    US is full of spare parts. Go find some. With 500€+2000€ for the softtop you’re good to go.

    I would find someone who specializes in these kinds of cars, someone who does soft tops and well, find out a way to fix the glove box, its gonna be a better job and a LOT cheaper IMO.

      I’m with you on that, I have a few friends who know the ins and outs of these cars so definitely not as bad as what the dealer wants

    Really sucks how cheap it is to cause incredible damages, what a repair bill!

      I legit saw it and nearly fainted while talking to the service manager about it

    I feel awful for you bro. Time to become a self taught BMW technician forget the dealership.

      Yeah bro eBay, some balls and $500 would fix the whole car😂. Ive a little z3 myself. I couldn’t afford to drive it if I wasn’t good with instructions or youtube lol

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад +1

      You both make good points. The longer I have the car, the more and more comfortable I am to working on it. I’m no master technician but I can at least see an engine bay and not be completely terrified of using a tool. I’ve got a long ways to go on working on this car and maybe when I get something else to daily, I’ll be more hands on since it wouldn’t be my only car then

    I don’t think they actually even expect someone to get that work done from them

    thieves love convertibles because they're easy to break into without setting off an alarm. main reason why i will won't own a convertible anytime soon

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      That’s true. I don’t think I’ll ever own another convertible (or at least soft top convertible) until I have my own garage

    You can take the money from the insurance and keep the car

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      Thought about it but it would probably increase the insurance premiums. Wouldn’t be worth it especially combining the Prius crash and my points

    Same thing happened to my z3 in nz , broke my locks and cut my roof liner and then failed to even steal the car

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      It’s crazy how people can feel like they should do something like this. In some cases, like this, causing a lot in damages to steal almost nothing. It astounds me what goes through people’s heads to do this

    Do you bave full / "comprehensive" car insurance? Also you should have gotten a police report before moving (and touching) the vehicle.
    Cool car, If you can't get covered by car insurance I would get the top fixed by a BMW expert (not a dealer), see what parts that expert can fimd at salvage yards and only get what ecnomicallg makes sense repaired. Car insurance may total out your car and issue a salvage title if the repairs are higher than the car is worth BTW.

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      Looking back at it, you’re 100% right on that. I think I just saw the damage and just freaked out right before calling the police. I do have full coverage on the car but the thing is that they’d probably (more likely than not) total out the car and the issue is that if we buy it back with a salvage title, it’d have to go through a lot of rigorous inspection that it currently doesn’t have to from what I’ve heard. We used to have a salvage van and that’s what I remember from that fiasco

    • @angelomandato9439
      @angelomandato9439 Месяц назад +1

      Right, may not make sense to report to insurance plus your car Insurance from the company you work with will go up with your next car, or if you keep this car you may not get comp coverage with it being a salvaged title. Bummer.

  • @theusefulchannel
    @theusefulchannel Месяц назад +2

    That's why these cars are so cheap to buy.

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      That’s true but they’re fairly simple to work on. Newer BMWs can’t say the same

    what are your plans for the car? sell it? get another? you could get an M roadster for that price!!!

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      I have plans for it but I’m with you on that. I love the C6 Corvette. If I ever sold my car, I’d probably get one of those. Ironically enough, 1 of my buddies lost his BMW and bought a C6

  • @finnedcape5845
    @finnedcape5845 Месяц назад +1

    Wait, doesn't insurance cover these expenses in the states?

    • @Phoenixette
      @Phoenixette  Месяц назад

      They would but the issue is that the bill to fix it from a shop is more than what insurance values the car as. That’s at least how I understand it, I might be wrong. They would total out the car and give me what they value the car at. This was the case with our old Prius but they gave less than what we could sell the car for

      @finnedcape5845 Месяц назад +1

      @@Phoenixette I have had a 116i in a similar situation, where I got the agreed upon value of hte car, and bought it back for a 10th of the price, worked on it and got it registered again. Might be an avenue worth exploring that helps with getting some money back to go through with that extensive list of repairs. What a bummer! Good luck mate
