I also use full bed of gut at 54 in my Clash Pro. I have a history of arm and wrist injury, and this combo works great. I now play about 2x a week, and only have to restring twice a year, so gut is cost effective, and I don’t experience tension loss. I think it’s a great combo.
I play with a Clash 100L, have it strung with X-one Biphase at 55lb with anticipation it would drop to around 53-52lbs and be perfect. The control and power is great and the sound off of the racquet is beautiful, such a perfect pop. Love the responsive feel too
Purchased 2 Clash 100s in February of 2021. Strung one with Solinco Outlast at 53 and one with Solinco Confidential at 53. Play 3 to 4 times per week. Both rackets are still in the 52, 53 pound range and both have amazing comfort and control. I'm now a true believer in Solinco strings. Hope this is useful for someone.
No they aren’t they are likely in the low 40s. They lost a few pounds coming off the stringer and sitting in your bag without being hit after the first few days.
Some useful facts: Any racket with the wrong string/tension combination is an arm killer. Cheap synthetic gut has less stiffness and less tension loss than any poly, even the premium ones. Great players use premium strings, for 1 day, then they cut them the next day (even if the racket was unused), because of poly tension loss. You shouldn´t have a default tension, each type of string should have it´s own tension, in order you to have the same stiffness on your string bed.
I am thinking of buying the Clash 100 Pro V2 but I am not too sure. The racket is very head light and I'm afraid that I would swing too early possibly leading to tennis elbow. The frame material might be very soft (low stiffness) and is recycled - not sure of the long term durablility. The extremely low stiffness of the frame needs to be paired with a stiffer string like a poly for playability - I stay away from poly.
I like the Clash 98 with all poly @ 53 lbs but my buddy is having arm issues so he’s now using clash 98 (wanted the 100 but heard it didn’t play as well) because the clash is supposed to be arm friendly, and I blended it using poly on main and synthetic in cross. I’ll see how he does, may get rid of poly all together
I used Clash with multi. This was hard experience. I used Triax, Vanquish. At low tension you don’t get any control at all. It’s unpredictable. At night tension (55) it plays better, you finally can swing and it meets my expectations better. But as I play with Blade it’s another world. I like control, Clash doesn’t have it. And with Clash I constantly had arm problems. It’s flexible BUT it’s also way too light and headlight. It’s a recipe for arm problem. Now playing with blade I have zero arm issues.
For me head light is good for arm. Too light static weight is bad for my wrist as such rackets tend to be more head heavy. Total weight too high and I get shoulder pain even when head light. Clash pro (310g) is right for my arm. I agree control is not the best, you can't hit flat, always need to hit with lot of spin.

I play with Triax 1.33 . It’s super comfortable, quite spiny but not durable and quite expensive But I do believe it’s worth a try I love it It’s not lively so I string it at 22kg/21kg

Have to agree with you it is fairly spinny for a multi. Compared to other multis I didn't have to keep adjusting my string after every rally, but durability as you said was so-so and definitely on the pricey side. Using it as a hybrid might be worth a try one day
Tried Xone Biphase /Solinco Confidential because of arm issues based on your recommendation and it plays great . But the Poly "cuts" through the Multifill and after 6 weeks the Biphase breaks. Any recommendation of a Poly which is not that harsh on the multifill? Maybe a bit softer as the confidential is quite firm? Or a soft Multifill that lasts longer?
YTEX ProTour Blue. Great poly. Holds tension really well and it’s easy on the arm. Also has great control. Try it in 16L gauge. What racquet do you play with? That will determine what tension you should use. Let me know and I’ll suggest a tension if decide to try it.

Try a hybrid of Wilson Sensation in the mains (strings go in a racket not on it) around 56 pounds and Wilson revolve orange in the crosses around 53 pounds. This setup will not break the bank like natural gut/ luxilon

Years ago Bow Brand were the top string company in England and used to string at Wimbledon. I used to have an account with them for strings and grips but I think now they only sell natural gut for instraments.
Here's my spin on your spin! Clash 100 with 12g added. Strung with a poly my glofers elbow on double handed backhand played up... With head velocity mlt (I think) at 48 played well, but lasted 20 hours.. With alot of string movement, but no arm issues... Now I'm another multi at 46.....but sounds like I should be stringing higher... We'll see.

I string at 68lbs. The comfort and control was fantastic. I could swing fast and hit hard with all kinds of control. That was in the 90s. Now I play with Head Prestige Graphene Touch Tour, which is modified to 345grams. I now use all poly at 52 or 51lbs, depending on conditions.
I string my POG 107 @ 70 lbs with Prince syn gut original. Plenty of power even at that tension but with good control. Very nice ball pocketing. I don't get that much string movement probably because of the high tension. People who are not at least an ntrp of 4.5 have no business using poly as they won't see any advantage over synthetic gut or multifilaments. Also, even a poly string in a low flex racquet can still cause elbow and wrist issues. Poly strings are probably the biggest contributors to injuries in beginner players next to stiff racquets and bad technique.

You are correct. I use to play with a PS90 and I strung it 65 pounds with natural gut. Now I use the PS97 with natural gut in the mains at 62 and Wilson revolve in the crosses at 58 and it is so comfortable. I don't know why this guy is using poly strings strung so low. If you have to go below 50 pounds to use a poly then you should not be using a poly!

The best way is simply to wait. The next day the tension will be lower. The problem is poly has greater stiffness, so it should be strung at least 10% lower tension (I suggest at least 20% than your normal synthetic gut tension). Let´s say if you string your racket at 55 lbs (syn gut), with poly, start at least at 44 lbs (or lower). Even though it will lose tension over time. And, please don´t leave your racket inside a hot car!
I am confused about your tension recommendation for Babolat VS gut strings with the Wilson clash 100 v1.. In this video you recommend 53- 54 string tension however in one of your original reviews you stated 48 tops in order to take advantage of the racquet"s technology. I am a solid 3.5 player. I need to improve my forehand and need to get some top spin. My backhand is solid with slice and spin. However, If I play more than twice a week I develop tenderness in the elbow. I am currently playing with Prince O3 speed port red with Babolat gut at 58 tension. I just bought a Wilson 100 v1 and the Babolat gut Vs but my dilemma is the tension I should string this racquet to. Any concrete answer? 48? 53? 54? . Let me know
Take what he says with a grain of salt. Tension in 40s is reserved for stiff poly. Nat gut has enough elasticity that you can still string into 60s and have good response from this racquet
48 he was referring to poly. Gut you can string a bit higher, regardless of the racket. But I’ll not go above 55 for gut. I use X-One biPhase at 48 and it plays wonderfully. Once you try it you will not go back to poly.

I love your videos. I played back in the early 70's in high school and a little in college. I am now getting ready to retire and decided to take tennis back up to help stay in shape. I have purchased a number of rackets and just got a Clash 100 Pro. I put Kirschbaum Slam Smash Orange 16 co-poly in it and had it strung at 48 lbs. Now I am wondering if that was a mistake. I have a Pro Staff RF 97 V13 with Champions Choice in it and I really like it. I put the same strings in a Babolat Pure Drive 2021 and that has been great. After watching this video I am wondering if I should have put Champions Choice in the Clash? What would you suggest?
Yes, it will play great with poly, co poly or a synthetic or a multifiber. Yet, it is my experience as a stringer and a player, this non stiff frame does not work well with tightly strung strings. As a matter of fact, the luxilon VIBE soft touch poly is recommended for the Clash and is a perfect pairing for the Clash. And, it has the qualities of a poly but also has favorable qualities of synthetic gut string. I played with this LUX Vibe string in a Clash and liked everything about the experience at a 57 tension.

I use clash pro since it launched two years ago. I have arm issue and I’ve been using multi /poly hybrid for decades. However, clash doesn’t go well with hybrid of multi. I also go with the softest poly on the market. Volke cyclone tour and tour bite soft in 1.20 to 1.25 g tension at 53/51. Try it.

Why don't you ever see the Clash being used by Pro's or even at the college level? Is it considered a "gimmick" racket that is meant to help club level players?
It’s such a new racquet relatively speaking. Professional players usually pair bond with their racquet at a young age (early teens), and they will continue to use the same racquet for their entire career. It will take time for you to see the Clash in pro tournaments on TV. But, make no mistake, there are plenty of collegiate and even more top juniors using it now.

The Clash has somehow created to use with polyester string. And as this racket works wonderful at a low tension ... there is no need to think even about a multi. Tension drop … common is not an issue with the lastest generation of polyester string anymore. String it with half kilo tighter and it's solved. 90% of all the rackets out there are stiffer even with multis at a low tension 😉.

I have a coach. I’ve been playing with my son’s old, lightweight, big head racket with a tiny grip, well suited for a 13-yr old. Coach says I need a less powerful racket. So I’m trying several out. I found several I like but don’t want to make the mistake of getting something that will aggravate my old injuries. I’ve been good so far, but would rather avoid injury than try to recover. How does “get a coach, equipment is not the issue” help me in any way?
@@dcbmtmr great you have a coach! You’re right, it looks like you need you need a more suitable racket. Equipment is important and definitely affect the game a lot, but injures come from technic issues more then from equipment. Having proper technic player can have decent game quality and less probability of injures regardless of the racket. But if you look for less powerful racket I don’t know if Clash is good. It’s a powerful one, not like big head oversized ones, but definitely on a powerful side. And 100 is unstable, not sure about 98 though. Clash is flexible BUT it’s light, headlight racket which is not really good for arm on the other hand. I tried to use it with multi (Triax etc). I didn’t like it: unstable, too powerful, too much flex, no precision, unpredictable. I played with Clash several month and couldn’t adapt myself. But it’s only me. If you like it - go for it.

Try Pro's Pro Hexaspin. It's a comfortable poly with spin potential and good feel.

What is the best way to soften poly strings? Will leaving the racquet with poly strings in the hot car soften the strings? Thanks.

Luxillon smart is great in clash
If you have serious arm/wrist/etc problems just use natural gut/poly hybrids (or full gut). Multis are waaaaaay less comfortable than gut.
Multis are not WAY less comfortable than gut. Polys are waaaaay less comfortable than multis.

How do u get that pop noise? Is it the ball or the racket because whenever me and my friends play we can’t get that nice pop sound.
You need to strike the ball well. You dont strike it well enough

Suffering bad with TE so just bought a new clash98v1-strung it with 45lb sensation multi and the vibrations are (((crrazy)))😵with no power...feel like I've thrown €200 down the toilet!😭😭😭
Maybe try Tecnifibre NRG2 or X-One Biphase. I don't get any vibrations with those. It has helped keep my tennis elbow away.
I use clash pro since it launched two years ago. I have arm issue and I’ve been using multi /poly hybrid for decades. However, clash doesn’t go well with hybrid of multi. I also go with the softest poly on the market. Volke cyclone tour and tour bite soft in 1.20 to 1.25 g tension at 53/51. Try it.

I tried a soft touch new string by Luxilon called ALU Power VIBE and it was a Excellent hitting experience in the Clash.
Why don't you ever see the Clash being used by Pro's or even at the college level? Is it considered a "gimmick" racket that is meant to help club level players?
It’s such a new racquet relatively speaking. Professional players usually pair bond with their racquet at a young age (early teens), and they will continue to use the same racquet for their entire career. It will take time for you to see the Clash in pro tournaments on TV. But, make no mistake, there are plenty of collegiate and even more top juniors using it now.
That is a question nobody promoting the Clash will answer, I guess. And I´ve asked some coaches who endorse the Clash, and they didn´t answer me.
Nicole Gibbs tried it not sure if she still uses it.

That it works better for 4.5 or less doesn't mean it's necessarily a gimmick - false dichotomy.

The Clash has somehow created to use with polyester string. And as this racket works wonderful at a low tension ... there is no need to think even about a multi. Tension drop … common is not an issue with the lastest generation of polyester string anymore. String it with half kilo tighter and it's solved. 90% of all the rackets out there are stiffer even with multis at a low tension 😉.

I have a coach. I’ve been playing with my son’s old, lightweight, big head racket with a tiny grip, well suited for a 13-yr old. Coach says I need a less powerful racket. So I’m trying several out. I found several I like but don’t want to make the mistake of getting something that will aggravate my old injuries. I’ve been good so far, but would rather avoid injury than try to recover. How does “get a coach, equipment is not the issue” help me in any way?
@@dcbmtmr great you have a coach! You’re right, it looks like you need you need a more suitable racket. Equipment is important and definitely affect the game a lot, but injures come from technic issues more then from equipment. Having proper technic player can have decent game quality and less probability of injures regardless of the racket. But if you look for less powerful racket I don’t know if Clash is good. It’s a powerful one, not like big head oversized ones, but definitely on a powerful side. And 100 is unstable, not sure about 98 though. Clash is flexible BUT it’s light, headlight racket which is not really good for arm on the other hand. I tried to use it with multi (Triax etc). I didn’t like it: unstable, too powerful, too much flex, no precision, unpredictable. I played with Clash several month and couldn’t adapt myself. But it’s only me. If you like it - go for it.
Guy just started playing. Pit some cheap multi in and learn. Once a week . 🤣🤣🤣
