  • Scottish football has some MASSIVE clubs like Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs & Hearts. But what is football like in the tenth tier?
    The West of Scotland Football League Division 4 is as low as you can go in the Scottish football pyramid. In this video I saw BSC Glasgow take on Threave Rovers.

    If I can make a suggestion to go for lower football than this, in summer, try going to a game in the Forth & Endrick Football League. I'm a regular in that league every year. It's played in stunning surroundings in the Forth & Endrick region roughly between Stirling and Glasgow, north of all the main roads between those cities. It's a Welfare league playing a summer season. They have a rule that players have to live in or work in the town/village of the team they play for. It's a very low level but a very enjoyable league to go to.

    The next pitch along from the football is a shinty field. Get yourself along to a shinty game this summer and check out online it's contribution to Scottish football teams being the best in the world in the late 19th century. Renton, Vale of Leven, Dumbarton were all formed by shinty players, as were Nottingham Forest.
    They took their skills of passing and moving the ball between players and transferred it to the football pitch much to the chagrin of the dribbling players of the English game. Queen's Park adopted this style and they provided most of the players to the Scotland team of the time. A quick search of results between England and Scotland in the early days shows a heavy lean in favour of the Scots and shinty was the reason.

    Threave Rovers are a very interesting club. Left the East of Scotland League due to the cost of travel, relegated from the Lowland League, and then voluntarily 'relegated' from Tier 6 South of Scotland League to Tier 10 West of Scotland League Division 4, with a plan to get up to Tier 6 West of Scotland League Premier Division asap. They believe eventually they will benefit because WOSL is better overall standard. Also, I'm pretty sure they once beat Stenhousemuir in the Cup, maybe a dozen or so years ago.

Between them and the 2 other sports clubs at Peterson Park, they are trying to form the 'The Peterson Park Playing Fields Trust' to take ownership of the ground and become self sufficient with the upkeep of the place aswell as redevelop it. I like the ambition the club has and wish the ground to be maintained and developed.

    Just a question I've been meaning to ask for a while, but do you buy a programme from every match you go whilst visiting the club on a match day

    • @gordon1545
      @gordon1545 Год назад

      At this level of Scottish football it's very rare for clubs to produce a programme. There's only a handful of non-league clubs that sell them, other than for special occasions.

    My first team growing up played in the Spanish 6th and 7th level. Regional 1st and 2nd Division of Madrid's Federation. The field back then was dirt, no grass until years later. Actually artificial turf... The dugout were made of concrete but were also a night hangout for smokers and drinkers. The smell of pee and puke was always there. There was a metal railing around the pitch with metal plates with sponsors and stuff. Really dangerous. Good times! 😆 🤣 😂

    How is no one talking about how there were no linesmen? LOL, the players screaming at the ref, knowing he can't see. Great video.

    • @gordon1545
      @gordon1545 Год назад

      The bottom few tiers don't have linesmen and neither do some of the cups. It always cracks me up when a goalkeeper roars at a referee for an offside decision they made 80 yards down the pitch on a line that's perpendicular to their view!
