This is great and very informative. I own corsets, girdles, and "modern" shape wear. I prefer the aesthetic of the 1950s. Yet, out of all of my shape wear I do prefer my corsets. They're more comfortable for my body type, offer the most "give" for my bloated days, have no elastic bands or non slip bands to cling to anything uncomfortably, and need the least amount of cleaning to keep them clean and fresh so they hold up much longer and need replacement less often. And because most often unless I'm ill I'll be wearing some type of shape wear they give me the look that I want. I don't use the bullet bras as I much prefer the softer bust look that was found in (I believe but obviously could be wrong) in the early 50s. Thank you for this video!
I have an actual Girdle from 1926. It comes up right under the bust and ends around the hips. It has fan lacing and garter straps for the stockings. It's made from a thick knited type fabric. It's really interesting. Thanks for your channel and all the work you do.. 😊

I've recently discovered your channel, and really appreciate your style. I always remember my mother saying, " Nothing could jiggle!", when talking about ladies' girdles and undergarments of the 40's and 50's. That's stuck with me. I have a pet peeve about modern bras rendering the majority of women, no matter how slim, lumpy. It's like a purposeful design flaw to make every woman insecure about her body size. I wish so much that "silhouettes" were popular again. I understand body positivity, but feel like it rings false. Being able to achieve a fashionable silhouette through foundation garments, despite body size, is preferable to me.
Uh, yeah...Spanx. You couldn't pay me, to wear something like that on a daily basis. I just find tight, elastic garments singularly uncomfortable. Something like this girdle, that fits just right and keeps the tummy flat, without being overly restrictive, might be a good choice for me, though. I think, I might try that pattern for myself!
Off-topic, the Victorian corset used as an example in the video is stunning❤. Did you make it? Is there a pattern available for it? Really enjoyed the video. Very informative!😊
@@papillonpress just put it on 😅 the only measurement smaller than me is the waist and that's only by an inch so easy enough to just such in your tummy till you hook it closed
This turned out beautiful! I love all of the backstory, I personally have never felt dainty enough for 1930's fashion and prefer a mid 1950's housewife silhouette but I do love looking at anything and everything 30's and 40's

I 100% agree. Spanx is the single worst invention closely followed by pantyhose 🤣

I did, it's from the book corsets and crinolines, the late 1860s/early 1870s one.
