      I worked in 'organic agriculture' before and your description sums it up nicely. You end up with fish poop and aphids (pests) on your lettuce, flies and snails on your mushrooms and pay 3-5 times the price of regular, healthier supermarket products just because that hippie you trust uses inefficient methods and tools. Not because it's the better/healthier product. Just buy regular, non-organic stuff of good quality, don't get ripped off and use the money you just saved to build your family.

    • @chrisedwards3866
      @chrisedwards3866 16 дней назад +1

      They probably were not ever intended to be the "best" jeans, and it's not even possible to make some that are clearly the best. Instead, the plan was to make them a very specific way, and they probably had to grow the cotton themselves to ensure it was completely nature-controlled. And it sounds like the cotton was refined much less after harvesting, so they might have used a different process for that.
      The result is jeans that were made in a very specific and difficult way, which makes them inherently rare because it is so expensive to make them that way. Some people may want exactly that overly natural process, or that extreme exclusivity. People have spent far more money on far less.

  • @staceygram5555
    @staceygram5555 6 месяцев назад +122

    No, no that's not why they cost $10.000. That's because of marketing, hype, and gullible fools with more money than sense. There's no way those jeans cost more than $500 to make _at most_ - and that's probably being generous.

      1. The cost of making those jeans is _at most_ 1/20 of the price of them.
      2. False equivalency. There are of course diminishing returns on anything 'luxury', but you're still getting something extra for your money when buying a Ferrari vs a Skoda . Just because you make something hard, labor intensive, and expensive to make doesn't mean it's better or worth it. Traditionally made Katanas are more expensive than those made by modern methods, but they are objectively worse quality.

    • @JosephJoeseph
      @JosephJoeseph 6 месяцев назад +6

      @@staceygram5555 But with a pair like this, the way it's made IS the point. Of course it's not any better quality than other prestigeous denim makers. The reason it might be worth it to someone is that it's a very impressive artisanal achievement. Fine china doesn't hold your hot water with leaves in it any better than a christmas cup you got from grandma but you still might want it just because it is really nice. It's not just functional, it's an art piece. Does that make it worth 10K? Not to the common peasants such as you and I, but no denim would be worth 10K to us. If you're the type of gentleman to be able to spend 10K on a pair of jeans though, this is a very justifiable way to spend that money. It's a pair of jeans oozing with history and one artisan's undying commitment and love for denim. You buy it for that, not for how good it'll be at keeping your legs warm.

    Their are other Japanese jean companies that don't take it to this extreme. But they cost a lot due to high quaintly and the fact they dye the threads, make the cloth, and sew the cloths all in Japan, in the same location at Japan's labor cost. No sweat shops and no pollution dumped in water ways during the dye process. No shipping to three different country for every step for the cheapest labor. It's not like these pants made rough to emphasis how hand made they are.

    It’s a fun novelty and I like the principle behind how it was manufactured. But like bro jeans are already kinda uncomfortable sometimes and now ur telling me I’m gonna wear something with leftover thorns and abrasive material over my crotch/thighs? Where there’s gonna probably be the most movement out of anywhere else on my body? I’m good bro.

    $20 bucks to manufacture the $10,000 ones and probably $10 for the $400 one.

    They aren't selling you jeans, they're selling you an idea. If you're smart, you would just ignore them. If you're motivated, you would try to make them yourself and realize just how much work goes into just a single pair of jeans.
    For reference, the term "Spinster" comes from a time and culture where the women were required to grow enough plant or animal fiber that they could spin enough thread to weave enough fabric to make all of the linens, as a dowry, for the new household they would be in charge of when they got married.
    A "Spinster" was a woman who could not achieve this feat and was henceforth unmarried.
    So, enjoy your shite fashion while it is affordable.

    They dont even water them.
    The only thing they spend a bunch of money on is basically the land tax if there is such a thing in Japan and the labour cost.
