@@jetclntn ~ Believe you missed my point. I meant as long as Nils Lofgren is playing with the E Street Band, he can't be on a solo tour (with Tommy Lofgren). That is how I found Nils ~ summer of '75, when he was touring clubs behind the Fat Man album. Have seen him several times on solo tours, and he's an incredible performer.
Bought this record in college when it was released. Then chased down the Grin albums. I subsequently gave the solo album to my nephew for his birthday, along with some records that he had requested.
I remember seeing Grin at either Falls Church Community Center or St. Andrews Episcopal in Arlington in the early 1970's. I knew that Nils was gonna be a great one way back then.
Nils was quite the gymnast in his youth, no? Check out the article about him in Crawdaddy magazine from 1976. It likely wasn't only from his stage activity. Bruce S. also was very active onstage, jumping up on the piano, playing 3 plus hours at a stretch.
Playing each other's guitars is not "posturing" (as per the pop up) -- it's called "showmanship." Nils was/is great and a completely distinctive guitarist -- no one else sounds like him.

As brothers Nils & Tommy had that connection & showmanship that made them & Grin one awesome force back in the early 70s & i grew up in Rockville MD and saw & met them many times over the great years they played all over our area.
Where in Rockville if i may ask ? I grew up in Congressional right behind the shopping center in Montrose Park. . Moved there in 61 to 1980 then Gaithersburg & now Frederick as well. Rockville sure isn't what it used to be.
I saw Grin in the spring of 1970 in a small rock club in downtown Baltimore called the Bluesette. Again, 4 years later at Western Maryland College where I was a senior and they played the spring concert. I was was helping to provide security for the event so I had the opportunity to meet and chat with the band briefly. Good times.
Been a fan since '77..then saw him in Newcastle City Hall in 1978 and again in Guildford just a few years ago. He's the man for songwriting and probably one of the best to ever pick up a guitar. But why oh why does his success always get measured by his involvement with Bruce Springsteins ESB? He's a stand alone genius that lives under the constant reference back to Springstein, almost as though BS is so brilliant that Nils is a nothing better than a minor disciple.
Totally agree ,the same goes for the constant references to Neil young as well .i know more about Springsteen and Neil young then I do nils and I’m not a fan of either of them.
I went to see him at Victoria, on the strength of one listening of "Back it up" back in 75' and Joan Amatrading was the support. (the one in London, nxt the station)
Saw Nils in 1976...I became a instant fanatic. One of the greatest guitarists.Has never been given his proppers! Hate him being over shadowed by Bruce in the E-Street band.
Overshadowed is not quite right. Nils is now a member of the world's greatest rock and roll band. What's wrong with that? What other band has three guitarists the like of Nils, Bruce, and Steve
The greatest and most sympathetic ever-the combination of empathy and musical brilliance and ability only perhaps equalled by the Great CS-Nils shine on!!
Summer of '70, Nils was looking for me to be his rythm guitarist. I already had a gigging band in Bethesda/DC. I was out of town going to rock concerts, so Nils chose Tommy instead. Darn. We would have partnered great because I'm a good vocalist and song writer, which weren't his strongest skills.
Remember watching Nils Lofgren at The Dome in Brighton 1976, supporting act was the great Tom Petty on his first UK tour. Been fans of both ever since.
I've been a lead guitarist for longer than Nils, but I saw him when he was starting out with his trio: Grin. They were on a linoleum floor playing for a few folks at U of MD cafeteria (late 1960's) . I was blown away. The guy is an electric guitar wizard. I almost joined his band, but that's another story.
I have been playing guitar with a flat pick for 40 years for fun on a Strat,, I think it is about time to try what Nils has mastered the art of the thumb pick

Legendary performance by Nils Lofgren and the crew in particular the guitar solos when they started playing each other’s guitar! 😎😎😎
As they are brothers they did that all the time . grew up in Rockville where Grin were the top band for many years back in the 70s.
Such a fab guitar player. Seen him a few times over the years, never disappoints, guitar playing at it’s best. !
