The lyrics to “On Battleship Hill” are compelling and evocative poetry. The narrative is relatively brief, but I feel that those few lines convey a powerful and persuasive anti-war message. And the presentation by a woman leads me to the notion held by many that, in terms of waging war (and so many harmful human pursuits), if women governed the world, things would be different. I can’t help but think that if it were mothers in charge of global security, the countless young men and women borne of them would not be shipped off to battle, a decision typically taken by old white men addicted to power.
