Tim! Jinjer is sometimes known to cause glitches in the matrix....no worries mate.
This song really hits hard live. Last year when I saw them this wad their second song of the set (Perennial led off) and it was smoking.
FYI, Jinjer just announced they are done recording their new album. Post-production/mastering is next. Likely sometime in the Fall we will have a new Jinjer album to listen too.
Cheers and have a good summer.

"This song was composed by Vlad" is all the info you need to know to understand why it sounds like this and why it was a clear step away from their previous material. 😉

Need to get you into some Infected Rain. Melodic medal out of Moldova.
Recommend 'The Earth Mantra', live from Devil's Dozen.
Labelmates with Jinjer, and vocalist Lena Scissorhands is pals with Tatiana.

Vlad's first composition for the band. 💪Sparked some hate from some publications for being too progressive etc.
Which pissed Tatiana off. She wrote the lyrics to Judgment & Punishment as a rebuttal to the haters. 🤘

OMG, I adore this song! Thanks for reacting to it! (No worries about the technical issue.)
Lyrically, Tatiana takes on the role of Mother Nature lamenting the fact that she has created this voracious, "bloodthirsty ape who walks upright", so yes, there's definitely some anger in it. Musically, I consider this song to be one of their pre-eminent "heavy jazz" songs. The 1st section especially gives me avant-garde jazz vibes because it has such a chaotic feel, & yet it is obviously very precisely planned & executed & not at all improvisational.
Over the course of a mere 3 1/2 minutes, this song moves absolutely seamlessly through 8 highly distinct movements (time references relative to OMV):
    1. The Beginning of All Beginnings (begins 0:07).
    2. Voracious Ape Who Walks Upright (begins 1:01).
    3. He Who Calls Himself Intelligent (begins 1:15).
    4. I Made a Mistake When I Created You (begins 1:33).
    5. Oh Here You Go (begins 1:43).
    6. Blast (begins 2:09).
    7. Just the Mention of Your Name (begins 2:22).
    8. Bloodthirsty Ape Who Walks Upright (begins 2:52).
    The transitions are amazingly smooth.
As in so many Jinjer songs, Tatiana exhibits an astonishing range of vocal styles, from deep, snarly growls to Gwen Stefani cutesy to soulful blues runs to shrieks of pure existential outrage. And honestly, how could anyone possibly be cooler than she is in this video? Limitless charisma!
I love the progression from movement 5 through the end, especially the bluesy vocals of movement 7 leading into the brutality of movement 8...what an ending!
This is one of those Jinjer songs where there's *a lot* going on, so it took a while for me to fully appreciate it. But those are the Jinjer songs that really reward patience & open-mindedness.
    "Ape"
    The beginning of all beginnings
    The era of nonexistence
When the Earth wasn't the Earth
When our planet was a fireball
It was raining heavily for a thousand years
And the fireball became an ocean
That cooking water, the primal soup
    A natural life-giving potion
This substance strove to find a way
To create another form of miracle
I brought a myriad atoms and turn them into your flesh
    Regenerated through destruction and chaos
While the young world was sculpting itself
No one could notice how you stroke a different pose
    Voracious ape who walks upright
Who deserts life to satisfy his appetite
Don't you remember you were the size of a bean?
Now what a shame to wear the name of a 'human being'
Oh, here you are! Vertically standing!
    He, who calls himself intelligent
But has not much for understanding
Oh, here you go, Mr. Know-it-all!
I made a mistake when I created you long time ago
    Oh, here you go
    Oh, here you go
    Oh, here you go
Just the mention of your name
Would make the whole world start to shake
Who gave you right to save your life
    By taking life from others?
    By taking life away!
    By taking life away!
    By taking life away!
    Bloodthirsty ape who walks upright
What shall I do to humble your appetite?
    Bloodthirsty ape who walks upright
What shall I do to humble your appetite?

Bro (or sis) thanks for breaking that down. I've seen you referring to eight distinct movements, but I haven't been able to discern them. This helps. I'm still in the stages of trying to grasp this song. You're absolutely right that it takes a while sometimes. I'll admit they're sometimes over my damn head. And I cut my teeth on Rush and Dream Theater! To me this is more like Classical death metal.
Some songs just grab you by the throat from the first instant you hear them. Like Home Back or Pisces. Quite a few Jinjer songs take a while for me to comprehend. Ape has always been one of those for me. Also Mediator and As I Boil Ice. I finally grasped Mediator last week after watching the individual playthrough videos, a couple bass covers, and a detailed reaction/analysis video--and thinking about the lyrics for a while--and it has become one of my favorites. I'm starting to get there with Ape. Boil Ice is taking me longer. Ok and I've gotta say Dead Hands Feel No Pain is not one of my favorites. But I'm starting to wrap my head around Vlad's classical compositional style. He's clearly a mad genius on the level of a Frank Zappa.
One thing that boggles me is how understanding the lyrics better often helps in understanding the musical arrangement. The music often seems to illustrate and emphasize the lyrical content--but she writes the lyrics AFTER the rest of the composition is done! How!

@@ericpeterson7512 Have you checked out Eugene's playthrough? He sits on a stool and plays along to a click and the drum track - it's awesome. The drum playthrough is good, but it's just the OMV with video supplied by Vlad's cameras only and Tati's vocal tracks removed. There's no guitar playthrough, but there are several guitar covers, none of which I've watched.

don't worry about the clipping , it happens (it's certainly not the worst i've seen). 🤷‍♂
my first guess would be to ask if you're using an ad-blocker -- YT has been playing dirty games with that lately (again). and the more ads get blocked in a session, the worse it gets. if this is the case, it helps when i close the browser completely and then start a new session (probably not a bad idea to do between each video when you're recording).
anyways, yes , great tune. between this and _Outlander_ , it's pretty clear that Tati just hate people 😂 (and i don't disagree 😂). even though Tati was super proud of this song, it seems to get lost from all but the most die-hard fans (Teacher Teacher and Perennial seem to soak up all the attention, i assume cuz they're easier on the ears , Dreadful Moments is very emotionally heavy , and the title track is just a very short acoustic instrumental of less than 2 minutes).
i think you'd LOVE the new interview they just did on the Audiotree channel for their "From Nothing" series -- they even perform 3 songs in studio: Vortex , Wallflower , and Dead Hands Feel No Pain (and the chapters are well marked, so it'd be easy to navigate for recording). i _believe_ you've reacted to the first 2 via the OMVs , but i doubt the 3rd one (i don't think it has an OMV) , so it may be worth your attention. the sound quality is _AMAZING_
    P.S.
    Woo-hoo!! YT didn't auto-delete my comment this time 🥳😂

And a great comment it is, thank you! I'm understanding more and more about this song from the always excellent comments of the Jinjer Army. Yep, it's definitely not a love song about humanity, that's for sure. I don't disagree either, although I (usually) take a more optimistic Gene Roddenberry attitude. Tati reminds me more of Ray Bradbury lyrically.
