyoon) just queen things 👑 and yeah JYPE GG's always sing live just like what jyp and rain did when they danced switch to me with heavy choreo while holding mics setting an example for their dongsaengs ☠️

Nmixx and aespa have the best live vocals. Now don't come at me saying aespa doesn't sing live. aespa has sung live many times in 2022. All the others singing live doesn't mean they are great vocalists. Having a strong choreo doesn't excuse their vocals being average. They go for strong choreos for a reason, so that their fans can say 'they perform hard. So it's fine'. Encores will always show who sings well. But funnily, for fans, encore are for fun. 😂

I actually love IVE and StayC's live vocals! Also, I remember Le Sserafim singing live during some stages, and they aren't bad. Everyone makes mistakes, probably during that Encore they were too tired or one made a mistake and made the others do wrong as well

As a singer I need to say, that fearless is really low key song and you must be able to control your breathing well and not succumb to pressure. It's different from higher key songs, where you don't really need to be gentle about the pressure on your chest, cuz you will somehow sing it, if your not a very beginner. You can't get breathy and you really need to concentrate. I think that the stage was more fun than professional and that they could sing it much better. But they still have so much to improve. I still don't really understand why did they give them such a low key song, when they probably know they don't know how to sing lower notes? Something more higher would be surely better for them. They need a lot of training so they will be able to sing it live and keep up with dance too. It can be hard even for professional vocalist, so I don't know why did they choose this, but whatever
With IVE, I kinda understand Rei. When you don't really feel like doing it, you'll just skip the note rather than embarrassing yourself with voice cracks. I think she would not have such a problem with it, but still needs to practice. In that part, she was going from full voice to falsetto, which can cause voice crack etc. If you can't control your voice well and you're not sure in more risky parts of the song, you'll obviously skip it. The transition is a little harder and it takes training to do it smoothly.
It's not like the singers are bad or something, I just think these days are either vocalists that didn't have enough training and they got a song that is not suitable for them or a really underrated ones like Lily from NMIXX. You should not really blame them for this, cuz it's not really their fault. They didn't give them enough time to train and it turns out like this, obviously. Give them time and they'll surely improve. It's just sad that in 4th generation you'll hardly find some good vocalists. It's true that it is more about visuals. I would prefer a good music instead of that as a musician. Hope it will turn out good in the end!🙌🏻🙌🏻

Let's be honest the best Vocal groups is NMIXX.... it is not even a question. They have a whole group of girls who have a supportive range. They are easily the most talented 4th generation group. But these girls all work really hard. Heavy schedules with insane hours of practice. Not making excuses for them but they deserve respect for the work they put in. I am however a Stan of talent that is why I always push people to really pay attention to my girls NMIXX..
Nmixx and Aespa have one of the best group vocals as a whole, just not the main vocals. But I think that only four of the members of Nmixx are vocalists and the others are more rapper orientated while Aespa is really great, vocal-wise as a whole.

Again every single member of NMIXX has supportive range. The only girl group where every member has supportive range aside from Mamamoo. You have basically 4 main vocalist with 2 being the best in the 4th gen...along with 3 lead vocalist. This is probably the biggest problem with kpop becoming globalized. It’s more about profits and gaining attention, I personally think every idol is way above average considering, they have good proportions, have amazing skincare due to spending hundreds of not thousands of dollars each year, and overall just look good.
However to garner more attention you need very good looking people, I mean most kpop groups imo have become more visual and dance oriented, due to visuals overall, people toxically like looking at good looking people and people also like looking at cool choreography that showcases their idols good looks. As most people aren’t musically gifted they don’t care about the sound as long as it sounds decent and catchy. Like why even let your idols become better vocalist if you never let them sing live and all they need to be able to do is sing well in the studio and perform absurd choreo that you definitely cannot dance and sing well at the same time. It’s unfortunate tho, I’ve been listening to kpop since 2010, and many of the very vocally gifted groups have disbanded or rarely comeback (Exo) or their going through military training (pentagon) or just don’t comeback with that great of songs. Like as I’ve grown older I’m more inclined to listen to more ballad-like songs where you can feel the emotion in the songs, so having your groups that actually sing rarely comeback has been pretty sad since I can only listen to their old songs from a couple years ago.
Of course however their are some groups that have good singers in the 4th gen and actually perform live, like Nmixx or StayC, also with StayC they often have voice cracks during their performances but I think that makes me like them even more, they do pop songs and sing while dancing but that don’t care that they’ve might’ve had a voice crack and perform on, like that’s a real artist. Dancing and looking good will only do harm towards the trajectory of kpop.

Without a doubt, gen 4 is the worst in terms of vocals. The bad singing has been praised way too much just because they are beautiful and dance well. But, they are singers. Or. Here’s a controversial take. Petition for idols to actually be able to SING before ever debuting 🤡 At this point kpop is just one big dance performance. Might as well just watch professional dancers - they have far better quality too.
Even though IVE is considered a vocally weak group I think they are still able to give their songs justice thanks to the producers giving them songs that are within their range and can still be delivered, I should give my kudos to the producers for challenging Wonyoung and Yujin’s vocals though since Wonyoung’s lower voice has been showcased to us and Yujin is proving herself as a good lead vocalist material. (Also regarding the live performances, for their more recent festivals I can actually hear them sing for the most part, they’re very much overworked so performances where they are struggling with live singing is very much expected. Starship give the kids a rest ffs)
I guess my only real issue is that their producer (Ryan Jhun lol) is not really utilizing Liz’s vocals, most main vocalists are given the parts that are difficult to pull off and Liz does not get any of that at all (maybe except for her high note in Royal but that’s really it), she was treated like a sub vocalist in After Like and I would’ve really liked to hear her more in the song, maybe by the time IVE members start creating their own songs we’ll be able to hear all of them in their own style and color.
