    Don't worry about the haters, bro. I'm a musician for >30 years and what he did here (and on Mr. Brightside, check that out too) is IMPRESSIVE. I watched so many drummers learning so many songs with the whole band, it takes time. To do it after one hearing and make it sound borderline studio recording session, it blows my mind. Nice reaction! :)

    Dirk is a HIGHLY skilled musician. And he’s such a chill, cool guy too. I’m not a Megadeth fan but when they hired Dirk, their band became something out of this world!

    Dude, every band should have a drummer like him. Just pick up an idea, make it work, and now we have time to speak about it, change stuff around, relisten... etc.
    He made something that could almost be recorded and sent. After one listen. That is super impressive.

    This Drumeo series is AWESOME. Such a great concept and a great rabbit hole to dive into.

  • @happyninja42
    @happyninja42 3 месяца назад +7

    One of the cooler things about this series, is how it shows the skill of the drummer to actually shift to the different style of music. That one mark of skill, is being able to make sure your style doesn't overwhelm whatever you are playing for. So he's doing a pop/rock song here, so he makes it NOT sound like Megadeth, because that wouldn't make sense. The most recent Nandi Bushell episode of Drumeo, where she does a run of a Dio song, I think is a good indication of how you can do a song...not badly (she's a great drummer), but do a song in a way that doesn't fit. She's going super hard, super fast, trying to fill EVERY second with drum notes, but then when she listens to the actual track she's like "...I think I did too much. I think I overwhelmed the rest of the song, like at the guitar solo and stuff." And I agree with her. One, props to her for being able to genuinely criticize her own work in a fair and constructive way. What she played was GOOD, but it wasn't really fitting for the track as a whole. And being able to figure that out, and adjust to different music, IS HARD. So that you don't do things like overwhelm the rest of the musicians. Which is why I think Dirk's so talented, because he tries (and succeeds I think) to adjust his flow and pace to make it actually benefit the song as a whole. It's not The Dirk Drum Solo Extravaganza!" It's just the drums that sound good for the track itself.

    I could watch Dirk play all day… amazing drummer and an even more amazing human being!! You should check out his first video with Drumeo (he plays Mr Brightside by The Killers). Both times he made the songs better(just my humble opinion).
    But you want to hear an amazing drummer that no one’s ever heard of? Gavin Harrison. Watching him is like watching Michelangelo paint. Just look at him playing “Sound of Muzak” which is actually scary lyrically because it predicted the destruction of independent music by major labels who engineer what they want you to listen to.

    I love Drumeo so much! Dirk is such a great drummer. The chart he made might look intimidating, but really he's just counting bars so he knows where he is in the song, when the song transitions between parts, where the accents are, when the rhythms shift, etc. I don't disagree that it's impressive AF to be able to just jot down the structure in such a simple way and then immediately nail the performance. Thanks for the video! Subbing!

    You are indeed correct, sir.... this most certainly *IS* dope. :)
    Dirk is an *excellent* drummer. Megadave doesn't hire just anyone into his band!! LOL Megadeth chops aside tho, Dirk is capable of all sorts of playing, has a great attitude towards growing his capabilities, & seems like a typically Belgian laid-back easy-to-get-along-with dude.
    If you enjoyed this one, you'd probably enjoy the Drumeo vid where Mike Portnoy played a Nickleback song after one (drumless) listen. ;)

    i'm not a drummer but i'm musucian from a long time ago! i will not said it's impressive or not there is points on the 2 sides! when you "know your craft" you know when something is needed and drum like bass ( that i had played) are all about structure you can call them the spinal cord of the song so the "not so impressive" part in this one is simple he is a drummer from a long time so he know his basis so it's easyer for him to get out with something that "mix" with the song what is impressive on the other hand is FIRST he do that after one listen, second he "shift" a little in playstyle from his metal background to this punk rock style (that too is a song he had never heard) but you cat see from time to time he use metal druming type technic in this punk rock song so it's certainely more impressive from not musician point of view and a little impressive from NON drumer point of view ( like me) but less from trained drumers! so both are understandable and even myself can be " inpressed" from musicians i played the instrument ( like me with les claypool ( primus bass player) but i can see structure that none bassist can't ( well les claypool is a little a bad exemple because he is the mag sciencist of Bass lol)!

    As a former musician i can say it's fun to play along to everything whether it's your main thing or not. Sometimes we're so used to hanging around with people who can pick up on song from 1 listen so we forget the non musicians perspective and how impressive it might seem from the outside looking in. I'm certainly guilty of this, i wondered so long that why do people find it so damn impressive when it's just basic understanding of harmony, rhythm and very regular pop structures but then again, not everyone has time to analyze music everyday and play around with it to the point where you pick up on these things automatically.
