Three youngsters conspireing like this, and not one of them divirging from the prepared story, that is psychopat level. As a movie that, and the boys smiling towards each other afterwards, makes this especially chilling. But in real life I think the police would have gotten to the truth. When people come with well prepared stories, the police chip and chip over and over on every little detail of what has been said and done before the incident happened. It is much more difficult to answer questions about something that is made up, than something you have actual recollections of. Detailed questions about where they were standing when the boy "fell," whether they saw the actual fall, heard the splash or thump when he landed, or if they just noticed he was no longer there, also likely would have been challenging for them. Especially if where they said they where was a spot they couldn't have seen or heard what happened from. So anyone fearing this could happen in real life, not much need to worry about that. But for an interesting crime story with a chilling end: great story.
